“I am not sure, but she has her luggage with her,” Nico answered back, his eyes darting from Lac to Elora.
“Is there anything wrong?” Elora inquired, sending the tension in the air.
“Not at all. Rest easy, the maids will attend to you now. I’ve got to see a guest who’s waiting for me downstairs.” Lac said, his expression softened as he looked at her.
She nodded, watching as he stepped out of the room.
“I’ll be back.”
“Take your time.” She retorted then he closed the door gently.
Lac and Nico walked away from the couple’s room toward the shore stairs quickly.
“How did you find this place? She was ringing me nonstop yesterday…how did she even find my contact?” Lac questioned sternly as they walked downstairs.
“You must have forgotten that she's Vera. She must have done everything to get your contact.” Nico answered back as they got downstairs.
“Great,” Lac muttered as they got to the door, Nico opened it, making Lac stepped out confidently.
Vera was standing at the entrance. She was clad in a short blue gown that clung to her body. The gown was sleeveless, revealing her fair and spotless shoulders. Her long straight hair was dyed blonde and she had long artificial nails on her fingers.
Her lips were gleaming with lipstick and she stood confident in heels. Two big luggage were beside her and her expression changed into that of exhilaration as she saw Lac.
“Lac!” She declared happily as she threw herself into his arms.
Lac did not return the gesture. He stood still then watched as she pulled away from him immediately. “What are you doing here, Vera?”
Her oval-shaped face lit up with a bright smile. “Is that how to welcome a guest?”
Lac’s expression was neutral. “What are you doing here, Vera?” He questioned, his tone becoming more serious.
Vera hesitated, her eyes fixed on Lac. “I am here to see you. I've missed you.”
“Is this a joke?” Lac inquired incredulously.
“Babe,” She let out softly, reaching her hand to his tie. Lac shot her a warning look and she quickly lowered her hand to her side. “Are you serious right now? You don't miss me?”
Lac stared at her, a hint of indifference in his eyes. “I cautioned you over the phone not to try bullshit with me, did you think I was joking?”
She stopped forward, her eyes gleaming with defiance. “I know you told me to stay away and all that but I can't obey you…The contract is still on and trust me, I've to do my part as your bride-to-be.”
Lac furrowed his brows slightly, processing her words. “What are you saying?”
“We signed a contract to drive years ago, lac. Have you forgotten?” She asked.
Lac’s expression remained unreadable. “You tore that contract years back so why are you bringing it up now? Did you get amnesia or something?”
“Oh, baby. You're so oblivious to important things.” She said to herself, her tone barely a whisper. “I admit I tore the papers then but I'm sensible now, lac. I'm in love with you…
Lac raised his hand, a flicker of disgust crossing his face. “Get out of here before my men handle you in a way you won't like.”
“I know you are not willing to listen to anything I want to say but luckily for me,” She stated then bent over her luggage. As she unzipped it, she pulled out a file and handed it over to Nico. “Your signature is on those papers and we’re legally in an arranged marriage.”
Lac’s eyes narrowed slightly. He turned his gaze to Nico who pulled out a paper from the file. Nico read the content then shifted his gaze to Lac, their eyes met and Nico nodded his head slightly.
Lac took the paper from him and then read the content. Vera was right. His signature and name were on the paper.
He recollected that when his grandfather wanted to strengthen the Jackson empire. He proposed the idea of a marriage arrangement with one of the dangerous families in Greece, the Ozias’s.
Vera Ozias is the only daughter of Dair Ozias, a man who values money and connections to relations. He was eager to get his daughter married to lac five years ago, since the arranged marriages would also benefit his business but Vera was not interested then.
Giovanni made Lac sign the paper and when it was time for Vera to sign hers, she tore it. Since then Lac did not rely on anyone to strengthen his empire. He'd been working hard and late every day to build his empire to be the highest and it was. His hard work was a success.
“This was years back, Vera. You were not interested, why now?” Lac questioned, handing the paper back to Nico.
Vera beamed sweetly. “You could say I've fallen in love, Lac. I was ignorant then and believe me, I got jealous when I heard that you now have a mistress. I mean, why would you need a mistress when I'm here?”
“Leave her out of this and enjoy your stay for the time being. I'm sending you back to Greece soon.” Lac answered back firmly.
“Unfortunately for your mistress, I'm not going to Greece anytime soon. I'm fact,” She grabbed the handle of her luggage firmly. “I’m here to stay.”
“I have changed my mind,” Lac replied, shoving his hands into his pockets. “You are not allowed to enter this house.”
“What?”
“Boss,” Nico called, then leaned closer to Lac, whispering into his ear. “We can't just send her away. She has a valid contract, if your signature was not on the paper, we could have sent her away but we can't. If we don't fulfill our part, it might affect our reputation.”
Lac’s expression turned cold as Nico shifted away from him. “Mention what you want, Vera. I can sign a check off in your name or whatever you want, just say it.”
