Chapter 170 BORN IN LOVE

Chapter 170 BORN IN LOVE
TIMOTHY

"I am definitely not going to walk down the aisle and entertain guests while my stomach is still as big as this." Nirelle shook her head. I had been convincing her that we had to get married before the babies came, but she refused, and no amount of pleading on my part seemed to convince her even a bit.

"It's going to be a closed wedding and..."

"I already said no, didn't I?" She tilted her head. She had been on edge lately; with the baby on the way, she was getting scared at every concern. What if I did worse things for my kids? Would I also be a bad mother?. Every time I managed to assure her that she was already doing so well, and the babies weren't here yet. Once we had the babies in our hands, then she would feel better.

"But why?"

"Because we are going to have pictures, and I do not want a big belly showing in the images."

"It's going to be a private wedding, so you do not have to..." A painful gasp from her lisp made me stop. I held her arm gently as she began breathing heavily, looking down. My eyes followed hers, and right down there was a pool of water streaming from her legs. "Nirelle?"

"Lucien?" She looked up to me with fear in her eyes. "I think my water just broke." I had been preparing for this moment for too long to go blank the moment I heard those words. My mind travelled so far that it refused to work. I knew I had to be doing something, but my mind could not just decide what it was supposed to be.

"Lucien?" Her voice snapped me back to reality, and I stared at her. "We need to go to the hospital."

"But your due date is not for another week," I murmured as I got out of the chair I had been planted on for the past hour, trying to convince her. "It's not for another..."

"Remember what the doctor said? Since they are twins, they might not...ah!" She groaned, not able to complete the statement. I hold her hands, trying to think. I take out my phone, my hand still squeezed in hers as I dial the doctor's name.

"If her water broke, then you need to come to the hospital so we can monitor her condition." The doctor said, and my throat tightened even more. No matter how much I swallowed trying to clear it, it just got worse and worse.

"Okay, okay," I say, leaving her hand and rushing out. I get the staff to get the car ready while Mara loads the car with the essentials she would need at the hospital. I carry her out and rush. This was the moment we had been preparing for months now, and yet it felt so scary to come face to face with it.

The doctors checked her in, and I could not bear to watch her in such pain. It seemed like the intervals between contractions seemed to lessen. It had been nineteen-plus hours since we got to the hospital, and yet Nirelle wasn't in less pain than when we had arrived. Every time I begged the doctors to take the baby out so she could be free, they just said it was normal for it to be this long for a first-time mom.

"Hello, Mr and Mrs Verlice," a younger doctor came up. Younger than the one who had helped us earlier. "I am..." Her words were cut short by Nirelle's loud and painful-sounding groan.

"Doctor, can you please help her?" I asked her not to worry about what she was called.

"Let 'em see." She pulled out the file and began flipping through it. She frowned and looked up at us and then down at the file again. "It says here that you have been in labour for twenty hours?" she asked, and Nirelle, all sweaty, nodded, heaving loud, heavy breaths.

"And you are a first-time mom?" She asked again as if to be sure. "

"Yes, is there anything wrong?" I ask because the look on her face does not seem encouraging at all.

"I think we might need to take her in for a C-section," I sigh because I had been asking them for it for a long time. I know it sounded selfish, but I hated how much in pain she was trying to deliver our babies.

"Doctor, please..." Nirelle was unable to finish her plea when the groan escaped her lips.

"We would do the c-section," I say without involving her. She tried to stop me, but it was too late; I was already following the doctor to get the documents signed. She did not seem pleased with me, but I did not care; at least the pain was going to stop, and she would be free.

I stayed by her side, holding her hand as they cut her open. By the time they were wrapping up, we already knew. "Congratulations, Mommy, you have two boys."

Tears of joy streamed down my face to hear that. We had two children, twins who are hale and hearty. They go to finish up the cleaning and place both babies on either side of Nirelle's body. I kiss her lips gently and then her forehead. "I am so proud of you," I murmur.

We are moved to the normal ward that I had asked to be prepared, and the babies are in our room. "You do not have to worry about anything; both babies were born healthy," the doctor assured us.

"You just had to win, didn't you?" I murmur as I slide into the chair beside the bed, pushing down her hair as gently as I can.

"I won? Did I?' She narrowed her eyes at me.

"Of course you did win, didn't you?" She shook her head, and we both laughed gently. "How does it feel being a mother?" I ask. She gently lifted her head to the children who were sleeping silently in the cot ahead.

"It feels good; I can't believe I was going to miss out on this joy." She folded her hand and tapped it with two fingers before pushing it into my face. "And how does it feel to be a father now?" she asked. I smiled and held her hand, pretending it was a mic.

"Since you are the one who gave these babies to me, I have to say that it feels pretty awesome."

"Daddy," she said in both a teasing way that made my toes curl and want to kiss her senseless and a way that made me want to assume the responsibilities of being a father to the children.

"Mommy," I murmur, caressing her hair gently.

The door opens, and Theo and Zane walk in with multiple bags. "We heard that the babies came." Theo pushed in, dropping the bags onto the ground and walking straight for the crib. Zane headed to Nirelle instead; after checking her for a few minutes, he headed to the crib, and they both stood there staring at the baby.

"They are so cute, aren't they?" I said smugly.

"Can you believe it?" Theo nudged Zane's ribs with his elbow. "The childish Timothy is now a father."

"I know, right? 'Crazy'," Zane said, but neither of them lifted their heads at any point. "And we are uncles."

"And what makes you both uncles?"

"I am Nirelle's brother, so that makes me automatically an uncle. "I mean, you can't possibly try to take that away from me," he said, and I had not thought it through.

"Well, for me," Theo carried on without allowing me to even turn to him. "I am practically your brother, so..."

"My brother? "How are you, my brother?"

"I did things a brother wouldn't even do for you."

"He is right," Nirelle said faintly from the bed. With the yawn that escaped her mouth, I knew that she was about to sleep very deeply. "He is an uncle."

"Have you both decided on a name yet?" Zane had been bugging us about the name for a month now.

"I want to make sure you both have chosen names that would befit the status of these boys.

"We have," Nirelle chimed in, not wanting to miss out on the conversation.

"What is it?" Theo finally looked up at us. I take Nirelle's hand in mine, and she puts her second hand over it, patting gently.

"Ardian Jaxton and Aiden Jaylen Verlice," I say, and they gasp.

"Beautiful names for beautiful children." I had never seen Theo this mushy before, and even though it was a bit cute to see, it still rubbed me the wrong way. "Welcome to the world, Ardian and Aiden."

"We are going to spoil you, silly."
