CHAPTER 8

CAELON

"Aila!" I was startled when she ran towards me, her face ashen. "What are you doing here?"

Aila trembled as she held upon my coat, her head buried in my chest. She did not reply and so, I urged her to look at me, surprised to see that she is crying. "Did you miss me that much? We just saw each other awhile ago, didn't we?"

She shakes her head and sniffed, "I didn't miss you. It's just that, someone was here before you came."

"What?" I frowned, looking around the empty bedroom. "Who came here, Aila?"

"I don't know him, but, he is stall and he is wearing black coat like you. But it is weird, because his voice is so deep like it is echoing from six feet under and he smells like dead flowers and rotten bodies..." She shivered and my eyes widened at her description.

I took a sniff and confirm her words. Hades came here.

"What did he say to you? Did he hurt you?" I inspected her wrist and her arms but she pulls away and I suddenly felt embarrassed of my actions. Why am I being concerned of a cupid?

"No. He didn't had the chance to, because you came." Aila looked up to me, her cheeks stained with tears, "I am so scared, Caelon, I thought it is going to be my end. He appears so sinister and I can sense how powerful he is."

"He is, but it doesn't matter." I frown and remembered how I was dragged into this plate without my free will. "Did you summon me here? Because I didn't intentionally go here."

"No, I didn't. I only thought of you and the next moment I know, you are there-glaring at me, just like now." I massaged my forehead and tried not to glare at her as I think about the situation further.

She has the ability to summon me now, which means that the connection between us is growing stronger. What Emyr just stated about the prophecy is true. If I failed to recognize this connection and decided to forget about it, Hades will surely come for me. I can already see the dangers that will surround her now that Hades saw who she is and what she is.

I have to take her now.

There will be more time to think about how we can trick Hades but for now, I have to marry her. Not later.

Making my decision, I slipped my hand on hers and tugged on it gently, holding her close.

"What are you doing?" Aila asked in an uneven voice, covering her face her hands. I smirked, my plan unfolding as I summoned the wind.

Her hands skimmed the top of my chest and I couldn't help it. I pushed Aila, earning a little gasp from her. I stared at her eyes and leaned down for a kiss, smiling when she responded with the same passion I have.

This is it. This is the right moment.

I pulled away and whispered, "Marry me."

The sound of harsh breathing is all that can be heard in the small room where I brought the two of us. A little gasp escaped the lips of the beautiful creature that is nestled beneath me.

"What?" she squeaked and I sigh.

"I said, marry me."

Aila couldn't help but look at me. She touched her lips that is numb with all the biting and sucking that I gave her.

She shakes her head and pushed the door open, hastily freeing herself from the small dark room. I followed her out and tugged at her.

"Marry me, Aila."

Aila gasped as she stared at me, unable to hide the blush that clung on her cheeks. Her lips trembled. She was shocked and so was I, though I tried to hide the small tremor that ran through my hands by smiling at her. She looks at the people passing by; some who are curiously eavesdropping, cheered and urged me to go down on my knees but I am not gonna do that.

Not in a thousand years.

Watching her confused expression, I took the opportunity to slip the ring on her finger and pulled her towards the direction of the registry. I stand on guard, alert with the movement of the crowd around us as I expect Hades or Emyr interrupting my plan.

"Wait."

She pulled me back and I turn to face her. She pulled her hands from mine and played with her earring. I sigh, weaving my hands through hers and tugging."Come on, it is almost five in the evening and the registry will be close. We have to do it today, somehow."

Aila nodded at me, removing the earring from her ears. "What are you doing? Are you trying to embarrass me by backing out and llanning to run away? "

"No, I am not backing out, and I am not the one who run away that easily. "

"Then why delay?" I urged her to turn to me, holding her shoulders so that I can look into her eyes. The deep green continue to drown me, making me forget everything I have ever know. I blink. "You need my help, cupid. We benefit each other in this arrangement. You just have to be my wife and perform your duties as one. After your duties, I will help you in finding your parents. It's a win- win, so we must not delay."

She gave me a smile and I glared at her to stop the blush from appearing upon my cheeks. No, I almost showed her how vulnerable I am. Aila held out the ring and I frowned at it.

She rolled her eyes as he takes his hand and whispered, "You're asking me to marriage yet I don't have a ring to give you so I have an alternative," She spread his hand and held out the ring, "Mind if I put it on your finger, Mr. Rouen?"

Aila smirked as she slipped the earring on my ring finger, my heart thudding fast in my chest. "Perfect."

I am stunned as she stared at me.

I never wanted to admit it but as she stands next to me, my chest felt like it is being squeezed. My eyes drifted down and I watched her - noticing how she blushes, her voice caught in her throat while she laughs out loud, rejoicing at her earring on my finger.

The sudden feeling in my chest suddenly felt heavier. I heard it before I felt it - an odd thudding sound echoing inside of me as though something is awakening- like my heart doesn't belong to me anymore and has a mind of its own.

I can't help myself anymore.

I leaned down at her, my chest constricting as I stared at her face, noticing her freckles and how the flecks in her green eyes dance like leaves on a lake during spring. I breathe in her scent before swooping down at her to kiss her lips.

My heart thudded in my chest and I am momentarily stunned. Is this how humans feel when they are in love?

Am I in love?

Her eyes were wide with shock, her mouth fell open with a pop. I slowly gain my composure back, straightening before I whistled to myself, smirking as I rushed down the path to the registry while pulling her close.

"Hey! What did you do that for?

"How long are you going to look at it, Aila?"

"As long as the creatures like us exist here on earth." She answers in a vague tone before pausing. I braced myself but the squeal that followed her answer made me cringe. She's been doing this for the past two hours we arrived at the Rouen Manor and I couldn't help but feel annoyed and proud at the same time.

This cupid has messed me up entirely and I do not know if I should be thankful or not. For the first time in a millennia, my life was now unpredictable and the excitement is incomparable.

I smiled.

"Oh, look at how sweet you are smiling at her. At least, you will die happy." I frowned at the voice and turn to see Emyr walking inside the living room, his golden hair swept, standing in different directions. He looks annoyed and I know why. He glared at Aila who hides behind the sofa. I rolled my eyes at him, "Caelon, you stupid arse. You don't listen to me, do you? You really married her."

I glared at him, "It's my decision and you can't do anything about it." My finger brushed the earring on my left hand and I smiled, "If you cannot accept it then I cannot do anything about it."

"Caeeeeeloooon," Emyr groans as he kneeled in front of me, running his hands through his hair again, making them stick even more. "Why do you this to me, my friend? Why do you choose to leave me like this? You cannot die!"

"Die?" Aila peeked from the sofa, now curious after hearing what Emyr just said. I glared at him and step upon his finger, earning another cry from him. He looks at me with teary eyes and I smirked, "Oh, ignore him, Aila. He is just exaggerating. He just don't want me to be separated from him."

Emyr shakes his head and was about to interrupt but I stepped on his fingers again and he howled in pain. "I know that you are sad, Emyr, and for that I am willing to lend you my great library. You can stay here while me and Aila go to our honeymoon, is that okay?"

"What?" he squeaked in a small voice, his face red. I rise from my seat, and headed over to where Aila is sitting, offering her my hand. "Have you ever been to Japan, Aila?"

She shakes her head and I smiled at her as I let the wind swallow us, leaving Emyr as he cried in anguish.

I know it is hard to accept it, my friend, but you will soon understand.

I have to kill her first before she kills me.
