Chapter 89
Isadora's POV.
As Golem was swept up by the revelry, I couldn't shake the feeling of isolation and sadness as I dragged my feet up the stairs to my room, I gazed at the bed, longing for solace.
But before I could even take a step toward it, strong arms enveloped me from behind, a hand covering my mouth to stifle any screams. Panic surged through me as a voice whispered urgently in my ear, "Don't scream, Isadora, please."
My heart pounded against my chest, fear gripping me as I struggled against the grip. Who was behind me, and what did they want?
The voice repeated again, and this time, it sent a jolt of surprise down my spine by its familiarity. The scent, the tone—it couldn't be anyone else.
The grip loosened, and I slowly turned around to set eyes on Eamon. Panic surged through me as I struggled against his hold, attempting to scream, but he covered my mouth just in time, pleading with desperation in his eyes.
"Isadora, come on now," he urged, "we are both adults here, and we both know I didn't come here to hurt you or anyone. Just give me a few minutes of your time."
As he released his grip, I glared at him, my heart pounding with a mix of anger and fear. "I don't have any time to give to you," I snapped. "You are nothing and completely irrelevant to me."
"Isadora, please," he begged, sinking to his knees. "It would only take five minutes of your time."
I held his gaze with a look of disdain. "Fine," I relented. "You only have two minutes. Say whatever rubbish you came here to say and get the hell out before my mate comes and catches you. Trust me when I say you'll be toast."
Eamon's smile widened at my ultimatum his confidence unshaken. "Isadora, you already know I'm not scared of death. But that's not the reason why I'm here. Needless to say, thank you for giving me the opportunity," he responded, his tone oddly serene.
Rolling my eyes in exasperation, I thundered, "You've only got one minute left". My tone was sharp and impatient.
Eamon's expression softened, and he took a deep breath before speaking, "Isadora, I know I've made mistakes. I know I've hurt you in ways I can never fully comprehend. But I'm here to make things right, to apologize sincerely, and to ask for your forgiveness."
Eamon's expression softened as he took a deep breath, his voice carrying a tone of sincerity. "Isadora, I know I have hurt you in more ways than one, but I want you to know that I'm a completely different person from the man you used to know in the past. Please forgive me, my love. Come back to my life."
"That will never happen," I retorted.
Eamon took a step closer, trying to bridge the gap between us, but I instinctively backed away, increasing the distance. He continued to plead, his voice filled with desperation. "I know you won't believe me, Isadora, but I've really changed. I no longer care about the money, the power, the titles, or position. Everything can go to hell for all I care. Ever since that battle we had in the West, I realized how empty I was. I realized I had nothing left to fight for in life. I felt a void within me, a void that only you can fill up. All this while, my whole life has been a lie, and you were the only truth I ever had. Please, Isadora, have mercy upon me. I'm really a different person now."
I looked at him, feeling a flicker of sincerity in his eyes, but I remained guarded. Whether he was telling the truth or not, I didn't care. My only concern was getting him out of there before Golem joined me in the bedroom.
"Fine, I forgive you. You can leave now," I said hastily, my tone impatient.
But Eamon persisted, his voice pleading for another chance. "Isadora, is there any chance that you'll reject this guy and come back to me?"
"Never!" I exclaimed, cutting him off before he could finish his sentence.
He pleaded further, his desperation evident. "Isadora, please. There has to be a way. You have to give me a chance. I don't mind leaving everything behind for you. I just want to get away from here and rediscover myself with you by my side."
"Enough already!" I snapped, my patience wearing thin. "There is nothing you can say to me that will make me leave Golem behind and run away with you. Trust me, so stop trying so hard. It's a wasted effort."
Eamon held my gaze, his expression sober as he asked, "Do you really love this guy so much?"
"Yes," I responded firmly.
His voice softened as he asked, "More than the way you used to love me?"
"Yes, much more than I used to love you, Eamon," I replied.
I saw the heartbreak in his eyes, but I didn't falter. I wanted him to feel the pain that he had inflicted upon me. "While you sacrificed my happiness just to please yourself, he's sacrificing his own happiness to please me. You had enough time to fix whatever we had that went wrong, but you didn't. You were too busy trying to be the king of the West. Lisa got kidnapped, and you refused to help. Matamoros gave us the support we needed, and what did you do? You sliced off his arm without remorse. You killed my stepfather over a territorial dispute, you didn't care about how we all used to be as a family, and now you come back here and ask me to give a shit about the past? You must be crazy. To hell with you and the past, Eamon. I have moved on, and I'm having a baby with my new mate. Stay away from me and my family. I have forgiven you, but the only thing you will ever be to me is nothing but a bad memory. I never want to see you again, not now, not ever. Goodbye and good luck, now get the hell out your time is up!"
Eamon stood there, his expression a mix of hurt and resignation. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but no words came out. Instead, he simply nodded, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
He took a step back as if the weight of my words had physically pushed him away. For a moment, silence hung heavy in the air between us, punctuated only by the sound of my ragged breaths and the distant echoes of the party downstairs.
Then, with a sigh, Eamon turned and walked away through the backdoor without another word. I watched him go, feeling a strange mix of relief and sadness wash over me.
As he disappeared from view, I finally allowed myself to breathe again, the tension slowly dissipating from my body. But even as I tried to push aside thoughts of Eamon, his presence lingered like a ghost haunting the corridors of my mind.
I shook my head, trying to clear away the memories that threatened to consume me.
I tried to contain the emotion, but it was overwhelming, I sat on the bed and broke into tears, tears to flush the hurt and pain out of my life once and for all.
