Laura
“I don’t want anything from you, but Anne wants you to come to dinner with us,” said my ex-husband’s voice.
My throat suddenly felt dry, and I lost the ability to speak for a few moments. So Jason was with Annie? Was he the one who had picked up my daughter from daycare? Why would he do such a thing? Fear began to grip me as my heart beat hard and fast in my rib cage.
“Have you realized that I know the whole truth now, Laura?” He asked calmly, yet terribly accusingly.
“What do you mean?” I stammered, unable to think of anything coherent. I was taken by surprise, in a million years, I would have never thought Jason would find out the truth this way.
“Did you think you were going to hide her forever? Know that yo plan wasn’t going to work, Laura. You separated me from her damn years, so now it’s my turn to be with her,” he said low and harshly, low because it seemed like he didn’t want Anne to hear t
harsh words.
“What are you talking about? Please give my daughter back,” I asked tears already in my eyes. I was scared to death. Jason was too powerful and influential-so influential that if he wanted to take my daughter away from me, he would succeed. “The girl is only five years old, please don’t do this psychological terror to her. Just leave her alone!”
“Psychological terror? What do you think I am? A monster?” He asked, clicking his tongue. “Do you want to talk to your mother, my sweetie?”
“Yes, please,” I heard my daughter’s voice respond. My heart sank
with anguish when I heard her voice. “Hello, Mommy,” said Anne.

“Oh, my love. Mommy is so happy to hear your voice,” I said, trying not to cry so as not to make her worried or afraid.
“I miss you, Mommy. Can you come have dinner with us?” She asked, and I wiped my tears.
“Are you okay, my love? Aren’t you hurt? Don’t be scared, okay? Mommy is already coming to you,” I said to her.
“It’s okay, Mommy. Annie loves you,” she said, making me smile. through the tears.
“Mommy also loves Annie very much,” I said to her, my voice
cracking.
“Now that you know she’s okay, could you come here so we can have dinner in peace?” Jason was now saying.
“Just send me the address,” I said, heading to the elevator of the building where the Jacksons lived.
“I’ll send it to you via message. Make sure you don’t take too long because the food might get cold,” he said, and then the cell phone went silent, indicating that he had turned it off.
“Wait, Jason? Hello!” I tried to call him, but it was too late, as he had
already hung up.
I cursed angrily, almost throwing my cell phone at the elevator wall. How the hell had Jason learned that Anne was his legitimate daughter? Did Terence or Ava end up telling him? That was very unlikely since if it had been Terence or Ava, they wouldn’t have let me spend the whole afternoon looking for my daughter as desperately as if I were crazy, so he ended up finding out on his own. But how? As far as I knew, Jason thought Anne was Richard’s daughter, everything was going so well, but why did he have to find out now?

Not wanting to think about anything else, I just took the first taxi that appeared in front of me and went to the hotel where Jason was with my daughter. It was easy for me to get in there because Jason had already notified reception that I was on my way, so I quickly went up to the floor where he was and anxiously rang the bell. Jason opened the door for me.
He was wearing a black dress shirt with the sleeves pulled up to his elbows and black dress pants. He didn’t smile at me when he looked at me, he just made room for me to pass.
“Annie? Mommy’s here, honey!” I called for my daughter as soon as I entered the apartment.
“Mommy!” She called my daughter, running towards me with a big
smile on her face, and then I could hug her like I wanted so much.
“I missed you so much, my little princess. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault… I love you so much.” I was crying as I said those words, unable to hold myself back. Furthermore, I was feeling so ter mean, it was all my fault, my daughter didn’t need to go throug
“There’s no need to cry, mommy. I’m fine; I’m glad you’re here; I’n happy,” she said, moving her face back a little so she could loo me and wipe my tears. “I’ve only been with my daddy. Do you kn him? He’s my daddy!” She pointed to Jason, who had his arms
crossed over his chest as he looked at me and Anne.
I sighed and hugged my daughter even more. “What do you want, Jason? Why are you doing this? Why didn’t you call me sooner?” | asked fearfully.
I saw him sighing as if he were bored. “Stop clowning around, Laura. Don’t make a scene, I only let you come here because Annie needs to eat, so cooperate,” he said, being cold to me, and went to the table. Of course, he was cold, after all, he had just discovered that I had hidden

this big secret.
“Daddy ordered apple pie for dessert,” Annie said, showing the appetizing-looking dinner table.
I sniffled and fixed my hair. “Of course, daughter. Let’s eat then,” I said, getting up from the floor and going to the table with her.
Moments later, I was sitting at that table while watching Jason and Annie’s interaction in amazement. They talked and spoke to each other as openly as if they had known each other for a long time. I knew that my daughter was not shy and was quite talkative, but I did not know that she would get along so well with Jason since he was practically a stranger to her.
also noticed that Jason was ignoring me. I was trying to say something, but only my daughter responded, and he only spoke to Annie. Maybe he hated me now, but didn’t care, I just wanted my daughter to be safe.
“Finish your dessert because it’s already late, daughter. We have home,” I said to Anne, who nodded and continued eating her ap obediently.
“There’s no need for you to go home today; the weather isn’t good enough to expose Annie outside; she could get sick. So you can st here overnight,” Jason said, making me look at him.
“I appreciate your concern for my daughter,” I said, making it clear when I said my daughter, “but we have to go home, we don’t want to abuse your hospitality.”
Jason sighed, got up from his chair, and went to a nearby window, pulling back the curtain and revealing that it was snowing outside. ” I’m not worried about your health or your safety, Laura. I’m worried about my daughter,” he said, also emphasizing when he said, my daughter. “I’m not going to let Annie leave this place while it’s below
freezing outside. So if you want to go home, you go, but go alone.
