Chapter 58 Cecelia's threat

Chapter 58 Cecelia's threat

Evelyn's POV.

She didn't reply to the question immediately. She stared at me for close to five minutes before she threw her head back, finally deciding to give a reply.

“You really don't know why?” She asked
with a smirk on her face.

I didn't reply to her words, I only raised a brow, my facial expression telling her I didn't know and would be listening to what she had to say.

She didn't look remorseful for what she had done and that was making my insides boil with anger.

“Everyone likes Adrian Kane," she said. “Everyone fears him but all ladies are dying to be with him.”

“Do you know how happy I was when he broke up with Cassandra?” Her face was getting darkened.

“So? You tried to kill me because of that?” I blinked in confusion, hoping that had better not be the reason.

That reason was just not enough for someone to think of committing murder.

“Yes,” she yelled, her voice making me shiver for a slight moment. “I was jealous.”

“If I can't have Adrian Kane, then I really don't want anyone else to have him.”

I scoffed at her words, finding it hard to believe that she really poisoned me because of that.

“And what? He's being nice to you?” She laughed. “Everyone hates you for that!”

I shook my head in disbelief. “I thought you were a good person, I was totally mistaken and deceived.”

Once again, she laughed but I was finding nothing funny at the moment.

“A good person?” Cecelia rolled her eyes. “No one is a good person in this world, stop trying to be a saint!” She looked at me, her eyes filled with disgust.

I took a deep breath, trying to swallow my anger before I replied.

Just as I was about to respond, my phone rang.

I checked the screen and it was David's number. I picked up immediately, my eyes fixed on Cecelia as I spoke with him.

“Ma'am,” he said. “The boss wants you to hurry, he said the lunch concert is starting soon.”

I was going to reply with a simple yes but an idea suddenly crossed my mind.

“Tell my husband to call and inform me himself,” I said, my face laced with a smile. “Tell him it's only been a few hours but I miss his voice.”

David didn't say a word. Even though he was not here, I could tell he was surprised.

“Did you hear what I said?” I asked and then his reply came.

“I will make sure to relay the message, ma'am,” he replied and the call ended.

Cecelia's face twitched. That moment, I realized that the smile she had always shown me was laced with nothing but jealousy.

“Do you actually think he loves you?” She asked, her voice cold, words more like whispers. “You think he will call like you had told him to?”

I told David to tell Adrian that to make her more jealous. I didn't know if he would actually call but every part of me hoped that he would.

I couldn't reply to Cecelia's words. I wasn't sure if he would call and I didn't want to give in to defeat by agreeing that he truly doesn't love me.

“Cat got your tongue?” She smirked. “Or too embarrassed to admit that he doesn't love you?”

My fists clenched but she couldn't see it. I didn't let it show on my face that I think she's right.

But she laughed, she could notice the way I blinked my eyes.

“It's just as Cassandra had said. You are just a decorative wife, just sharing the Kanes’ name!”

I gulped so hard but after a second passed, the ringing sound of my phone was heard. It got me startled and I blinked.

The caller ID was Adrian and that got me breathless. He really called?

“That's Adrian?” Cecelia asked and my face snapped to her with a smile.

“Yes,” I said. “it's my husband.”

“You don't think he's calling to scold you?” She laughed. “Don't embarrass yourself further in front of me, just don't pick up.”

Her words got to me and I hesitated for a moment, only staring at the screen, contemplating whether to click the green button or the red.

I picked up, expecting Adrian's voice to come from the other end but all I got was silence. He was waiting for me to speak.

“Put it on speaker,” Cecelia whispered, crossing her legs and placing her cuffed hands on her knees. “I need to hear how he responds to you afterall.”

“Hello, husband,” I said, glad that my voice was not shaky. “David said you had something to tell me.”

“Yes, wifey,” he replied. “I needed to tell you not to spend too much time in a place meant only for criminals.”

“The concert is starting soon, so you should come have some fun,” he added.

I smiled widely and genuinely for the first time since I've gotten here.

“I'll leave here now, let's have some fun together,” I replied.

I ended the call, slowly clicking the red button while making Cecelia watch.

Her face showed how completely angry she was, the way she looked at me poisonous and murderous.

“Why?” I tilted my head. “Do you feel like killing me again?”

Cecelia didn't say a word and I watched as she clenched her jaws.

“Frankly," her voice rose slowly. “Yes”

“I feel like killing you over and over again right now,” she said.

I stood up and grabbed my bag. “Then I really hope you rot in jail.”

I turned, wanting to walk out but her voice stopped me again.

“I won't,” she said, sounding so confident. “My husband will get me out of here”

“I won't end up in jail for a murder that wasn't successful,” she added.

I turned back to look at her. She had a smile on her face and I felt like ripping that smile off her face.

“And when I'm out, I'll make sure this marriage doesn't last long, Mrs. Kane,” she said.
