Chapter 33 Chapter thirty three
The beast has four heads with long tongue like that of snakes. It has the body of a hippopotamus and huge legs that quaked the ground as it walked towards us. To be simply put, it was really grotesque.
“Run.”
I shouted stubbornly again and began to run forward but she just stood still. Suddenly, a long strong tongue wrapped around me, stucking me in place. A sense of dread instantly washed over me and i slowly turned back to see Finly lying motionless on the floor.
It roared loudly again sending me flying meters away, due to the strong wind that blew from its mouth.
Quickly, i waved my hands and a shield appeared. I charged towards it, but it just rammed straight into me with one of its head and the shield crumpled to nothing. The impact caught me on my stomach before i could react and i coughed up a mouthful of blood.
I fell weakly to the ground, the blisters on my body already bleeding. On smelling blood, the beast grew crazy. I tried standing up to run but it stomped hard on me.
With my last bit of strength and consciousness, i unleashed a blast of light from my body. Surprisingly, my eyes had gotten used to the blinding lights and didn't hurt me. I stood up wobbly and directed the light towards it, pushing it foward with my two hands my face showing cracks of strain.
It continued to fight relentlessly, trying to get passed the overwhelming energy. It roared ferociously at me releasing a trail of fire from it mouth. Athletically, i dodged it, and it passed over my head. I gradually began to grow weak and the energy from the light decreased.
Sensing this, it rammed into me with renewed energy. This time, it was able to get through the barricade of light and jammed its head into my belly.
“Arggh…”
I screamed in anguish and fell to the floor again. It opened its mouth and unleashed a torrent of fire on me. I quickly created a protective shield but it soon cracked and the fire began to burn me.
Fueled by pain, and controlled by an unknown force, i imitated the drawing of a spear and it immediately appeared in my hand. With my last effort, i hauled it into its open mouth before it could grasp what I was doing.
It gave an ear piercing scream that rang in my head for hours before turning away running back to oblivion.
Breathing in relief, i sat down and closed my eyes. A soothing breeze blew over me and when I opened my eyes again, all my blisters were completely gone.
“I guess this is one more power unlocked” i said softly towards finly, but she didn't respond. Alarmed, i scrambled towards her and shook her violently, but her lips were pale and white already.
Her pure white hair and skin slowly began to turn black like charcoal. “No finly you can't do this, how can I go on without a guardian.? You can't die finly, how can you? You've lived for millions of years remember.? Why am i always the unlucky one.?” I cried bitterly my tears flowing uncontrollably.
I rested my head on her chest and wept, my tears falling drop by drop on her body. Suddenly, a mystical crystal blue light surrounded her, enveloping her until she disappeared.
“No…!..”
I screamed and collapsed to the ground. But the crystal blue light only lifted Finly several meters above the ground, before gently lowering her back. My watery eyes widened in surprise. Her skin and hair that had turned black had regained it colour.
She coughed lightly and opened her eyes slowly. Happiness steeped through me and i hugged her tightly. “I thought I've lost you” i muttered “i thought I'm a bad master and couldn't keep you safe.
She patted my back “you're the best master. You saved my from going forever.” She said
“What.?” I asked with confusion and she laughed softly. “Those crystal blue lights were your tears. You resurrected me.” She replied caressing my palm.
I tried saying something again but the words hung in my throat and blood began to steep out of my nose. “Oh no.! You've overused your powers for today. Although you might be almost invincible, there's a limit to how you can use your powers if not there's a backlash” she explained pointing at my dimming tattoo.
“You can't let this dim out. The backlash will be really serious. You need to rest for atleast two days.”
On hearing this, my heart skipped. “Two days.? That means I'll not have much time left for the last trial. I can't…..” my voice trailed off and i blacked out.
When i opened my eyes again, i was in the middle of the biggest flower field I've ever seen. Birds were chirping and flying around carrying things in their beaks, and the soothing sound of a slow flowing river was also very relaxing.
I slowly stood up and saw finly squatting by the river. I walked up to her and tried giving her a scare but she turned back sharply and gripped me.
“Hey.! Easy.” I laughed and she joined in. “How did you notice me, i walked as carefully as i can” i pouted and she pinched my cheek. “Never underestimate the sharp instinct of a guardian” she teased and began to walk back to the field.
“How did we get here.?” I asked plucking a purple hibiscus and sniffing it. She laughed softly “you spent all your two days of unconsciousness building all this” she replied.
“I can't do all this while unconscious.?” I asked in bewilderment. She nodded but i noticed a hint of sadness in her eyes.
“What's the problem.?” I asked in concern putting my hand on her shoulder softly. She sighed sadly “I'm sorry Emma, your last trial arrived last night but you weren't in good shape to take on it. Its all my fault for letting you use your powers to resurrect me” she cried in guilt.
Although I was sad too, i comforted her and assured her it'll be alright. “Your powers.. how many are they now.?” She asked softly.
“Seven”
She nodded “your trial is almost over. You'll get your remaining two powers or gifts in the last trial.” As we spoke, the ground around us began to quake violently like an earthquake was about to occur.
