Chapter 32 — Attack
Sophia's POV:
The howls grew closer and got worse. I wasn't the only one scared now. Everyone was scared. Some took off running while others screamed to protect the Luna! I was the Luna!
It was then I saw some wolves walking toward us. Their eyes were pure red, and their teeth were sharp and showing out of their mouths. They looked mean and evil. These must be the rogues Daddy told me about. What had I gotten myself into?
They walked toward us in their ugly forms. They took deep breaths, looking around until their eyes landed on me. The first guy that walked toward me must be their boss or something. He came toward me, stood in front of me, and took a very deep breath. He looked around, but I had no idea who he was looking for.
Once he didn't find whoever he was looking for, he started laughing an evil laugh that sounded more like a dying hyena's. I tried to take a step back, but he growled at me, making me stop right there in my tracks.
"Don't touch our Luna." A guy jumped in front of me, trying to protect me. His act of heroism cost him his life; the rogue killed him right there in front of my own eyes. He bit him on the neck, crushing his windpipe. I had never seen someone die in front of me before. I hadn't been missing much. I wished I could forget that right away.
The rest of the people around here took a step away from me. This wasn't me playing with the others and holding. It wasn't me showing off dominance without even knowing. This was real, and this was dangerous.
The mean one walked around me in circles, licking his dirty lips, growling, and just sniffing me in general. It was then that we heard other growls, but these weren't scary. They were "we are saved" growls. First, I saw Alvin! Thank God! I was saved!
He had others with him now, and he ran toward me first. The meanie guy growled at Alvin. My brother growled back, showing off his teeth. Alvin wasn't mean-looking, but he was scary in his own way.
They stood nose to nose now, both growling at each other. I wanted to take off and run. I wanted to yell for my Daddy, but I was frozen in place from fear. They started to fight. Alvin was on top first, but then he got hit in the shoulder, and blood started to seep out.
He didn't stop yet. He went back for the offender's neck, but the rogue cheated, hitting him again on his injured shoulder until he fell on the ground in agony.
That wasn't the only fight going on here. Other rogues were fighting our wolves, and no one was looking at me. I was frozen in the middle, looking at Alvin and the leader.
I knew I did the wrong thing at that moment. I should've called Daddy then. I should have run away. I should've done something. But my fear left me frozen. I saw Alvin take another hit. There was more blood, and finally, he went stiff on the ground, scaring me.
I felt hot, fat tears going down my face. I wanted to call my mate now, but I couldn't. No matter how hard I tried to think about Daddy, I couldn't.
The rogue who had been hitting my brother pulled back. The rogues were winning the fight. He turned into his human form right in front of me.
He was dressed in rags, clothes that hardly covered anything. He wasn't even able to walk properly on two feet. I thought rogues stayed in their wolf form all the time, but I guessed wrong.
He walked toward me with pure menace. He slashed my shirt, leaving long claw marks on my body before tying both my hands behind my back with my own shirt.
I was trembling, scared, and crying. He looked me in the face, then slapped me hard. I fell to the ground, blacking out. I thought I knew fear before, but I'd never felt anything even close to this.
I didn't know much of what happened next—just that I was taken away from my pack, home, family, and my Daddy.
I hoped my Daddy could save me. I was sure of that at first. But three months later, they told me they had killed him. He was still an empty space in my head and heart.
If you're alive and out there, Daddy Victor, please forgive me.
