Chapter 14

It had been a week since Chase introduced Isabella to his parents. He was bothered by the way his mom acted strange when she saw Isabella but when he asked her what the problem was, she told him she was just surprised Chase would go as far as bring such a beautiful and kind woman. Never did they expect him to be serious when it came to relationships since no matter how they urged him to in the past, Chase refused time and time again. It was this stubborn attitude that prevented him from painful breakups and any sour things that were brought by romantic affairs, therefore, Chase’s parents had let it go. Then Chase finally introduced Isabella to the family, shocking everyone who knew Chase since birth.

It certainly came as a surprise, but it was a pleasant one.

Ever since that day, Isabella seemed to be livelier than she had been the past few days and Chase felt the happiest man while noticing this fact. He was glad he had made the right decision to finally introduce Isabella to his parents.

Everything looked perfect in his life, he had a good job, loving parents and annoying but caring sister, and he had a very sweet, amazing, and gorgeous girlfriend. It was perfect, his life was, he thought. But then there were those confusing dreams again that always manage to stab his heart and make him cry in pain.

Forcing himself to remember the events in his dreams, Chase felt another twinge inside his heart, and it screamed of something that Chase couldn't hear well.

Why does everything in his dream have to be damn confusing? Why can't those nightmares leave him alone and let him be happy? Why?

He sighed as he took a sip of his coffee and scanned whatever he had written on the white sheet of paper on his study table, the one he had been working on for a few hours by now. Words such as "together" "forever" "promise" seemed to catch his attention, especially the last word.

What does promise even mean?

Isabella has taught him how to use pinky promises, be it eating on time when she was not around or finally letting go of cigarette use when nobody else was there to stop him. They were little things for Chase, and he knew he'd follow whatever Isabella told him to do or not to do. But then he discovered they were difficult to accomplish. Because of his work schedules, there were days when he couldn't eat on time no matter how he wanted to. There were also times he strongly felt the need to smoke to calm his nerves down from all the tension and pressure he was having from work making the little promise hard to stick onto, too.

It was then he realized a promise was something someone found difficult to accomplish, but willing to give a try, not for the sake of themselves but for the person whom they had uttered the promise to.

Promises…

Chase remembered the dreams he had been having recently. They all seemed to be associated with a "promise" between two children. Chase couldn't understand it at all. Who were the children in his dreams? Were they related to Chase? Was that the reason why it hurt him because these people were somehow related to him?

When Chase was finally going to talk about his nightmares to Isabella, the younger told him not to continue. It sounded a bit off to Chase, but he knew his lover only wanted him at peace, maybe she too didn’t want Chase to remember things that can only hurt him. Like his nightmares did.

But curiosity was banging inside him, wanting to know and understand more of what his dreams meant. A part of him screamed not to know more so he could be saved from more pain that was yet to come. But then there was that voice inside him wanting to discover something, a voice that told him he should know more, and he needed to know more.
