Chapter 34 — Rescue Mission
Victor's POV:
I'd had enough. We were getting my baby back before I lost it and went rogue. Before I killed my own siblings, my own pack. I couldn't let that happen. I was calling everyone and anyone who was in alliance with us, especially the Alpha next door. She was one the meanest alphas ever to live. She was known for torturing rogues. She agreed to help us and to torture some of her rogues and ask about my Luna.
But who knew whether she would do it, that it would work, that, finally, she would get some information on where my baby was? Four months later, we finally had a lead. The rogue who took her was dead. He died, but no one knew where she was. That message alone had me ripping my clothes, yelling, screaming, howling my anger to the moon Goddess. I was swearing at her and the skies.
"Calm down, Victor! Please, Alpha!" Alvin said, trying to calm me down, but I couldn't. I was so mad right now, I couldn't even read the rest of the Alpha's message.
"Calm down, jerk! They found her," Adam said. He might be the only one who dared to call me a jerk right now. He was right. I was acting like one right now.
I calmed down, just enough to ask him where she was. He said the message said she might be hidden between three different places. In the last month, all the rogues who had taken her died. Rogues didn't live long to start with. They either killed each other or were killed. Some even committed suicide to simply get over the pain of having no mate.
We got ready—my pack and all the allies I could find—and went toward the first place on the list. The Alpha who found this information even sent me some of her own men. She was a damn good fighter. God help us if she ever went rogue. She'd kill everyone without a second glance.
The first place she told us about was a cave. It was a simple cave hidden in the mountains. Except for a few rogues that I was more than happy to kill, there was no one else there. We moved to the next place. It was an abandoned house, empty, without a trace of my baby. The final place happened to be a warehouse.
"Empty! Empty again!" I yelled, angry. Now, I couldn't find her. I'd never find her now. Even with all the help from our allies and searching for her for over four months, we still couldn't find her.
"Why. Would. You. Do. This. To. Me!?" I yelled at the Goddess. Why wouldn't she give me what was mine again? Why would she torture me so badly? "Let me go rogue…let me die…" I said, openly sobbing and not caring about anything anymore. Kill me and be over with it.
"Victor…" my brother said.
"I can't anymore." I sobbed, heartbroken, letting out one last strangled howl that was filled with my own tears. I heard a howl back. One that was so feminine, one that was tired—but one that I knew, even though I had never heard it before. It was my baby's voice.
I took off toward that sound. This wasn't the only warehouse around here—the rogue who had given the Alpha the information was wrong about the number. She was not in this warehouse; she was in another one! I'm coming for you, Little one, I called through our dead bond. She must be alive. She must survive for me.
When I found Sophia, she was in a warehouse, alone. She was locked inside a cage, her clothes the same ones she had been wearing the day she was taken. She was extremely thin now, her white hair now black with how dirty it was. She looked at me with a sad smile before fainting again. I ran toward her and broke the stupid cage, taking her into my arms. She was back in my arms and safe.
I tried to use our bond, but it still wasn't working I didn't understand what was wrong with our bond, but we'd fix it once we were back to safety. I checked her neck for any bite marks. She had few, which made me growl with anger. They dared to touch what was mine! It could all wait until we were back home, back to where I could make sure she was safe.
It was dark now. We'd been all over the place, searching for her. Few rogues could go such long distances, especially while taking a girl with them.
I took my baby home. It was a full day's drive. She simply slept until we made it home. She slept while the doctor checked on her, and she slept when I washed her, making sure her white hair was once again white.
"What's wrong with her, doctor?" I asked our pack doctor, my heart breaking when I saw that my baby angel was still sleeping.
"They tried to claim her. She refused their bite. That might have interfered with your bond. That happened months ago. There's nothing wrong with her physically. She'll wake up when she's ready," the doctor said, and I thanked him for his time, simply sitting next to her and waiting for my baby to be back where she belonged: in my arms.
