Chapter 10

Alexis:

On the way to school, Aubrey sat in the front while as we drove to pick up Jay. Knowing him, he wouldn't be upset having to sit in the back, but he was still getting a ride, so it shouldn't really matter.

Of course, Jay complained when he realized he wasn't going to be sitting in the front seat. "You know what. I see how it is. I don't care," he bitched, putting headphones in and sitting silently.

As we drove to school, Aubrey texted away on her phone. It was really starting to bug me. Instead of having a conversation, she texted obnoxiously. Was she texting her boyfriend?

I know we weren't serious right now, but I hoped we would eventually get there. But if we were, she needed to get rid of that nerdy white boy. I mean, seriously, who survives long-distance relationships?

Once we finally got to school, I parted ways with Aubrey and Jay, and I headed to our first period class, Journalism. Jay still hadn't said a word to me since we got back in school, and it was killing me.

"Come on, Jay. I'm sorry, but I like her," I whined, nudging him. "I know. But that doesn't mean you have to start treating her better." He scoffed. "You two are completely different. If I'm with her, I can't treat her like you. You and me play ball and clown all day. With Aubrey, it's more touchy and deep. You gotta understand that," I argued. "It's cool. You're right," he said.

School was kind of boring, considering I only saw Aubrey at lunch, and we wouldn't have classes together until the second or third period. A few girls would try to talk to me throughout the day, but I paid them no mind. Aubrey was the only thing that consumed my thoughts. Her beauty, her sensitivity, the softness of her skin. Man, I was falling in love.

Imagine my excitement when it was time for lunch, and I saw Aubrey sashaying out of her classroom. She usually didn't stop at her locker, but today, she did. "Hey," I greeted her, wrapping my arms around her waist and starting to kiss her neck.

"Wait, stop," she whispered, looking around and detaching my hands from her body.

"What's wrong?" I questioned.

"I like how that feels and all, but can you wait until we're alone at least?" Aubrey asked, turning to face me.

Seriously? "I hope you are not embarrassed or ashamed of me..." I trailed off as we walked out to the courtyard.

"I'm not. It's just that I just got to this school. I don't want anyone to label me as something I'm not." She shrugged.

"Like what? Gay? Lesbian? It's not so bad. You'll know for sure once you dump Mike." I scoffed. Aubrey gave me a surprised look followed by a nervous giggle.

"Mike isn't that bad," she defended. "He is when I want you, and you are stuck on him," I mumbled. I was pretty sure Aubrey heard clearly what I said, but she just chose to let it go. "I'm just ready for this day to be over. I'm pretty sure I failed two quizzes already today, and I have a stomachache," she whined.

Poor Aubrey. The last thing I wanted to do was add to her bad day. "We should skip the rest of the day..." I suggested, grabbing her hand and discretely heading to the parking lot to my car. "I can't. I have to hand in my assignments," Aubrey protested. "Come on. It'll be fine. Just get in."

And it really was fine. Aubrey and I headed to the beach. The water was clear, and the sand was the perfect temperature. We used our clothes as beach blankets and ran back to them to lay on while we air-dried. I ran my fingers through her thick hair while she gently ran her fingertips along my thighs, sending me in shock.

"Have you met anybody or made any friends? Like, besides my crew," I asked her.

Aubrey sighed. "Eh, I guess. Some girl has been talking to me in a few of my classes. Nothing deep, though. Just stupid girly stuff," she told me.

"Aw, that's nice. What's her name?" I asked, happy that she was starting to allow herself to communicate with people other than her friends back in Vermont.

"Jess or Jessina or something," she said.

I ended up choking on my spit after she said the name Jessina. That was the first girl I had messed with in high school. Jessina hates me. I couldn't blame her either. I broke her heart. She was really into me, and I let her best friend ride my face. Hell, I couldn't help it. Jessina was pretty, but her friend was gorgeous and tasted like peaches. "Oh, wow. Does she know that we live together?" I asked her smoothly. My brain was doing flips as I thought about Aubrey's possible answer. Jessina would probably kill me.

"Yeah. She asked why I moved, and I told her about our parents," Aubrey answered, shrugging. Oh, God. "That's all you told her, right?" I questioned. Aubrey nodded and giggled. "Yes, Alexis. Why are you acting so jittery?" she said. "I'm not." I gulped. "You are. You are so jittery that I can feel you fidgeting. What's up?" Aubrey said, raising her eyebrows. "Nothing." I shrugged.

"Liar." Aubrey laughed sarcastically. I sat up quickly. "I'm not lying," I said. "You are. She told me about you two already. About a week ago. Something about you cheating with her best friend. I'm not one to judge," Aubrey stated, throwing her hands up. "Good," I said, pecking her lips. "I just hope you won't have one of my friends on top of your tongue. I'll probably kill you. And I didn't really tell Jessina anything. Just that I was new here. She doesn't know that I know you, so relax." Aubrey smiled innocently.

"Yeah, yeah. We should get going. It's almost six." I watched her slip her clothes on before heading back to the car.

My woman.
