Van's POV
I walked swiftly with the bouquet of roses. I don't know why I bought them. Marion is probably going to have a hissy fit. But maybe.... just maybe I was hoping to bump into Len. I could gp visit him.... but I would have to face everything. Right then and there. And I'm not ready. I turned a corner and someone bumped into me. Since they were on crutches I made sure they wouldn't fall. My eyes widen when I realized it was Len.
We stared at each other for a while. Then he looked away.
Arrow, straight in the heart.
I smiled sadly and started to walk past him. But I slipped a rose in his hair before leaving and turned another corner to go to Marion's room.
"You look dazed." she said when I walked in and I ignored her while sitting down in a chair next to her bed. "Who are those roses for?" she asked.
"You." I said and she sighed taking them.
"Get over me." she said and I just whistled.
"Guess your alright, better get going." I said getting up and turned away.
"Van." she laughed.
"Hm?" I said not looking at her.
"Eleven roses? I always thought their should be twelve." she said and I hummed opening the door.
"You gave one to Len, didn't you?" she asked and I glanced at her.
"Yes, get better soon." I said and closed the door behind me to find a little boy outside the door staring at me.
I blinked and the boy blinked back. I looked around but no nurses were close by or any adults at all. I looked back at the boy,
"Shouldn't you be in bed?" I asked and he only blinked at me. I squat down in front of him. "Are you lost?" I asked and he nodded slowly.
"Lost." he said and I stood up taking his hand.
"Come on, let's go try to find your room or parents." I said and he nodded.
"Mommy says people make mistakes." he said as I walked him down the halls and I nodded.
"Yeah, people do." I said.
"Mommy says we shouldn't hate people because of the mistakes they did. She says people can change. People aren't perfect and to let people have a chance to do what's right." he said and I nodded again as we turned a corner.
"Yeah, people should have chances. Some people learn faster than others and some don't." I said as I realized we were at the front doors.
"Mommy said I was a mistake and leaving me was fixing the mistake she did so she could have another chance at life." he said and I opened my mouth but closed it. "Mommy said daddy would take care of me. But daddy was mad at me for making mommy leave." he looked up at me. "I didn't mean to be a mistake and make daddy mad. I wish I could have a chance." he said and I frowned as he let go of my hand and opened the doors.
"Wha-What are you doing?" I asked trying to reach out for him but when he went outside it was like out there, it was glowing.
"Bye bye mister." he said jumping off the steps and I pushed the door open to reach out and grab him.
No.... not again. Please let me save someone.
I felt something warm. I opened my eyes and looked down in my arms. The boy was breathing hard and looked up at me, his blue eyes, blue as the sky and sea.
"Don't ever do that again." I said and the little boy nodded.
****
The little boy walked me all over the hospital to look for his room. I was getting very weary but finally he stopped at a door.
"Here's my room." he said pointing at the door and I nodded.
His little hand reached for the door knob and he turned it a bit. He stood on his tippy toes turning it all the way. The door opened and we walked in. He went ahead as I stood in the doorway. He looked at me and waved me over. I closed the door softly behind me and walked over. He pulled the curtain open and my eyes widen.
"Len?" I asked and Len looked up from a book he was reading.
"Va-Van." he said then glanced at the little boy by me. "Who's the little one?" he asked and I looked at the little boy.
"I don't have a name." he said and Len frowned.
"How come?" he asked and the little boy shrugged.
"Mommy never gave me one." he said.
"I'll give you one then." Len said smiling and I glanced at him then the boy.
"Len you can't, his parents might be here." I said and he frowned.
"Then where are they now and haven't named him?" he asked and I didn't really have an answer.
"Len? Len can name me." the boy said smiling at me.
"Okay.... but I'm going to talk to the nurses about... him." I said softly and Len nodded. "Also what happened to the other room you were in?" I asked.
"Oh, they moved me so I could bw on the first floor." he sighed. "They said I shouldn't be walking around too much." he said and I nodded, glancing at the little boy running around.
Then I looked at Len. The rose was on a desk near the bed. I guess I was staring at thr rose for longer than I thought.
"O-Oh um I don't have a vase for it." Len said and I nodded smiling.
"Oooh rose." the little boy said about to pick it up.
"Careful, thorns." Len said getting the rose and the boy nodded.
"Are you too together?" the little boy asked and Len flushed while I blinked.
"N-" Len started to say.
"I don't know, he's in the hospital right now." I said and Len looked at me blushing more with wide eyes. "Maybe I'll take him on a date when he's better." I said smiling and Len stared at me.
"Can I go?" the little boy asked and I laughed.
"It's not a date if you go but sure." I said.
"Yaaaaaay!" the boy said jumping around smiling.
