Chapter 20

Alexis:

I was very uncomfortable wearing a dress and heels. But, the restaurant had a very strict dress code. It was worth it though. My father had taken wife number three and I there. It was amazing.

It was sort of like a jazz restaurant. It was dimly lit, had circular tables with a little red candle in the middle, and a small stage in the front for little band that played there. It was so old school and raw.

Once we got to the restaurant, we grabbed a table in the middle and started looking over the menu. "You really do look amazing." Aubrey told me. "I like the way you normally dress but this completely wowed me..." She trailed off. "Can you not?" I joked, blushing. I covered my face with my hands. Did she seriously have me acting like a little girl?

Attempting to gain back my composure, I sat up straight and cleared my throat. "Have you decided what you want to order?" I asked, scanning over the menu.

"I'm thinking spaghetti and meatballs," she stated, nonchalantly. "What about you?" she questioned, looking over at me.

"Maybe the chicken and shrimp Alfredo," I replied.

While we waited for our food, Aubrey and I listened to the band. Who knew that the sound of jazz music and the dimly lit scenery could be so romantic. Were we old souls or what?

The band stopped playing a few minutes later as the waiters brought out everyone's foods. There was a short amount of silence before Aubrey cleared her throat spoke. "I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I think we should address the elephant in the room." She stated. "Okay, fine. I guess now is better than never." I thanked the waiter for bringing our food and turned to Aubrey to hear her out.

"Our parents are getting married. What are we going to do?" She looked up at me with worried eyes. I'd been thinking about our situation too. A lot. My father seemed very happy with Michelle, despite her antics to keep Aubrey and I apart. But I absolutely adored Aubrey. I loved her with everything in me. I'd never felt this way about a girl before. There was no way I could let her go. "Well, what's the worst that could happen? So what, we'd be stepsisters. We're not blood related. We can do this." I assured her.

Aubrey huffed. "As much as I'd like to go along with that, I just can't help but think that that is wrong. My mother loves Hank. That's the ultimate betrayal." She replied. I nodded. "I'm glad we had this talk. But, I'm not going to stop myself from being with you. Step sisters or not, I love you. And I don't think telling our parents is the best idea right now. We have a few months before the wedding. Let's just enjoy our relationship. Please?" I begged.

Aubrey smiled. "Okay, Alexis." She grinned before going back to eating her food.

We ate off each other's plates and enjoyed the soothing music that went along with our night. Nights like this is what I want with Aubrey. Dates, shopping trips, road trips, etc. Alone time with my girlfriend. Nothing more, nothing less.

Aubrey looked so beautiful tonight. "Hey," I said, trying to get her attention. Aubrey turned away from the stage and looked at me. "Yeah?" She answered. "Come closer." I mouthed, smirking. Aubrey blushed and slowly slid over to me. "What do you want?" She questioned, playfully with her eyebrows raised. "I just want a kiss." I stated. Aubrey folded her arms across her chest and giggled. "But earlier, you told me you didn't want me to ruin your lipstick."

I shrugged and lightly pulled Aubrey closer to me. Gently, I brought her face to mine and began kissing her passionately. Here I was, in a dress and heels kissing a girl. This certainly didn't feel awkward.

We were about to deepen the kiss when the sound of two throats clearing stopped us. "Aren't you that famous fitness instructors daughter? Hank is his name?" I looked up and it was our waitress. Accompanied by the manager. I knew him because he usually sent over a few bottles of their best wine to my father when we visited. "Yes. The name is Alexis. Is there something wrong?" I wondered. Their faces definitely showed a hint of concern.

"We're sorry but we can't allow this type of... activity in our restaurant. A few of the customers have sent in complaints regarding the both of your actions." He stated, firmly. "Wow. Was it the customers or was it you?" Aubrey exclaimed. I grabbed her hand and we both got up. "I can't believe this." I spat.

"You know our policy. It's a shame that this has to happen. I also have to ask that you do not return back to the restaurant. We can't allow that here. We do not wish to promote that type of lifestyle here." The manager said, escorting us out. "Wow. Fuck you, man." I yelled, throwing up my middle finger. The manager was taken aback for a moment. "I expected a little more respect from you. I guess I'll have to alert your father about your behavior." He chuckled.

The restaurant doors closed behind us.

"Alexis, he's going to tell Hank." Aubrey gasped. "I highly doubt that. My father would sue the hell out of this place." I assured her. "That's not the problem. What if my mother finds out?" Aubrey cried. I pulled her into a tight hug. "Oh hush, princess. Everything will be fine."

I hope.
