Chapter 12

Alexis:

After dinner, my father and Aubrey's mother headed upstairs to bed while I stayed behind to help Aubrey clean up. We cleaned off the dining room table in silence. Both of us felt a little weird after listening to my father boast about having Aubrey as a daughter. Yeah, I felt a little bad but I was secretly growing to love this girl.

An hour or two later, we had finished cleaning and went back up to our rooms. I didn't wanna burden Aubrey with my thoughts. So instead, I decided to call Jay.

"Man, what?" He gasped, after I had spilled the beans about me and Aubrey's shower session. "And then at dinner my dad was all like 'I'm so happy my daughter has someone like you in her life. I can't wait until your part of the family too.'" I mimicked my father. Jay burst out laughing. "That is so ironic. You eat her out and then your dads talking about her becoming his daughter as well. You've got a lot on your plate." Jay commented. "I know, I know. I feel like shit." I huffed.

Jay ended the call with me an hour or so later. The thought of Aubrey and I becoming siblings was weighing heavy on my heart. It's not like we were going to be blood related. But still. My father hadn't been this happy since his first wife and I wasn't so sure I wanted to jeopardize that.

After two hours of sitting in silence, I had finally made up my mind. I was going to pursue my feelings for Aubrey. My father was on woman number seven and I'm sure she wouldn't be the last one. The way I felt about Aubrey was so unreal. Whenever I was around her, my heart damn near blasted out of my chest. I was not going to pass up something that could potentially last for the rest of my life.

I decided to stop letting my mind run and just head to Aubrey's room. She always came to mine. I knocked twice and pushed the door open. Aubrey was laying on her stomach with earphones in. The music coming from her ears was very loud. I stood at the door for a moment trying to catch the song. It was Waterfalls by TLC.

Before walking over to her bed, I shot her a text telling her to turn around. Aubrey was a little on the crazy side so I knew not to catch her off guard. Her phone pinged and turned around, greeting me with a smile. "Hey," she greeted me, sitting up. Aubrey motioned for me to come join her on the bed. "You okay?" I questioned her. Aubrey nodded and placed her phone on the nightstand beside me.

"I never really come in your room." I pointed out, chuckling a little. "I know. I always end up in your seduction zone." She joked. I smacked my lips and shook my head in disbelief. "Really?" I frowned. Aubrey lifted the covers and pulled them over us. "Yes, really. Are you going to sleep here tonight?" She asked, yawning. "Do you want me to?" I replied, smirking. Aubrey rolled her eyes and sank lower so that her head was laying peacefully on the pillow. I did the same and wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her to me. A few minutes later, we drifted off to sleep.

Today was now Friday which meant I wouldn't have to wait to see Aubrey for the next two days.

I fluttered my eyes open and was met by Aubrey's mother staring down at me, with her arms folded. I cleared my throat and quickly let go of Aubrey before sitting up. "Don't you have your own room? With a bed." She said slowly with a bit of base in her voice. "Yes. I'll get there now." I swiftly slid out of the bed and grabbed my slippers off the floor. "No. You have to get ready for school. The weekend hasn't started yet." She plastered on a fake smile.

Once I was at the door, I heard her trying to wake up Aubrey.

About an hour later, Aubrey entered my room fully dressed. She had on a burgundy t-shirt, white converses, and her hair was up in a bun. Aubrey looked so beautiful. "My mom's picking me up early from school today. She's going to buy me my own car," she informed me, with a hint of disappointment in her voice.

"Why aren't you happy?" I finished lacing up my sneakers and walked over to her, placing her hands into mine. "I don't wanna talk about it. We should go, before it really gets late." She let go of my hands and looked away. "... Okay." I grabbed my keys off the nightstand and I followed behind Aubrey.

Aubrey got in the back this time. I didn't say anything, I just headed to Jays to pick him up. "Well damn. You're on time and I get the front seat? I'm liking this." He joked, throwing his bag on the floor before hopping in the front seat. Jay must have picked up on something being wrong because actually stopped talking and cracking jokes.

As soon as we got to school, I pulled Aubrey aside and tried to talk to her. "Hey, you okay? I can tell that something's up," I said lowly. Aubrey paused for a moment before finally taking a deep breath and talking to me.

"It's just that my mom said a few things to me this morning…it's nothing. I'll see you at lunch, okay?" She gave me a kiss on the cheek and walked away.

Had her mother caught on to what was happening between me and Aubrey? It would make a lot of sense as to why she was suddenly getting Aubrey her own car. That would put a little separation between Aubrey and I. She would no longer rely on me for rides to and from school or hour Saturday morning mall trips. Was she trying to break me and Aubrey up?
