Chapter 65 Case Closed!
Adrian's POV.
I said nothing until silence reigned among the reporters again.
I tucked my hands in my pockets. “Yes, there was fraud and corruption when my father owned this empire.” I started.
“But things changed, that's Diego Kane and I'm Adrian Kane.” I made the differences clear.
“Someone else took over.”
“I won't be stepping down, it's the empire I've renewed, not the one Diego Kane built on fraud,” I continued.
“If anyone has a problem with me handling this tech company, then they should go to hell.” Again, cameras flashed, the words I had just said getting documented as part of history.
“Rumors have it that I'm still in contact with Cassandra Vale and that my marriage is a fake,” I paused. “That will be cleared online with evidence in thirty minutes time.”
“Thanks for your time.” I bowed slightly then walked away, the reporters voices rising again as they followed me to the car, their questions overlapping each other making it difficult to hear one even though I wasn't planning to reply any.
Guards kept them in place until I got into the car, driving away myself.
I headed back to the house and when I parked the car, Edward rushed over to me, bowing slightly.
“Welcome boss,” he greeted.
“Get the car into the parking lot. I won't be going anywhere else today,” I instructed.
I walked towards the house and my phone beeped, a message from David. “Done, boss.”
I didn't need to check online to confirm, I knew it was just as he had said. He had taken care of it.
Only a few seconds passed before Cassandra called me, further confirming David's claims.
I picked up, ready to have the last conversation of the day with her.
We have been talking quite much in just a few hours and I hate that as much as people hate hell.
“You lied to the public, Adrian!” She said. “You fucking lied to them.”
I stayed calm, listening to her rants. I was so sure she had more to spew and I wasn't wrong about that.
“You came because I called?” She scoffed. “Bullshit!”
“You choked me in my own goddamn house!” She yelled.
I kept walking, taking the first step into the lobby of the house.
“You want to tell the public I'm lying?” I laughed. “Who will believe you anyways? When I have evidence to support my claims and you have nothing.”
Cassandra went silent. I imagined her clenching her fists and tightening her jaws because she felt cornered and helpless at the moment.
Before she could form words to say to me, I spoke again.
“Don't mess with me, Cassandra. You will only get yourself in trouble if you do,” I told her.
“If my marriage is what you want, then give up,” I continued. “That's something you'd never get. It's something way beyond your reach.”
I ended the call. At that moment, I took the first step into the house, my eyes landing on Evelyn before anything else.
It looked like she had been waiting for me. She stood up and moved over to me, her eyes darting between mine for a moment.
I stood frozen, also staring back at her the same way she did to me.
Finally, Evelyn decided to speak. “You did great, Adrian. You cleaned the mess up just fine.”
I chuckled bitterly. “There's nothing great about it.”
“It doesn't stop them from talking, it doesn't stop them from tarnishing my image the same way they had been doing.”
Evelyn went silent, looking like she went deep in thought. When she looked up at me again, I could see the fire of determination burning in her eyes.
“In situations like this, there is only one way to get the public to stop talking about you,” she said.
I became more interested in her talks, giving more attention to her than before.
I listened. I was ready to listen.
“We need to hold a major event to cover it up. I'm sure that will work.” Evelyn said.
She was right. I hadn't thought about that but it was true, a major event could be the only talk in town that would make them forget all about this.
But what major event?
Evelyn was probably reading my mind because she gave a response to the question I had in mind.
“A birthday party,” she said and I squinted my gaze. I wanted her to explain and she did just that.
“My birthday is in four days. Let that be the talk of the town and this would be forgotten.”
I stared at Evelyn with keen interest. I tucked my hands in my pocket and continued staring.
“Why didn't you say your birthday is in four days?” I asked.
She scoffed, taking her face to the side before she turned it back to me.
“You should know since you looked into me,” she said, voice laced with sarcasm. “Why? You didn't keep it in mind because I'm nothing?”
I didn't reply to those words. I was in no mood to have an argument with her.
“You know I'm not interested in you or your affairs,” I said calmly, relaxed. “Why are you willing to use your birthday to cover my scandals up then?”
“Me doing this doesn't mean I'm interested in you,” she retorted. “I'm only trying to protect the reputation of someone publicly known as my husband."
Evelyn Voss will never cease to amaze me. And that was one of the reasons why I had wanted to marry her.
The perfect wife for someone like me. Would be the most perfect wife only if she was a little bit more obedient.
“Have Mira prepare you for the birthday party," I said, voice authoritative. “It will be the talk of the whole city starting from tomorrow.”
“You don't want to mess the party up.”
I walked upstairs, not glancing back to look at her or read the expression on her face.
While I walked, I put a call across to David.
“Pass this message across,” I informed him. “My wife's birthday party will be in four days.”
“I will also be launching a new department in the company. Tell everyone to anticipate,”
With that, the fraud and corruption scandal, coupled with Cassandra's breaking in murder attempt scandal would be closed up.
