Three Days to Germany
Three Days to Germany
Chapter 130
Third-Person POV
Ruby didn’t understand why Kim had snapped all of a sudden. She thought that they were both chill, that Kim would tell her if she was having any problems or if she was going through anything at all. But apparently that didn’t seem to be the case.
She decided to shake it off and not worry about it too much, telling herself that everything was going to be fine. Thankfully, her friend Adam had called her to meet up, so at least that could take her mind off Kim for a little while.
“Hey,” he greeted, as soon as she sat across from him. He then nodded towards the cup of milkshake that was obviously for her. They had met at a popular snack cart, one Ruby loved because of its milkshakes.
“Hey.” Ruby returned his smile before grabbing her milkshake. “Thanks. How are you?”
“I’m good,” he replied, with his hand on his chin, like he wasn’t quite sure of his answer. He then raised a brow. “I’m sure you’re already aware of why I called you here."
Ruby shrugged lightly. “Maybe, maybe not. Either way you’re going to have to say it with your lips.”
"Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem." He leaned closer, a small smile inching up his lips as he swayed the empty cup in his hand. “I called you here because I want your help.”
“That’s obvious.” Ruby rolled her eyes playfully before slurping from her sweet drink. "What do you need my help with?”
“To get with Kim,” he answered simply.
Ruby just shook her head as a wistful smile formed on her lips. “I thought you’d say that.” She tapped her cup against the table, letting the chatter from other tables fill the silence before she continued. “I’m sorry to tell you this, Adam, but I’m afraid we’re not on good terms right now. I don’t really—"
A sharp beep signaling a notification from her phone cut her off before she could finish her sentence, and her gaze instinctively went to her phone.
Normally she would’ve just put it away and kept talking, but the name on the screen caught her attention, taking all the words out of her mouth.
It was a message. From Kim.
Ruby’s brows raised in surprise as she picked up her phone, opening the message, and she was even more surprised when she read it.
Kim had asked her to dinner. She wanted to talk to her.
Ruby found herself smiling as she stared at the message. She didn’t even hesitate before rising from her chair and taking her milkshake with her, of course. "Yeah, I know I said Kim and I aren’t on good terms, but there’s a chance that’s gonna change in a few minutes.”
Adam blinked, confused. “Wait, what? What happened?”
“Oh don’t worry, I’ll fill you in later.” She picked up her purse. “And please don’t show up again unless you’re ready to enter the airport. I’m so sick of saying goodbye all the time. Just in case you’re not aware, they’re kind of like a one-time thing."
Adam couldn’t help but smile at her joke.
Ruby didn’t waste time before meeting up with Kim. To be honest, she had been a little bit sad and worried after their fight earlier, and she really wanted to talk things out with Kim, but Kim wasn’t exactly giving her a chance.
Well… until now.
Kim was already seated when she arrived. Ruby could even feel the uncomfortable tension pulsing in the air as their eyes locked from far away. But from the way Kim’s lips were pressed tight, she knew she was feeling far more uncomfortable than she was.
So she decided she was not going to make this hard for her. She decided she would even start the conversation.
“Hi.” She waved, smiling softly at her as she settled in her seat. “You wanted to talk?”
She opened her lips to speak, but it seemed it wasn’t working, so she tried again. “I’m sorry,” she practically blurted the words out. “I wasn’t thinking, or rather, I was thinking too much, and I took it out on you. I’m really sorry.” Her voice cracked at the end, and Ruby immediately noticed her teary eyes as Kim blinked rapidly to stop her tears from falling, but one slipped free anyway.
And Ruby immediately rushed to her side of the booth, just in time before the rest of her tears followed. “It’s okay,” she told her, placing a reassuring hand on her back.
“It’s just… I feel so alone without him here.” She sniffled, her sobs coming one after the other. “I feel so empty without Jett.”
“There, there. You can let it all out. I’m here,” Ruby said softly, still rubbing her back gently. And Kim did just as she said.
She let it all out. She told her how everything had gone down with her and Jett. Every single thing.
Ruby felt so bad for her that she pulled her into a tight hug, not caring about the questioning glances that came their way. She comforted her, telling her that it’ll all be okay.
Kim must have felt a little self-conscious after being so vulnerable out in the open that she decided to switch gears. “I also wanted to let you know that I’m leaving for an exclusive job somewhere,” she said with a light breath, her eyes still red and puffy.
“Oh my God, girl! That’s great!” Ruby squealed, squeezing her shoulders gently.
Kim gave a weak smile before she continued, “But it’s like in four days' time, so…” She trailed off with a shrug, not needing to explain more.
While Ruby’s jaw literally dropped to the ground. “Oh my freaking God,” she gasped, covering her lips with her fingers.
Kim was concerned but decided to stay quiet until Ruby explained how her leaving in four days was such a big deal. “That’s the same time Adam is leaving too.”
Kim blinked. “Adam?”
“Yes! You guys should probably go at the same time!” It was all Ruby could do not to start her usual squeals. Kim could tell.
Their order finally came—one she had given even before Ruby arrived as she already knew what she liked—and they ate it up while Ruby blabbed about how the next four days were going to be for Kim if she went with Adam.
They had lots of fun that night, and Kim was glad she talked to Ruby and wasn’t immature about her feelings. It had made things a lot easier for her.
They were still chatting and snickering when Kim got a text from Mr. Jones, reminding her that she was leaving for Germany in three days.
He told her that he had booked her flight and that she could come with anyone to help her. He also said he had already set up the team for her there in Germany, so all she needed to do was just go meet them.
Excitement rushed through Kim as she read the message, a huge, happy smile spreading out on her lips.
