Chapter 14

“I THOUGHT you’re going to Manila today?” Tom, their family driver, asked Alexander when he saw him parked his car in front of the Hacienda Montefort.

“I forgot something,” Alexander said and went straight to the stairs. He saw his sister Georgia, busy on her smartphone in the living room. The brat didn’t even look up to greet him. “Hey, Georgia, what’s your phone model?”

Georgia looked up and gave him a puzzled look. “Why do you ask?” she said and looked at her phone, “since when you started to have interests in gadgets?”

“Can you please just answer my question?” he snapped. His sister was always nosy with all his life decisions. “Is that an android phone?”

“Yup,” she said and faced the screen to him. “It’s the newest model of smartphones today. It has the highest specs among all the android phone models. Do you want to know how much I spent to get this?”

“I wanted to know where you got the money that you used to get that newest smartphone in the market,” he said and walked towards her brat sister. He snatched the phone from her hand and checked it. “I don’t see any special in this phone”

“I used my allowance to buy this,” Georgia said and snatched back the phone from his hand. “And it has the highest megapixels of camera. It’s best to use by vloggers, you know. But only a few can afford it.”

Alexander took out his phone. “I will call Minerva and ask her about my bank SOA”

“Okay, okay!” Georgia blurted out. “I withdrew some cash in the ATM that you gave me for emergency purposes.”

“For emergency purposes, but you used it to buy that nonsense phone?” Alexander caught his head. “How much is this? A hundred thousand?”

Georgia pressed her lips together. “It’s not just nonsense...” she said and rolled her eyes ceiling wards. “I will pay it to you with my allowances—”

“I won’t give you an allowance for three months,” he said with finality. “Maybe you showed this phone to Amara. That’s why she also wanted to have a phone.”

“Did she ask you for a new phone?” Georgia asked with an arched brow. “I never showed her my phone. Maybe she remembered that she couldn’t live without a phone before,” she smirked. “I talked to her last time. She couldn’t remember who I was. And, she’s also the topic of our housemaids here. I heard Amara approached them with respect.”

“She’s a different woman now,” Alexander said with a sigh. “Maybe because of the accident, she realized all the bad things that she did before.”

Georgia snorted. “That’s kind of impossible. With all the sinful things that she did before, she could replace Satan in hell.”

Alexander scowled at his sister. “Never mentioned it to her. Remember that she saved Billie from the explosion,” he said and went to the stairs. He was on his way to his room next to Amara when he saw Thelma and Aura stepped out of Billie’s room.

“Good afternoon, Sir Alexander,” Aura greeted him while Thelma avoided his eyes.

“What the two of you are doing in Billie’s room?” he asked, pointing to Thelma. “I told you to stay with Amara so you could give everything that she needs?”

“Miss Amara is sleeping inside her room, sir,” Aura told him. “Right, Thelma?”

When the maid didn’t answer, Alexander pushed open the door of Amara’s room. The bed was made, and Amara wasn’t inside. “She’s not here,” he said as he looked around the room. He checked the veranda and the toilet. What he only saw was her used clothes, folded neatly on the laundry basket. “She’s not here,” he repeated and looked at Thelma. “Where is she?”

Thelma pressed her lips together and lowered her head. “Miss Amara went to the vineyard alone. She said that she wanted some time alone.”

“And why did you let her go alone?” Alexander cut off. “I told you to follow wherever she goes.”

“I’m sorry, Sir Alexander…” Thelma clutched on her skirt and lowered her head. “Miss Amara requested to leave her alone for now because she wanted to think clearly.”

“You mentioned to me that you suggested to her to have a walk outside, but I thought you’re going with her,” Aura whispered to Thelma loud enough to reach Alexander’s ears.

“We have to find her,” Alexander said. “Amara lost her memories. She’s not aware of how the workers of the winery treat her. And with her state of mind now, she might get hurt.”

Alexander and the two housemaids parted ways at the vineyard. Alexander chose to go to the harvesters, where the workers’ families often stay. If you’re coming from the hacienda, this is the first route you will see.

The workers around looked and greeted Alexander warmly. He hesitated to ask them if they saw Amara because he knew that all of them hated the woman. He’s going to find her around. He’s sure that she’s just nearby.

“Sir Alexander!” A woman from his side approached him. “Your wife went here earlier and acted strangely.”

Alexander knotted his forehead. “What did Amara do?”

“She walked here as if she’d done nothing wrong and greeted everyone,” the woman answered. “And, then she attacked a child—”

“That’s not true!” the child on the woman’s side protested. “She saved me from the falling ladder!”

“The kid is right,” the man beside the kid agreed. “I missed a step on the ladder, then I saw Miss Amara running towards the kid. The ladder fell on her instead to the kid.” He shook his head. “It was my fault, if she didn’t use her body to cover the kid, he must have hurt badly because of my negligence.”

“She did that?” Alexander asked in disbelief, then looked at the woman that accused Amara of hurting the kid. “Is it true?”

The woman drew her brows together. “I thought she ran to attack the kid,” she said. “Anyway, Miguel dragged her out here and maybe brought her in a private place.”

“What did you say?” Alexander clenched his jaw. The man that they mentioned is also the man that he caught making out with Amara.

“They threw rotten grapes to Miss Amara while she’s on the ground and doesn’t know what to do,” the kid explained. “She was crying, but they didn’t stop.”

Alexander scowled at the woman. “You hurt my wife?”

The woman didn’t expect Alexander’s reaction. “That serves her right—”

“You even wished her to be dead!” the kid shouted again angrily. “While you’re all busy glaring at her, she saw me in danger and acted instantly to save me—”

“Shut your mouth, Timothy.” The woman glared at the kid. “No one needs your opinion here,” she said, then looked at Alexander. “I saw Miguel took Amara, and they went at the storage—”

“I won’t let this pass,” he cut off. “I told all of you that she has amnesia, why do you have to be so rude to her?”

The woman lowered her head. “I’m sorry, sir—”

Alexander didn’t let the woman finished her words. He went directly to the storage house, where they put all the wine barrels. He was just a few steps away from the storage when he heard Amara’s screams.

Alexander didn’t waste any time. He kicked the door opened and saw the man harassing his wife. “Hey!” He grabbed the man’s shirt, dragged him away, and knocked his face.
