Chapter 4 — School
Sophia's POV:
After we, well, Victor got my schedule, we walked outside and back to the parking lot. Adam had just parked his jeep and gotten out along with Kyle and Sam.
Sammy said he'd go to see his friends, wishing me luck on my first day. My schedule was handed to Kyle, who just laughed before handing it to me.
"What's funny?" I asked curiously.
"We have the same schedule, little sis," Kyle said with evil glee.
"Get her in trouble, and I'm kicking your ass," Victor warned.
"Me? Neverrrr!" Kyle replied, faking innocence and making me giggle.
"Don't look at me. I'll hold you down while he kicks your ass," Adam said, giving me a wink.
"Get her to class," Victor ordered Kyle, handing him my backpack before turning toward me.
"I'll see you at lunch, baby girl." He kissed the top of my head before leaving with Adam.
Kyle took my hand and walked us to the first class. He seriously knew everyone since he said hello to way too many people, I felt like hiding behind his back several times. I couldn't be a Little in school; that would be really embarrassing.
We finally made it to our class. Kyle, of course, went to sit with his friends. They were all big guys with buff muscles—not as much as my new brother, but still intimidating.
"I can sit alone?" The statement came out more like a question to Kyle.
He was about to say no. I saw it in his eyes, but I gave him my best puppy dog eyes, and he sighed and handed me my backpack. I didn't sit in the front. I preferred a seat closer to the window, away from most of the class.
A girl with black hair and black eyes sat next to me. Even her skin was the complete opposite of mine. We looked like yin and yang, which made me giggle.
I placed both hands over my mouth, hiding my giggles, but it was too late. She looked at me, probably hearing my giggles. Now, she'd hate me or think I was making fun of her.
"Love your hair," she said in a nice voice. For a second, I thought she must be joking or being mean, so I stayed quiet.
"I'm Niti. You must be new," she said again with a gentle smile. Maybe she wasn't making fun of me.
"I'm Sophia," I replied, blushing. Why was I blushing? Damn my shyness.
"Nice meeting you, Soph," she said, and I relaxed. Okay, she was nice. I'd give her that.
The class began, and I had to pay attention. Some people eyed me weirdly, but I did my best to ignore them.
After the bell rang, I stood up, grabbed my backpack, and got ready to leave for the next class.
"I got history next. What about you?" Niti asked.
"Me too," I said shyly, and she smiled at me again.
Kyle came toward us. He greeted Niti. Of course, he knew her too. He tried to take my bag, but I kept it.
"We can go to class alone, Kyle," I said.
"Can't do. Boss's orderers were to stay with you," he said before he placed a hand around me and the other around Niti.
Almost half of the school eyed us while we walked. I felt like crying now.
Kyle, on the other hand, kept nodding and smiling at everyone. Who was his boss? I needed to file a complaint.
We walked into our next class, and we took a seat far away from my new brother. He acted the same until it was time for lunch, and I had enough. I told my new friend that we needed to get away from him.
"Sure, it would be fun," she said with a small laugh.
When the bell rang, we took off without him while he was busy with his friends.
We ran through the hallways, laughing. Niti was right: this was fun. I didn't have many friends in LA, and the one I had definitely didn't run around the hallways, avoiding my new stepbrother.
I was too busy laughing and trying to catch my breath when I hit a wall. Ouch. Should have watched where I was going.
"You okay, Sophia?" the wall asked.
I looked up, and it wasn't a wall. It was my other stepbrother. Now, I wasn't sure if this was Victor or Adam. I still had a hard time knowing who was who between them.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied. taking his offered hand to help me up.
"Victor," Niti said, bowing her head a little. So it was Victor who I had stumbled into. He nodded back at her before turning to me.
"What's got you running like this, baby girl?" he asked, and the nickname made me wanna go to my Little self so badly, but I resisted.
"Uh…we're hiding from Kyle," I told him truthfully.
"And can I know why?" Victor asked, raising an eyebrow.
I just shrugged. I couldn't take being walked by Kyle for another second.
"Come on. Let's get you some lunch," Victor said, offering me a hand.
We walked to the cafeteria, and all eyes were on us again. I couldn't help but hide behind Victor this time. I didn't like all this attention.
"It's okay, baby girl." Again with the same nickname. It made me feel small.
"Why don't you go sit down, and I'll get you lunch?" he asked, and I nodded yes. Anything to get away from being the center of attention.
He pointed me toward a table where Adam was sitting along with a red-looking Kyle.
I dragged Niti along with me before taking a seat.
"That wasn't nice, little sister," Kyle scolded me the second I sat down.
"Sowwyyy…" I said, slipping before covering my mouth and looking down, embarrassed.
"Hey, it's okay. Just don't do it again," Kyle said, offering me a smile.
I smiled back too. Victor got both me and Niti lunch, along with his own. I made a deal with Kyle that he'd just hold my hand from now on, and I wouldn't run away again, although it was fun.
