Chapter 70
Persephone’s POV
I woke up in time for the classes today but there was a note on my bedside table which was written by Alizeh.
You have been excused from classes today since you were poisoned last night again. Take the rest and read this book on how to fight a vamp!
Alizeh!!!
Wow! She had found a book from the library for my duel against that bitch. But first I needed coffee. Once the machine started whirring and dripping the brown coloured ambrosia falling in the cup and I moaned at the smell.
“I thought that you would be up by now,” came Bernard’s voice from one corner of the room.
“And how on earth did you enter my room even without using the doorway?” I asked without even looking at him. I should not feel ashamed about him watching me in my rumpled night clothes but I was always self conscious when it came to him. I did not know exactly why, probably because he was the one who could watch me without speaking.
“I have my ways,” he said with a smile as he placed a caramel macchiato with extra shot of coffee for me, and it was from Starbucks and my eyes widened at that.
“How did you get Starbucks here? There are no human coffee shops in this realm and nothing in this Academy…the cute barista told me everything I needed to know about the coffee situation here and that ios the reason I negotiated this machine in my room while I said I would stay in the academy,” I said as I took the cup from the table and then inhaled the scent.
Oh this was heaven!
“Your expression watching that coffee cup makes interdimensional travel worth it.”
I turned towards him fully this time and said,” Are you telling me that you went to earth to get a coffee of my choice from a place that I like and brought it here just to make sure that I would not blast you and bar you from my room for the foreseeable future?”
“Umm that was not what I was thinking of obviously, but yeah, I will take that,” he said as he pulled a chair and sat down.
“What were you thinking?” I asked as I sipped a bit from the cup he had brought and moaned at the taste as soon as it hit my tongue. I did not know what it was about coffee, it made me feel fucking alive and jarred my senses awake. My Grandmaman had introduced me to coffee when I was sixteen and I had been immensely glad that she had done that.
“Yesterday night should have been difficult for you. The poisoning and the…” Bernard stopped speaking as I could see that he was struggling with the words.
“I wanted to chop off his hands for touching me,” I supplied as I drank some more.
“So did I. But Marcellus has placed him in the dungeon and there will be an investigation and a lot of stuff will be done after that but the immediate thirst for vengeance hasn’t been fulfilled and I wanted you to feel a little better. So I thought that if this might work and from the looks of it I was right.”
“Did Nyra tell you what to get?” I asked as I smiled behind the cup.
“Am I that gullible?”
“Yeah you got the caramel macchiato, only she knows that it is my favourite. If you had gotten something else like espresso, latte, cappuccino, cold coffee, I would not have thought so but this…yeah, this has Nyra written all over it. But I am really thankful for this cup. It helps a little bit.”
“I am glad it helps. Because I have been personally given the responsibility to teach you how to use your magic against vampires since you have asked that new fledgeling for a duel.”
“Alizeh got me a book to read. I plan on doing that.”
“Yeah, no books are for research. Now you need the crash course,” Bernard said with a grin and I immediately sensed something was very wrong.
“You did not answer my first question till now.”
“What was that?”
“How the hell did you enter my room even when I had warded it! And no, this cup of coffee does not exempt you from answering this particular question.”
“Huh! I thought it would. But clearly it doesn’t. But that is a secret you can’t share with anyone else. This is not a magic that is exactly encouraged to learn or even taught.”
“I got a grimoire of the Fates themselves, I think I will be fine with some restricted magic, dude. Speak up and quit stalling!”
Bernard looked at me and then stared at the mirror behind me and smiled.
“You bastard!”
