Chapter 21 The anonymous tip
Adrian’s POV.
I walked to the car but David made me stop in my tracks.
“Boss”
I turned to him with my eyes darkened, no traces of smile visible on my face.
He bowed slightly and I hummed in response, telling him to say what he had to say.
“There is an issue arising online, sir,” he said.
My facial expression remained plain but I didn't stop looking at him.
He brought an iPad out and handed it to me respectfully.
While I looked through the pad, he spoke.
“Someone opened a page online and he won't stop going on and on about wanting to reveal secrets about you.”
I scrolled through the posts under the page but didn't reply to David. I already heard him.
“He's not who he tells you he is!” One of the posts was captioned. “Stay tuned to hear who he is!”
Still, the look on my face didn't change.
I returned the iPad to David who immediately held the car door open for me.
“Find out who that is,” I instructed. “You have only five hours.”
I got into the car and headed to work without another word.
Two hours passed with me stuck behind my desk sorting documents out and approving requests from the various departments in the company.
When it was exactly four hours after the order I gave David, his call came in.
My face was calm when I saw the call and I twirled my chair around for a while before I picked the phone off the table, taking it to my ear as I swiped the green icon.
“We got him, boss,” he said.
That was all I needed to hear. “Forward the location."
I ended the call and dropped the phone back on the table. I resumed work but in less than five minutes, my phone beeped and a notification popped up on my screen.
I picked up the phone again and checked the location he had forwarded.
Immediately, I stood up, heading out of the office.
My secretary stood up the moment she saw me walking out in a hurry.
“Sir, you have a meeting with the foreign branch by 3pm,” she said.
I didn't turn to look at her and my face was fixed only on the path where I was headed.
“Cancel it.” The words were simple and she understood.
Secretaries never last long with me. None stays longer than three months but Elena was able to stay because she understood orders clearly without complaints or arguments.
She understood that she was beneath and I had the final say.
The car was waiting when I got to the lot, the driver was always on alert to open the door whenever I approached.
I sat comfortably in the back seat of the car and forwarded the location to him.
“Drive there, quickly,” I instructed with a calm voice.
“Yes, sir.”
Minutes later, the car stopped in front of a warehouse.
The driver rushed over to my side of the car and opened the door. I walked out, heading into the warehouse.
The warehouse looked unkempt, cobwebs lurking around everywhere like it's their turf.
Sounds were coming from the left side of the building and I knew that was where David was with the guy.
When I walked inside, David bowed. “Welcome, boss.” Every other person in the room bowed along with him.
My eyes were fixated on the man who had been made to kneel, shivering like a goddamn coward.
I crouched down in front of him and he lifted his eyes to look into mine.
His lips trembled, his face pale and drained of color.
While still on his knees, he tried to shift away from me but David’s hands landed on his back and halted him.
“You’re the one who knows who Adrian Kane is, huh?” I asked, a slow smirk curling on my lips.
He didn't let me finish before his voice rose immediately. “I really don't know, Sir. I'm sorry,” he stuttered.
“I already told them, I was only paid to open the page and post those things.”
With a swift move, I made him lie on his back, his right arm getting trapped under my feet.
“Paid?” I asked. “By who?”
The man groaned as he tried to use his second hand to get my feet off but it didn't work.
“You really want me to take my feet off? Then speak the fuck up” I growled.
“Someone Anonymous!” His sharp voice echoed through the room. “Someone just messaged me online and paid me to do it!”
“Your phone?” I asked.
He fumbled with digging his second hand into his pocket without delay.
He brought the phone out and raised it. David took it from him and I stood up, twisting his arm before releasing my hold on his arm.
He screamed, trying to massage his arm but even he was too scared to hold it.
“You might choose to delete the page,” I dusted my suit which had barely got any dirt on it. “And you might decide to continue posting things about me”
“But the next time you are brought back here,” I paused. “I won't be sending you off with a warning or a broken arm”
“I'll make sure to paint this building red with your blood and I’ll throw your lifeless body into the streets.”
He shivered at my words. “I’ll delete the page, Sir! Please don't kill me.”
“Send him back to where you took him,” I instructed one of the men David had brought along with him.
“Yes, boss,” They bowed, saying in chorus before yanking the guy off the ground and shoving him outside.
I walked back outside with my hands in my pocket as David followed behind me.
“Clone that phone," I instructed.
“Dig through everything and find me the person who paid him to post those things. Am I clear?”
“Yes, boss,” David responded.
Whoever that person was. They just met their end. No one messes with a Lion without getting bitten.
