"Let me just say that I am very grateful to my parents for raising me with the best values and that is what made me achieve my dream of studying medicine which I dreamed of when I was very young, I wished to live that dream all the time. Where we live a little further away, there is a house that is much nicer than our house, in that house lived an old lady who used to sit outside the gate very often because there was a big tree and she liked to sit and rest while telling stories to a few children who were very familiar with her, including both of my younger siblings, they were very fond of her.
The lady got used to me because I often helped her with some tasks like going to the market or getting anything she needed, so she knew my family well. She became someone who gave me a lot of advice and cautioned me to be careful with this world, especially men who have no sympathy at all with a girl child, especially one who they know is completely helpless. After giving up on studying completely, one day she asked me a lot of questions about my education because she saw a little girl who had heavy responsibilities but I was supposed to be at school, then I told her about me along with the decisions that I had taken after realising that I had no other way to pay for my studies.
After my story, she asked me just one question that I think went to complete my dream
"Do you like studying?"
"Yes, I really want to be on the list of elite people in the country"
"What do you want to study and where?"
"At the moment I can't anymore, but I really want to study medicine"
"When do their lessons begin this semester?"
"They started the other day on Monday because that's the time when I was supposed to register but I don't have the money."
"Get ready tomorrow we will go together."
"Where?"
"Didn't you say you want to study?"
"Yes ma'am, but I don't have the money to do that" She knew my fear.
She smiled and took her phone out of her small purse and then put on her glasses, she was an old lady but surprisingly she had a very modern phone, she made a phone call.
"Joseph, tomorrow I'm coming with my daughter to the hospital. She's coming to begin her studies………it won't be long, I'll send you all the information, make sure you prepare everything…………money, I'll pay for the fees and other things……..I don't want to hear that this girl is being bothered, treat her like your little young sister and make sure you give her everything she wants while she's studying…… I don't want to hear that anything stupid has happened to her, you will regret it," she was talking on the phone and that left me speechless because I never thought that the lady had any authority over the way she used to live a very normal life. After hanging up she was the one who shocked me into the surprise that I was swallowed by and until then, for me, everything was like a dream that had come true.
"Hey, get ready, my granddaughter. Start the life of your dreams and make sure you don't do anything stupid when you go there. With the few days I have left, I can help you make your dreams come true. I think I will be very happy if that comes true before I die," she said while holding my head as if giving me a blessing. The whole time I was on my knees crying, I couldn't believe that I found such a great grace in my life, something that I didn't count on at all.
"Madam, is there any truth in what you are telling me?" I asked as I was very eager to make sure she wasn't kidding me. Because of the way I saw her, I didn't think she would be able to pay my tuition fees, for a year the fee was about a million.
"When I was a little girl like you, I lived a life that taught me a great lesson in my life. Men used me as they wanted because I had nothing because they decided to make me a resting place, so I decided to use them to be successful. I only chose men with money who were ready to do whatever they needed for me, not that I liked it but because the life I was living was full of contempt, mockery, bullying and humiliation so I decided to seek wealth in any way I could. You might think that I was all alone in the world but I had enough relatives who had the ability to help me, but they did not do that, they closed their doors on me and I decided to live as if I were on my own on earth"
"In my pursuit of wealth, I met a man who was filthy rich. That man loved me very much, he did everything for me and made me regret living the life I lived in the past and he was the one who became my husband. We were lucky to have two children a boy and a girl, I don't really like to remember my children, but they have all passed away with my husband. At the moment there are me and my three grandchildren where two are girls and one is a boy and they are all abroad studying there. I think after two years they will have graduated so they will come back to join me. When my husband died, he left me with a lot of wealth, which until now, as I speak with you, is more than enough, but I have prepared it for my grandchildren, that is why I educated them so that they would have a great ability to manage their wealth when I die.
"You are not my granddaughter, but when I see you, you are not very different from my grandchildren. The environment you have been through has hurt me a lot, that's why I really wanted to help you fulfil your dreams of becoming a great scholar. And if I am still alive when you finish your studies, then I will help you with your employment but pay attention to your studies and good behavior because your good behavior is what made me help you. You are a girl with a very special heart, you are ready to lose so that your family can have something, you have impressed me a lot. I think for now I will put you on the list of my grandchildren and one day when they come back to see me, they will recognize you as one of their sisters so that when I leave, you will be in safe hands because they will help you. I am tired, come inside and take some money that will help your parents when you go to college and when you come back, if you have time then you will be going to do that business of yours" she spoke and started leaving.
I remained there too stunned at first, I never believed that such a lady would be as rich as she was saying, I followed her inside very happily and that was the first day I got inside her house. It was very ordinary from the outside but inside, it was decorated with very expensive valuables, there was a question that I really wanted to get answers to at that time so I had to ask her
"Grandma, why did you choose to come to live in such a neighbourhood?" after that question, she smiled a lot while handing me an envelope with money.
