Chapter 90

"Alright, I'm a fool, I'm naive, and I'm just a plaything for you. That's why today you’ve repaid me with this betrayal. I’m about to get hanged as we speak, but remember, there will come a day when I will return for you. Even if it's not today, or in this life, maybe in another life, I will come back. Just wait, and when I do return, I will show you in the clearest way possible that water and oil do not mix.

I've lost my prestigious job as a judge because of your betrayal. Today, I’m seen as a joke in front of everyone because of you. Your mistake is costing me my life, and you’re just standing there in your suit with your mistresses, watching me. I don’t want to see you again in my life. I’m going to die, but remember this voice and my face. One day, they will return, and when I do, I will show you that when a gentlewoman decides to repay a debt of pain, even the devil steps aside to learn a lesson.

Get lost! I don’t want you in my life anymore, you devil. One day, I will kill you with my own hands, and if any woman comes into your life, she will not survive me. I will kill her and her entire family. Make sure you live alone without a woman as payment for what you did to me. If in another life I find you with another woman, I WILL KILL HER. Remember my voice well, MD. I loved you deeply, but I will return as a devil. Remember that, MD."

The voice on the phone that The Colonel had called from an unknown place brought back memories for the IGP.

He remembered those distant years when he was a young, handsome man. The echo of that voice kept repeating in his ears as he closed his eyes, and when he opened them, tears streamed down his face. It was rare to see the old man in such a state, even when he had suffered great loss, but today, in front of the camera, he was shedding tears. It made him think back to those years when there was a woman he loved more than he loved himself or his family.

She had invested her whole life in him, willing to do anything to make him happy. But her ultimate reward was ending up behind prison bars with a death sentence for a crime she didn’t commit. But the woman didn’t just cry; she told the man that he was the reason she got entangled in a case that had nothing to do with her.

Because of her love for him, she took on the case, but in the end, the man betrayed her, leaving her with no help other than facing execution. How did she survive?

“Sabrina, are you still alive?” the IGP asked in a stammering voice, filled with anxiety and sweat pouring down his face.

“I am still alive, and I might be living even better than before. I have a very good life; I get everything I need and I can say I am among very few successful women in the world,” the woman on the other side replied confidently.

“How is it that you weren’t executed, even though the media reported that you had been executed? And if you survived, where have you been all these years?” The IGP still felt as if he were in a dream and would soon wake up.

“Mmmmm, the person who said that every goat eats according to the length of its tether wasn’t foolish. In this life, everything that comes your way has a significant meaning. But you might be slow to understand why it was brought to you, and you might not even see its importance until the day you need it but can't get it anymore. Then you'll realize that you should have treasured it at any cost. You ask 'why,' while others ask 'when' they'll get it. I didn’t die that day; I’m still alive, which is why you hear my voice today. There's a lot more to my life story, but you made one very big mistake. I warned you the last time that you should never live with another woman. Worse, I discovered that you were in a relationship with that woman even before me. You came to me to achieve your goals while you already had your own plans. Now, I know you very well. I know your entire family, and I promise I will start with each one of them until they’re all gone. Then you will be the last to suffer greatly, just as I did.” The woman’s voice was cold and devoid of any hint of humour. Her heart was still fueled by vengeance.

"Sabrin..."

"Shhhhh, I didn’t pick up this call to talk about the past. I accepted your call to inform you that your request has been approved. Give us all the information you know, including naming the person and how to find them, then leave with your daughter. If I wanted to kill her, I would have already done so. But I chose to start with the important matters first, then I will begin dealing with your family one at a time." The person speaking on the other end was no longer the one who had once been subservient.

This was a different person altogether, focused on the job and not on old connections. The IGP was warned not to waste time on pleasantries when there was work to be done.

"That boy has been the director of national security for five years now. He assumed the position when he was still very young, not even twenty-five. He is a very intelligent young man with exceptional decision-making abilities, which is why he was given such a significant position in the country despite there being many others with potential. However, they couldn’t match his capabilities..." The IGP started but was interrupted.

"What exactly made such a young person get that position, and why was he kept so hidden, even to this day? What’s the issue?" The voice on the other end changed, now a deep male voice, filtered through the device.

"Only three people knew all the plans. I’ll explain briefly about two of them, and the third person is the one I promised to name, who is the one who shaped this boy. The first person was Shadrak, but the second was Markvelous Japhary. Shadrak, as you know, was the honourable president who was killed recently. Mark was Jason’s brother. Mark didn’t want this boy to be ordinary because of the terrifying history of his and Jason’s lives."

"There were three of them, not two as everyone believes. Mark was the firstborn, but Jason wasn’t born alone; he had an identical twin. Back then, their father was an undercover officer who loved to do his job with utmost professionalism. In the course of his work, he discovered some ugly truths about some government officials. He wanted to expose them and bring them to justice. When these people realized that this officer was getting close to uncovering their secrets, they decided to act quickly and killed him. But later, they found out that the officer had a family he had kept hidden. After a thorough investigation, they discovered he had hidden them on a farm, likely because he knew that a truth-seeker has many enemies and they might come after his family. So, he took precautions early on."

"When these people learned about the family, Mark was old enough to understand what was happening, so he took on the role of caretaker for his younger siblings. These people travelled to the farm

to find the family and succeeded in locating their whereabouts. When they arrived, only the officer’s wife was at home. Mark had taken one of his siblings for a walk in the wooded areas nearby to keep the child from crying. From a distance, he witnessed the convoy of cars arriving at their home, with armed men stepping out."

"'Run, run, run!' Those were the distant words he heard from his mother, followed by the sound of gunfire. Mark wanted to return, but he remembered that he had his younger sibling with him, and his mother's signal meant he had to run far from that place to ensure the child's safety, which he did. He disappeared into the woods and ran as far away as possible." The IGP took a deep breath before continuing to recount the history of that young man, who was indeed Jason.

"You said they were twins. What happened to the other one?" The same deep male voice asked firmly from the other end.

He cleared his throat, nervous about his daughter's fate being in their hands, leaving him no choice but to tell the truth.
