Chapter 41 — An Island Called Agnus

“Don’t you dare come.”
She typed before sending the text to her so-called ‘husband.’ She then put her phone back in her pocket and continued to walk to a vacant chair.
Of course, she wanted Ace to show up and announce to the public that they were husband and wife, but she chose not to. Other than his reputation, their marriage wasn’t really a serious thing for him. Or so she thought.
She believed that Ace was just bored so he made her his wife on paper. She thought that it was impossible for a cold-blooded man to fall in love so fast.
She stayed for a while and when their professor told them to take photos, she didn’t bother to object. It’s been an hour and she had several missed calls from Ace, so she had no choice but to go home early.
Everyone was busy so she thought it would be fine to sneak out. However, when she was about to walk out the door, a voice stopped her.
“Where are you going, Thea? Leaving the show?” Thea turned her head and saw one of Haley's friends behind her, looking as if Thea was a thief who needed to be thrown in jail.
Thea raised her eyebrows and her thin lips stretched into a smile. Some of her hair was swaying against the delicate skin of her bare shoulders. She then crossed her arms in front of her chest and faced the person. She doesn’t even know her name.
“Yes. My husband is waiting for me,” she answered honestly but her response backfired. Before she knew it, people were surrounding her to find out who her husband was.
“Let us escort you then,” said another woman in a blue lace dress.
“We just want to say hi, that’s all,” added another person.
She didn’t dare respond and walked away towards the exit. As she expected, a lot of people followed her without her permission.
It was supposed to be a great day for her. Now that she had finished her studies, people from her workplace wouldn’t bully her anymore. Well, not really. They just wanted her to resign because they didn’t expect her to be outstanding at her job.
There were times when she thought about leaving her work, but her friend Kendra would always tell her that she must not be weak. She had also met Tristan there and being close to him made her coworkers' hatred grow even bigger.
“Why is your husband not here yet?” When she heard Haley's irritated voice, she snapped back to reality.
“No one's begging you to wait here,” she said. Haley gasped. Thea imagined what Haley must be thinking: how could this woman be so shameless, answering without good manners, she must be executed!
“Oh, God! Look!” All their attention focused on a red A car.
Everyone was dumbfounded. The A car was created only a week ago by the most well-known company in the city. It was actually the most expensive car on the earth and there were only three of them in the world.
“My dad wanted to buy one, but they cost a hundred million dollars. Now I know why dad was eager to own it,” one student said. Almost everyone came from a wealthy family, but even they had to admit that the A car would cost them a fortune.
“Young madam!” Everyone was speechless when the car stopped, and a handsome young man got out. His well-tailored black suit looked perfect. The sharpness of his features and strong structure made the girls breathless.
“Young madam. Due to an urgent matter, the young master can’t fetch you today, so he asked me to come on his behalf.”
It was as if a cold breeze made Thea's body shiver. The heck? She didn’t know how to feel. Should she be disappointed that classmates did not get to see her husband, or that Ace did not bother to pick her up as he said he would?
She automatically nodded even though she was kind of disappointed. To lessen the attention, she immediately got inside the car with Red's help and let others stare at her with envy. They were obviously envious of the car.
“Can I hang out with Tristan?” she asked politely.
“Sorry madam but no. Young master Ace instructed me to take you to Agnus Island,” Red replied while focusing on the road.
“Agnus Island?” she repeated.
“Yes.” With that, their conversation ended. Thoughts flashed in her mind, but she didn’t dare to ask anything else. All she was curious about was the so-called Agnus Island.
In her mind, she thought, ‘why did that name sound so familiar?’
