Chapter 75 Dr Reese Must Be Saved!
Chapter 75 Dr Reese Must Be Saved!
Marcus Pov
The moment I pushed the door open, the smell of blood and medicine rushed into my nose. The private treatment room inside the jet was brightly lit, yet it felt strangely cold. Machines surrounded the bed in the middle of the room, their lights blinking as soft beeping sounds echoed through the room.
Two nurses moved around the bed with tense faces, while the doctor who had led me in stood beside them, checking the numbers on the monitor.
The moment my eyes fell on the man lying in the bed, my footsteps stopped instantly. For a moment, I simply looked at him.
His chest rose and fell so weakly that if I didn’t look carefully, I’d think he had stopped breathing.
Without saying a word, I walked over. But the closer I got, the tighter my chest became.
My hand reached for the blanket that covered him, and with one pull, I swept it aside. Instantly, James’s face came into view.
My fingers froze.
His face was so pale that not even a trace of color remained. Dried blood stained one side of his forehead, while blood soaked through the bandages wrapped around his chest.
My brows furrowed unconsciously as my eyes trailed down to his lips, which had turned dry and pale. Even his fingers had lost all their strength. They lay quietly by his side without moving at all.
This—
My jaw tightened.
The James I knew had never looked this battered.
Every time I saw him, he was either buried in research, his eyes shining brilliantly, or he was moving around soldiers, attending to their wounds with a calm smile.
Even after staying awake for days, he would still smile and tell everyone he was fine. He worked for the country and volunteered to lead many dangerous research projects. Yet now… he was the one lying here between life and death.
If only I had found him sooner…
The room suddenly became much quieter. Even the sounds of the machines seemed strangely distant. I stared at his face, and countless memories flashed across my mind. They came one after another until his weak face slowly disappeared from my sight.
James sitting in front of me as he denied my help, saying he didn’t want to implicate me. James sitting in front of me, his face serious as he whispered, his voice low but pleading.
“…Master, please, as long as you can take care of my daughter, then I wouldn’t need anything more.”
Back then, I had responded that only he could take better care of his daughter, so he had to come back safely. But what had James said then?
His laughter echoed in my head.
“Master Marcus, I have worked for the government and given my all to the people. They wouldn’t be that heartless as to kill me.”
My eyes slowly darkened, and the hand hanging beside me curled into a fist. My fingers tightened until my knuckles turned white.
The country…
I sneered as my eyes slowly became darker.
Wasn’t it the same people he spent years protecting who were trying to kill him?
A cold feeling spread through my chest. Slowly, my expression turned colder.
If anyone dared touch the people under my protection again… I would make them regret ever being born.
The beast inside me stirred. It slammed heavily against the restraint inside my body.
Blood… kill… destroy!
It kept roaring inside my head, trying to pull me into its madness.
A sharp pain shot through my chest, and it made my eyes turn red. My fingers twitched once, but I quietly bit the inside of my cheek.
As the taste of blood spread across my tongue, the beast inside me became slightly quieter.
I breathed heavily as I tried to regulate my heartbeat. Then slowly, I forced every breath to become steady again.
No. Not now.
Moments later, I slowly let out a breath before turning toward the doctor.
His forehead was already covered in sweat, even his hands were trembling from exhaustion but his hands never stopped moving as he checked James’s pulse before looking at another machine.
I watched him silently for a second, then—
“Speak.”
My voice sounded colder than I expected, but I didn’t care.
Without looking away from James, the doctor answered quickly.
“Master… Dr. Reese lost too much blood before we got him here.” He adjusted the oxygen mask before continuing. “We have stopped the external bleeding, but there are still injuries inside his body. I think he was tortured terribly, and this caused his body to go into shock.”
My brows slowly drew together.
“He hasn’t regained consciousness even once.” The doctor’s voice became heavier. “His will to survive is becoming weaker.”
Silence filled the room.
The words echoed inside my head, and my lips pursed tightly.
His will to survive…
No!
James wasn’t the type to give up. Besides, he knew Elena was waiting for him, so he wouldn’t give up!
I looked at the unconscious man again, then turned to the doctor.
“You’ll save him.” My voice left no room for refusal.
The doctor’s eyes widened. He immediately straightened.
“Master…”
I didn’t answer him. Instead, I continued.
“You’ll do everything to save him.”
I finally looked directly into his eyes, my face serious, my eyes dark and cold, leaving no room for argument or failure.
“I don’t care what method you use. But you just have to bring him back alive.”
The doctor met my gaze for a second before lowering his head. His expression became firm.
“I understand.” He took a deep breath. “Master… Dr. Reese is the reason I became a doctor. He is my idol.”
His eyes became slightly red, but he quickly looked away. His voice softened slightly.
“He taught me more than anyone else. So…” his fists slowly tightened, “I won’t let him die!”
I gave a silent nod. For the first time since entering the room… a tiny bit of the pressure inside my chest eased.
For one brief moment, the room became completely quiet. Then—
Beep…
A strange sound echoed through the room. The doctor’s head snapped toward the monitor, and my eyes also followed.
The green line on the screen suddenly began to dip. Everyone’s eyes followed it as it slowly dropped lower.
Beep…
The nurse beside James frowned.
“…Doctor?”
Then another sound came. This time it was slower, but the sound rang sharply in my ears.
The doctor’s face changed instantly.
“No. No. No…”
His eyes widened as he yelled, “Nurse, check his pulse!”
One of the nurses rushed forward, her fingers pressing against James’s neck.
A second later… her face turned pale. She looked toward me, then the doctor.
“Doctor…” her voice shook. “His pulse is dropping!”
My heart suddenly sank.
The room exploded into chaos.
(I'm so sorry for the delay. My family had to seize my writing gadgets so I could recover properly. But I'm glad I am back now. Please expect more chapters. I promise I won't fail y’all again. ❤️)
