Chapter 102 Habits
Verena
I woke up to butterflies swimming in my stomach, Daxton’s cock rock hard against my ass as he snuggled into me with his hands curling over my waist.
I smiled and turned—taking in his long dark eyelashes, the slight rise and fall of his chest as I ran my fingers through his face before leaning forward to press a kiss on those soft–lips.
“Good morning,” I whispered, his eyes fluttering open and his body tensing as I ran my hand down his chest, the muscled abs and ridges before going lower.
Daxton groaned into my ears while I slipped my hand through the band of his boxers grabbing his semi-hard on in a firm grip, stroking him in my hands.
“I love it when you wake me up like this,” he shifted to hovering over me as he leaned in for a passionate kiss.
I hooked my leg around his waist, still fisting his cock until the ringing of the doorbell cut through the sexual tension building between us.
Daxton jerked back, brows furrowing in confusion as he glanced at the door and fixed his eyes back on me. “Expecting someone?”
“No? You?”
He shook his head. “We should just continue—”
The doorbell rang again and this time, Daxton snapped his head to the door—anger burning in his eyes. “Who the fuck is that because I know it isn't Matilda,”
“We won't know if we don't check,” I dropped his dick while he rolled off me, groaning in frustration. “We’re working from home today, Verena. I am so tired and want to rest,”
I slid off the bed, slipping into my pink fluffy slippers as I reached for Daxton’s shirt and threw it over my head. “Let me get the door,”
“I will come with you,”
“Nope. You are tired and you should lie in bed a little longer,” I said, when last night popped up my head again. I crawled back on the bed and placed another soft kiss on his lips. “Thank you for the car. I loved it,”
“I knew you would. Check the door and get over here asap,”
“You feel better now, yeah?” Our faces were so close and the constant ringing of the doorbell was starting to grate on my nerves.
Who the fuck was that?
“I will be right back—” I was about to pull away but he grabbed the back of my neck, angled my head, and kissed me deeply, groaning with need against my mouth before letting me go.
I didn't bother looking into the intercom, just went straight for the door. Daisy was already barking at the door aggressively while I ruffled her head and opened the door.
“Who is—” My breath caught, the color draining completely from my face as I stared at Jaden and worse, the person standing next to him. Kian.
What the fuck.
I looked from Kian to Jaden as their mouths dropped in shock. “You live around here?” They said at the same
time as my eyes dropped to the small plate of cake that Jaden was holding.
Heat bloomed on my cheeks. I was one second away from slamming the door on their faces.
“I thought you didn't live around here? You took the bus last night, right?” Kian said.
If there was one thing I hated, it was being cut in a lie because sometimes, I didn't know how to get out of it. “Maybe it was the wine—” I ran my hand through the back of my neck.
Jaden cleared his throat. “Good morning, Miss Verena. I’m only trying to meet and get to know the neighbors. It’s a surprise to see you here. Emily didn't tell me you live here,”
I forced out an awkward laugh, taking the plate from Jaden and goosebumps soon spilled over me when I felt eyes running down my body.
My eyes cut to Kian with a sharp glare and he quickly spoke. “I don't live here but I’m staying over at Jaden’s house in the meantime until I get my house back,”
“Until you get the house back?” I asked, staring down at the cake. My favorite strawberry cake.
Sadness crossed his face as he sighed. “Zita put my house for sale and it’s been a tug of war trying to get it back,”
Good for you.
“That’s sad—” Before I could finish, the hair at the back of my neck stood at the very end as Daxton’s voice boomed through the air.
Kian’s eyes widened. “Is that my uncle? You live in the same house as him? I always heard Uncle Daxton lived in one of these neighborhoods but never knew it was here. This week has just been full of coincidences. Last night and now,”
“Right Jaden?” He jabbed him gently with his elbow.
“Right. What a coincidence,”
Daxton’s large hands slipped above my waist possessively as a chill crawled up my spine. “What are you two doing here?”
“Hi, Mr. Daxton. I am Jaden Smith and I am your new neighbor,”
Daxton didn't respond, only darting his eyes to Kian. “And you?”
“I only accompanied Jaden here and I’m surprised to find out you live here with my wife…” The word slipped out of his mouth before he could stop it.
I froze—the same time a deep growl rumbled from Daxton’s chest.
What did he mean by ‘wife’?
Kian slapped his hand over his mouth. “Did I just say that? I meant ex-wife—”
“But, you can't blame me. It’s been less than a year since we divorced and I guess, I am just used to calling Verena my wife. I mean, we were married for five years,”
“I’m sorry if you both were offended by that slip off but some habits don't just change in a night, Uncle.”
