Chapter 59 Trying to forget him
LISA
Tana had dragged me to the bar, and now we were standing in front of it. I had tried to talk my way out of coming out and coming to this bar with Tana but she was having none of it. She insisted I
had to come here, to party, to socialize to get him out of my mind.
I was starting to think that might not be possible, getting him out of my mind, I mean.
"Come on, babe, what's that look on your face?" She asked me when I was only looking at the entrance of the bar and not making an attempt to enter.
"What look?" I asked, feigning innocence.
"That sad, wistful expression. Come on, Lisa. We came out here to forget about everything and just have a good time. "And you're a badass, pretty, smoking hot and sophisticated girl. I don't see why
you're stressing over him when you can easily get any man that you want."
Yeah, I could but none of them were Axel. But Tana was somehow right. Maybe all I need is a distraction, and that won't be difficult, especially since I was already receiving glances from some people who walked past us. I was currently in a
tight nude dress that Tana insisted I wear. The dress hugged my body perfectly and stopped just below my ass. I knew I looked hot and was giving these people a perfect view of my curves and
long
legs.
Maybe this was just the distraction I needed.
Plastering a charming smile on my face, I grabbed Tana's arm as we made our way into the bar.
"That's more like it," she hailed.
The bar was fully packed as we walked in. The blasting music wafts through my ears as I take notice of the sweaty bodies grinding against each other. We look for a booth to occupy, and my eye spots
a booth that I think is perfect.
I grabbed Tana's arm as we made our way toward the booth.
"Where are you going?" Tana shouted over the music.
"To go and sit of course."
"There?" She pointed in disdain at the booth I was heading to, "there's no way in this world we'd go and sit there. It's in a corner and no one would notice us there. We have to sit in the middle to be the
center of attraction."
I sighed deeply as I let her drag me to the booth she deemed perfect. We sat down and made ourselves comfortable. A bartender came and asked for our order. Tana ordered a Margarita, and I
ordered a Sex On The Beach.
Maybe this was the perfect distraction I desperately needed. Our order hadn't even arrived yet when some random guy came to take the seat beside me. I inwardly groaned. I didn't have the energy to entertain any man and I didn't even want to talk to any man.
"What's your name, beautiful?" The man said I didn't turn to look at him. I knew he was talking to me, but there was no rule saying I had to respond to anyone who talked to me, and besides, who start
a conversation that way?
"She's Lisa," she said in her normal cheerful voice, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"Well, Lisa. "Do you want to dance?" What the fuck? I clearly ignored him when he asked for my name and he straight up jumped into asking me if I wanted to dance. Were men this senseless or was this man just a grade-A dumb bitch?
I ignored the hell out of him while Tana was giving me major bitch eyes that I ignored too. The bartender arrived with our drinks at that moment so I distracted myself with them. The familiar taste of the chilled drink kissed my tongue and ran down my throat. This was bliss. By the time I turned again, the random guy had left. Thank God!
Tana was currently talking to a guy. She was smiling broadly and leaning into him. Must be good for her, I thought. She was having a good time and I was sulking over a man I couldn't have. I focused on sipping my drink and shaking my shoulders to the music while ignoring all the guys who came to talk to me. The fact that a girl was on her own in the bar didn't immediately mean that she wanted a guy to talk to her. That might have been the initial plan for me, but I just couldn't bring myself to talk to any guy, especially since all of them were just making sexual comments and
innuendos. I never take any of the men seriously, never thought I'd until Axel, the least and last man I was supposed to take seriously.
Oh, Axel, what have you done to me?
A nudge on my arm interrupted my thoughts. It was Tana, and she didn't look pleased.
"Won't you at least talk to any of the guys? You came here to socialize, not to sulk about one loser."
"I've not seen any man that interests me," I answered sourly.
"Then, fake an interest in them or something, you badly need this distraction if you want to get over him. You can't keep being heartbroken.
I wanted to tell her that I wasn't heartbroken. Heartbreak happens to people who are in love with each other. I just missed the sex with him, that's all.
Keep lying to yourself! My conscience mocked.
Instead, I took Tana's advice and put a small smile on my face when another guy approached me.
"Hey beauties, can I get the honor of taking the seat beside these beauties?"
Tana giggled despite talking to another guy and the new guy saw it as an opportunity to slip into the seat. He sat beside me.
"I'm Dan," he introduced himself, stretching out his hand for a brief handshake for me.
"Lisa," I said, taking his hand.
"Oh, I already know that."
"Really? "You know me?"
"Doesn't the whole school do? You became the talk of the town after you whooped Axel's ass in that car racing months ago."
Again, Axel had to find a way to come up in a conversation I was having to forget him. I felt a pang in my chest and I tried to ignore it.
"Ohhh, I wasn't paying attention to that."
"So where'd you learn how to race like that? The way you beat him was so unbelievable. It was surreal."
"Why should that even be a question?" I cocked my eyebrows at him, "I bet no one ever asked Axel where he learned to race like that."
I expected him to get offended at my question or stutter in a bid to defend himself like other guys, but he just laughed.
"No, I don't mean to know it that way," he responded calmly, "It's just unusual to see a girl beat a guy at a sport that's dominated mostly by men."
His reasoning made sense, and I found myself enjoying the conversation.
"My father taught me a lot of things that some people don't consider girly. How to drive like a pro, race horses, and fight to some extent."
I didn't mention the fact that my father also taught me how to shoot a gun, how to spy and hunt down targets, how to kill...
"Your father is really cool," he said, and I almost snorted. My father is a ruthless killer and a feared man. I'm sure Dan wouldn't find that "cool." But to keep the conversation going, I just agreed with
him.
"If I have a daughter someday, I'm going to teach her how to defend herself from dangerous men that roam around."
"That's necessary. How many kids do you want to have?"
"Maybe two. A boy and a girl. You?"
"I don't know yet." I've never thought about it," And I've never done it. Bringing a child into the type of world I was living in would be a horrendous crime.
The song changed to an upbeat pop song, and Dan smiled at me.
"Wanna dance?" He said he was offering me his hand. I hesitated. Sure, talking to him was fun, but I wasn't sure I wanted to dance with him.
"Yes, she'll dance, she loves to dance," Tana interrupted when it became obvious that I was hesitating. I glared at her but she was only trying to distract me and I was glad for that.
Without thinking too much about it, I took his hands, and he led me to the dance floor. The song was a sensual one, one where all the dancers on the dance floor were grinding against each other and
I had no option but to do that too, grind against Dan.
My back had barely come into contact with his back when a force yanked him away from me and all my air left my lungs as I turned around to see Axel looking at me.
And he looked pissed, royally pissed.
What was he doing here and why the hell did he yank Dan away from me? But despite the irrationality of him being here, my heart wouldn't stop pounding loudly at his sight. It had been just three days
but it did feel like three years without him.
"What the fuck is your problem, buddy?" Dan yelled at Axel who was still looking at me and not acknowledging Dan's presence at all. When it became obvious that he wasn't going to answer him, Dan
shoved at him angrily and that got his attention.
Before I could decipher what was going on, Axel's fist swung and connected with Dan's face, knocking him out cold in the process.
