CHAPTER NINETY-THREE

CHAPTER NINETY-THREE

Alexis

Cassie had been gone for a minute.

I didn’t want to interrupt her alone time.

So, I stayed behind and tries to find out everything I could about Sarah Masters and the last 20 years.

I came up with zilch.

Which wasn’t comforting at all.

No one lives in this world of technology and doesn’t leave a simple trail.

Something felt off.

But I wouldn’t tell Cassie that.

She was going through enough.

Just finding out that the man you love has fathered a child for the past 20 years is pretty mind blowing to say the least.

But she was gone a while.

Should I be worried?

I shut my laptop and was on my way to find her when Jericho and Alex arrived.

Shoot.

They both walked in with a look on their faces that told me they weren’t in the best of moods.

Pfft.

That’s putting it lightly.

Jericho looked as if he was dying.

He was ghostly pale, and his eyes were bloodshot.

Dare I say they were the eyes of someone who had been crying.

Fuck it.

I dare say it.

He had most definitely been crying.

And I did not blame him one bit.

The situation was unconventional.

I mean.

It’s not every day that you find out you’re a father after twenty years.

Or was it?

As they both slump down on the sofa in the lounge.

I see Jericho looking around.

As if searching for something.

Or someone.

Cassie.

“She’s not here.”

I interrupt his search.

“Where is she.”

The words flying out of his mouth almost as fast as he needed to take in oxygen.

“She went for a walk.”

I explain.

“How long has she been gone?”

That was a good question.

“A while actually.”

He starts to stand.

“And you didn’t think to check on her.”

He’s almost yelling at me.

Hmm.

“I’m not the one she’s running from Jericho.”

His eyes widen.

He knew exactly what I was on about.

“She knows.”

I nod my head.

“She knows everything.”

I confirm to him.

He slowly sits back down and puts his hands to his head.

“This was not the way she was supposed to find out.”

He starts muttering.

God.

I was so sick of this bullshit.

“Well, how did you expect the woman you love to find out you fathered a child.”

He gaze is quickly upon me.

“Not like this I can assure you Alexis.”

I didn’t care for his tone.

As far as I was concerned, he and his family could suck my dick.

They hurt my friend.

I wasn’t having any of it.

“Yeah, well you see Jericho it seems your words don’t have any meaning do they.”

He stands from the sofa again making his way towards me.

“And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

I walk towards him to meet in the middle.

I wasn’t backing down from this.

“I warned you, “didn’t I?”

“I told you that if you hurt my friend, I would make your life miserable and look…”

“Not only have you hurt my friend, but you’ve also made her flee.”

The look in his eyes was nothing if not menacing.

“I can assure you this wasn’t my intention.”

“Why do you think we came back?”

I inched even closer to his face.

He was taller than me by far but in this moment.

I felt like I was a giant.

“No probably not.”

“But still it’s happened.”

“So let me assure you Mr Dean.”

“If anything,…”

“And I mean anything.”

“Happens to my best friend, I won’t just make your life miserable.”

“I’ll make it so the whole world knows exactly just the kind of man you are.”

“Oh, and believe me when I say…”

“After I’m finished with you, you will regret the day you met me or Cassandra.”

“Got it.”

He suddenly took a step back.

He got the message.

Alex was sitting in the couch looking between the both of us.

Then our heads suddenly turned when we heard…

“Am I interrupting something.”

Cassie was standing there.

Eyeing us all wearily.

She had no idea what she had just walked in on.

Which was good for her.

Because then I wouldn’t have had the chance to set Jericho straight.

I didn’t particularly want her knowing I was threatening the man she loved.

But maybe I did.

Maybe she would see that I was on her side.

Trying to protect her.

But then again…

Maybe not.

I snap out of it and head towards her.

“Don’t be silly.”

“Jericho and I were just discussing the events that had happened while they were in the Hamptons.”

Jericho too had snapped out of it.

“Yes of course.”

“About that.”

“Cassandra, can we talk…”

He looked towards me and Alex.

“Privately.”

I look down to Alex sitting on the couch.

“That means us dick wad.”

Alex quickly removes his ass from my sofa and follows me into the other room.

As we leave the two of them to figure their shit out.

I see anguish written all over Alex’s face.

“Drink.”

I offer.

His head pops up.

I guess he forgot I was here.

“Please.”

Deep in his own thoughts.

Makes sense.

Not too long ago he thought he was the father of Sarah’s child.

We all did.

But to learn that it was indeed your big brother’s.

That’s got to be tough.

Considering he clearly loved her.

That’s got to cut deep.

“Here.”

I pass him the glass which is filled with sweet nectar.

“So…”

He takes a sip.

“Yeah.”

“So…”

I take a sip.

I didn’t know what to say to him.

Standing there in awkwardness.

I needed to say something at least.

This awkwardness was going to kill me.

Think of something Alexis.

Anything.

“You have a niece.”

Not that.

He looks at me over the brim of his glass.

“It seems that way doesn’t it.”

Cold.

Too soon.

“What’s the deal with you being a rapist then?”

Omg.

I had word vomit.

How could I bring this up at a time like this.

He’s looking at me.

With shock in his eyes.

No wait…

It’s amusement.

How is this amusing.

“Quiet the inquisitive little go getter aren’t you.”

He replies.

With a smirk on his face.

As he goes for the glass again.

Ha.

He doesn’t know the half of it.

“If I’m going to tell you, my story.”

“I’m going to need a refill.”

I look towards his glass.

It was empty.

Funny.

I didn’t see him drink it.

“That…”

“I can help with.”

As I poured him another drink.

I found myself seating across from him.

Ready to hear how Alex Dean became the monster of The Hamptons.

Which to me.

Was far better than wondering what the hell Jericho and Cassandra were talking about.
