Chapter 5 — Thunderstorm

Victor's POV:

Wolves only find their mate once. My father found his late in life, after he had all five of us. He thought he'd never find her. Most wolves do at a young age. Our mates are always close to us; it was how the Goddess created us.

But on a business trip that he wasn't even expecting to go on, he saw her. She had a daughter, but that was okay with us. She was our father's true mate and the only one to make his wolf happy.

The day she moved in, she moved in with the last person I expected her to bring: my mate. Her daughter was my mate. I always thought that my mate wouldn't show up until I was much older, like my father.

But she did. When the car door opened and her smell hit me, I couldn't resist picking her up and smelling her. It was the smell of honey and roses—like heaven to my wolf.

I carried her to the room we had ready for her. It was close to mine. If I knew she would be mine, then I would have prepared a place for her with me.

I knew from my father that her mother was a half-breed only. Her father was human. That meant my mate had some wolf blood in her. Not enough to make her shift, but still enough of it in her to give her a mate.

She didn't know anything about wolves or mates, and I wouldn't scare her right away with everything. I wanted to take things slow, but my wolf was too possessive for my plan.

When I took her to her bedroom, I dressed her in my shirt, making her smell like me.

I left her bedroom and went to mine, where my brothers were waiting for me.

"So, our sister?" Adam, my twin, asked.

"She's my mate," I told them.

There was a chorus of congratulations and hugs. I was the first to find his mate between all five of us.

"So, what's the plan?" Kyle asked, impatient as always.

"Nothing. Treat her as your sister," I told them, warning them to be nice to her.

"Of course, she's our sister since she's my father's mate's daughter, but now, she's more than a stepsister. She's family," Alvin, our oldest and my beta, said.

Although he was older than me and Adam was my twin, I was still the strongest out of everyone. My father was the current alpha, and I was next in line.

"I can't believe I'm getting an older sister…as if you guys don't boss me around enough," Sammy, our youngest, said with a pout.

"What about you being a Daddy?" my twin Adam asked. He was right. I was a Daddy. They all knew it.

But none of us knew how the girl would feel about it. Would she hate me for it? Would she like it? Would she be scared by the idea of being my baby? Or would she enjoy it? All these thoughts were going through my mind.

"Don't worry, man. She was made for you," Alvin assured me.

The next morning, we officially met our new sister and my mate. Her name was Sophia. Even her name was beautiful.

The first few days were just spent getting to know each other. I tried to study her. She blushed easily, and she slipped with her words a few times and even hid behind me when there were too many eyes on her.

I also noticed a few habits she had while eating. She didn't like steak, but I also noticed she was never given a knife. Her food was usually cut for her, or she'd get something that required a smaller bite size.

On her first night with us, Sammy went to say goodnight to her. She was adorable enough that he didn't care if he got bossed around by her too.

She ended up giving hugs and kisses to everyone. As long as I got my hug and no one hugged her for too long, I was okay with it.

Tonight, she didn't seem to be herself. She was lost in her own ideas. When it was time for us to head to bed, she didn't give us the hugs and kisses we were getting used to. Instead, she went straight to her room.

There was a thunderstorm. It was very common for us. I just hoped the sound wouldn't wake her up. I went to bed thinking about her and why she was so sad tonight. We went to school together, and I had Kyle keep an eye on her. Nothing had happened, or he would've told me.

I closed my eyes and went to sleep. I heard thunder, then a muffled scream. Being a werewolf and an Alpha, I heard the voice loudly and clearly, even though it was muffled.

I left my bedroom and headed toward the source of the voice: Sophia's room.

I knocked on the door lightly before going in. I saw her lights were on, and she had the blanket up to her chin. Her eyes were shut tight.

Another thunderclap sounded, and she screamed again. She was scared of the thunder.

I walked toward her slowly so as not to scare her. She must've heard me come in. On closer inspection, I saw tears going down her face.

"Sophia," I whispered, my heart breaking at the sight. She screamed again, scared.

"Shh…shh. It's just me. Just me, Victor," I told her, and she stopped screaming. Only the tears were going down now.

"I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to check on you," I told her.

"I'm fine," she said in a broken voice.

I was about to argue when another thunder sounded, and she screamed again. I couldn't leave her alone like this.

"Move, Sophia," I told her, and she looked at me like I just grew a second head. "Come on. Move," I said in my Daddy voice, and she obeyed. I got in bed next to her and pulled her close to me, her head nestled on my chest. "Now that I'm here, you can sleep, baby girl," I said, kissing the top of her head.

She snuggled closer. I noticed she had her teddy too, but she was trying to hide him.

I had almost forgotten about him. I had found it in her bag when she first arrived and placed it with her in bed. I wasn't sure if she slept with him or if he was just a childhood token.

I pulled the teddy from under the covers and gave it to her so she could hug him properly. She looked at me with wide eyes, and I just smiled. Now, I knew for sure she was going to be my little princess.
