Lenny's POV
I dressed fancy tonight because Van said this place was also where we would be eating dinner while watching the play. Sammie and Vincent we're happy as ever like normally. Van drove us all there and our table was on the balcony. While Van went to the bathroom the boys looked at me smirking. Damn Vincent has rubbed off on Sammie. I groaned rolling my eyes.
"What is it?" I grumbled.
"I think you and dad are pretty clooose." Vincent said and I rolled my eyes.
"So you don't care about the relationship between your mother and him." I said and Sammie gulped as Vincent sighed smiling sadly.
"Mom isn't around, it's kinda lousy of a parent to just leave... especially the mother." he said playing with his tie.
I felt bad instantly of bringing it up.
"I'm sorry." I said sighing and looked in the empty wine glass before me.
Full with air. But people would say it's empty. But it's not. It's filled with something you can't see. And that's what I believe.
"It's okay Lenny. I'm focusing on you." he said and I blinked.
"Why me?" I asked and he laughed as Sammie shook his head smiling.
"Lenny your just like-" Sammie started.
"My dad." Vincent finished laughing and I tilted my head to the side. "You both are always trying to help others and putting yourself to the side mostly. And whenever there's a chance people are trying to help you. You try to hide it away, what your feeling." he said and I shook my head.
"Their is no reason to focus on me I'm just trying to help Van." I said smiling but Vincent was glaring at me.
"You like to hurt yourself." he said and Sammie nudged him.
"Maybe I do." I said shrugging.
I don't. I'm pushing it all away for Van. I need to be there for Van. My feelings aren't important.
I looked back at the wine glass. It's clear, so you can see through it. It can be easily filled with anything. But it is always filled with something.
"I'm back, sorry." Van said sitting next to me and I smiled.
"It's okay." I said and he smiled back.
****
When our food came the boys we're eating like it was their first meal in a month. I rolled my eyes smiling and started eating my steak.
"Len." Van said.
"Hmmm?" I said chewing and he smiled leaning forward.
I flushed and froze there wide eyed. I closed my eyes and felt his thumb touch the corner of my mouth. I opened my eyes blushing more.
"You had sauce on the side of your mouth." he said laughing and Sammie smirked at me while Vincent wiggled his eyebrows making me turn red and I groaned sliding down in my seat.
"No need to be embarrassed." Van said chuckling and I just grumbled more as the lights started to dim.
I looked up and around. I guess the play was finally going to start. I sat up straight as the lights started to dim more. Eventually I couldn't see Vincent or Sammie. And barely see my own hand. I looked over to my right where Van was and could barely see him. But I could make out a feature or two of him.
"It's dark." I heard Sammie whisper.
"No shit babe." Vincent chuckled.
"Len?" Van whispered and I shivered.
UGH, do not shiver because he whispered your name. Damn Len get yourself together.
"Yeah?" I said turning to look at him and froze.
Face to face. I'm glad it was dark because I know my face was completely red. I gulped wanting to lean back but I was frozen in place.
"Oh, there you are." he said and I heard shuffling, I guess he scooted back from me.
Eventually a light turned on. A dim shallow light and it was casted on curtains. The curtains flung open and we saw a girl running around on stage smiling.
A play is like life. We all have parts we're supposed to play. And as soon as the curtains close and your all alone. You don't have to play that role that everyone thinks that's who you are. Off stage is when your you.
I guess I was in my own world because next thing I know the girl is a teenager. She was in a forest hanging out with a guy. I sipped some of the wine in my cup.
'But Richard!' the girl cried as he told her he was going to get married.
Ha, so familiar. Right Van?
I smiled sadly and turned to look at Van. My eyes widen at the sight. Van's eyes were glassy. Was he.... is he going to cry? I looked away quickly not sure what to do. I looked back at the people on stage.
'Why shouldn't I marry her Rita?!' the guy said walking up to the girl.
'Because.... Because....' the girl looked away then smiled. 'I'm sorry I'm just afraid you'll forget me. I hope you have a happy wedding.' the girl said turning away and ran.
The guy stood there confused. But did he go after her? Of course not. He just walked the other way.
I glanced at Van and didn't see his face now. I frowned and looked back at the stage. It was the wedding day. The girl was deciding to go in or not. And she did go in. The guy was surprised but glad to see her. The girl smiled at him and took a seat. At the toast the girl raised up her glass.
'Richard I've always loved you.' she said and the guy's eyes widen.
'Rit-' he started.
'Enjoy your marriage, cheers!' she said and next thing I know the guy kisses her.
My eyes widen as the bride huffs and grabs the guy away from the girl.
'You're my husband!' the bride yelled.
'Well do you object?' the guy asked turning to the girl and the girl smiled.
'I object.' she said.
I blinked and when I turned to look at Van. He was smiling and turned to me.
"This is very familiar." he said and my eyes widen.
"Wha-What do you mean?" I asked as I heard clapping, meaning the play was over.
The lights turned back on. Van was grinning and I glanced over to the boys. They were asleep.
"Vincent wake up." Van said getting up and slapped him lightly.
Vincent groaned opening his eyes. Then he wiped drool from his mouth. Vincent shook Sammie. But Sammie just turned away. So Vincent carried Sammie as we all walked to the car. Van dropped those two at his house I guess then he drove us back to mine. As soon as we got inside I went straight to my room to change into comfortable clothing. Van chuckled shaking his head looking at me laid out on my bed.
"Ahh home sweet home." I said smiling.
Van looked around a bit smiling. Then he leaned on the doorway.
"Home sweet home." he said and I sat up tilting my head.
"What do you mean?" I laughed awkwardly. "This is my home." I said.
"Speaking of your home, I'm thinking about going back to live with Vincent." he said and I frowned instantly.
"Oh." I said.
"Oh?" he asked raising an eyebrow.
"I mean good." I said fake smiling.
"Just say it." he said and I blinked.
"Say what?" I asked.
"Say what you want to say." he said and I looked down.
I want you to stay.
