Emma's pov

On seeing it was Reno, i couldn't control my emotions and collapsed straight into his arms sobbing like an infant. He slowly stroked my hair and led me to sit back on the bed.
After crying for sometime, he handed me a handkerchief to clean my tears. Then he softly kissed my temple.
“Thank you again princess" he said and I looked up mortified.
“Your tears aided my speedy recovery" he added seeing my confused look.
“That's not the problem Reno. They want me to give a speech and leave!" I protested.
He sighed and suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me. “Thank you for everything you've done for me princess. I love you but we can't be together. Since the beginning of immortality, it has never been heard that light and darkness lived in harmony"
My heart pounded loudly against my ribs and blood rushed straight to my head. Is he going to give up just like that.?
“What are you saying?" I asked in a shaky voice, taking his hands to help him from his kneels.
He tried speaking but his eyes became glassy and a drop of tear fell on my feet. The sensation sent a feeling i couldn't understand all over my body.
I'm not going to give up like this! Leave him to be with someone he actually doesn't love. Although i had every reason to hate this prince of darkness before me, he's simply irresistible.
“Let's run away" i suddenly said in a strong tone that left no room for negotiation.
His eyes looked straight into mine in surprise. “Wherever we run to princess, chaos and disaster will only follow. It's our destiny” he replied defeated.
But my eyes shone with a fierce look of determination. " We'll fight to the death then. I'm never leaving you for them”
It was as if my spark transferred to him and his eyes lit up too. " Let's go to earth till we can find a long lasting solution” he offered. I nodded without hesitation.
" After the speech tomorrow and no one is suspicious, we'll make our move" i replied. He suddenly cupped my face and kissed me deeply.
“I love you my princess" he confessed.
Although he had said this before, hearing it again and at this critical moment made me emotional and safe.
“I love you too my prince"
We pretended to be normal in front of everyone especially Charline who kept smiling and clinging to Reno throughout supper.
Lucifer was quiet but i could feel his piercing, observant stare on us. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he didn't speak about his earlier suspicions.
“Don't forget your speech tomorrow princess. I received a message from the fifth elder demanding you report to duty at the celestial city and pay the customary visit to heaven where your betrothed is waiting for you” he expressionlessly said as he leisurely chewed.
I faked a smile like i was pleased and continued eating. Charline casted me a puzzling gaze, surprised that I didn't object. This made her more smug as she spoon fed Reno under the praises of Valerie.
“I have prepared the gown for your speech" Valerie suddenly said to me.
" That's so thoughtful of you Queen Valerie.” I commented like it was a surprise. In truth, I overhead two maids gossiping about it. They claimed i was trying to seduce prince Reno because he was handsome and impressive and I've used my powers to put him under a spell despite how nice Valarie has been to customize a gown for me.
She feigned a smile and ordered the maids to bring the gown for me to see. Although I tried not to be amazed, the gown was more expensive than the entire Walker's family networth.!
It was designed with layers of shining diamonds on the hem and waist areas. The material used was hundred percent authentic that even a blind person could easily verify that.
“It's beautiful. Thank you" i politely greeted as the maids careful put the gown away.
“It's nothing. It's the least we can do for your send off. And we also hope you can attend Reno's and Charline's wedding which is coming up soon" she replied elegantly.
" I'll do my best to be present” i replied, biting the inside of my cheek to stop myself from exploding on the spot.
Finally, the chaotic supper was over. " Reno come to my study now” Lucifer ordered as he headed upstairs.
We exchanged a knowing glance at each other before he followed suit.
I didn't go back to my room but instead sat on the living room, switching through channels without actually paying attention to anything.
Unable to curtail my curiosity any longer, i crept to the study and peeped through the little opening on the unlocked door. The walls were sound proof and did a really good job swallowing any sounds from within.
But through the crack, i was hearing Lucifer's furious voice and scolding and afraid we were caught already.
I suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder and before i could react, i was pushed into the study.
Charline stood with an evil grin as i crashed right in front of the father and son. Lucifer's face darkened as he looked down at me on the floor and up gradually at Charline whose facial expression had changed in a flash.
“I.. didn't mean to ‘princess emma'. I just saw you peeping through the hole and wanted to tell you to stop listening to their conversation. I didn't expect you to be so startled and fall.” She said pitifully attempting to crouch down to help me up.
" Don't do that.” Valarie quickly stopped her and helped me up instead. Shame made my face burn so i quickly turned and ran out of the study under everyone's stare.
I collapsed on the bed after slamming the door shut in humiliation.
I just wanted to escape to earth as soon as possible!!!
