Chapter 38 Thirty-Eight
Chapter 38 Thirty-Eight
Kimberly
I was going to tell him something. I couldn’t find him around. The bleachers outside,he wasn’t there. So I decided to take a walk further hoping I will see him just somewhere, anywhere.
As I walked further, my eyes met the part of someone’s uniform. I shifted backwards. That must be him. I squinted my eyes, a towering figure, from his back I could already tell it was him.
But it seems he was with someone. I halted my steps, maybe I should just wait.
“Nah, after this I have something really important to do,” I muttered to myself.
So I just have to tell him now.
I walked closer and my heart thudded lightly. He wasn’t just with anyone else but his girlfriend, his hand on her waist, their lips locked.
“Oh my God…” I whispered, my breath was uneven and my hand flew to my chest.
He turned slowly to look at me, his expression dazed.
He opened his mouth to say something.
“I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have come here,” I said and quickly moved away from there, avoiding his gaze.
My heart raced trying to process what I saw.My chest felt tightened as I hurried down the hallway. I shouldn’t have gone there. I should have just waited, I wouldn’t have seen that.
His hands was on her waist, and the way he kissed her—
It was all so natural like he had prepared solely for that moment.
I shook my head trying to brush off the memory away from my mind.
Of course she is his girlfriend. What was I even expecting?
He likes her and he just wanted to use me. Why should I even be thinking otherwise? They are dating and he wouldn’t leave his girlfriend for me.
“I shouldn’t have let him close to me in the first place,” my voice weakened.
“I was just a fool to think we were heading somewhere,” a flush crept across my face.
“Gosh! I shouldn’t even have met him to kiss me that night, I can’t believe I gave my first kiss to him,” a tingling swept off the back of my neck and across my face.
He should better not come near me again, he should just keep his stupid feelings to himself.
“He should fucking just trash that feeling!,” I snapped, my fingers curling at my side and my eyes burning.
I let out a breath, then turned to face the mirror opposite me. I tilted my head to the side and my brows narrowed.
“Wait… why did it even hurt to see that?” I questioned my reflection on the mirror.
“I shouldn’t care right? They are dating, of course they will kiss, they should’ve been kissing even before .”
My breath was hard, and my hands started to get shaky.
“Why am I even jealous?”
I leaned in forward, my eyes were becoming glossy.
I shook my head vigorously.
You will be fine Kimberly, this shouldn’t have anything on you, you have better things to focus on.
I heard the shuffling of feet behind me, I quickly fixed my face and straightened out my blazers.
I turned around to look behind me. It was Andre.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, why not,” I said, trying to force a smile.
He stared at me intently, it was as though he wasn’t going to buy that lie.
He leaned forward, lowering his head, he stared closely at me like he was searching for something on my face.
I leaned my shoulders backwards, my brows wrinkled.
“What are you doing?” I whispered.
“He leaned backward.
“You see, I was right. You are not okay at all,” he said simply.
“It seems you finished crying,” he added.
My shoulder slumped.
“Fine, you caught me,” I looked away and then back to him.
“I wasn’t crying though, let just say I was about to.”
My gaze shifted down, I twisted my fingers.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, it’s fine now, I’m fine,” I said simply.
How do I even tell him that I was in pain because I caught Xavier kissing his girlfriend. I’m probably going to sound like a fool.
“You’re heading somewhere?”
“No, I was heading to class.”
“Do you mind coming to the cafeteria with me?” He questioned, already stretching out his hand.
I shifted my gaze away from him and scratched the back of my neck.
Going to the Cafeteria means we have to walk together and that means Greyhigh kids might start staring at us and we might just be giving them enough drama to feed their blog.
Especially since after that incident with Andre and Xavier. Before walking with Andre felt like Bliss, i still feel that way, comfortable around him but now some people stare because they think we are perhaps a thing.
As I walked to the cafeteria, I overheard some students talking.
“Aren’t Xavier and Cassie like the perfect couple.”
My heart thudded lightly, it wasn’t supposed to concern me. I didn’t even know what they were talking about, but that one line piqued my interest, that if I wasn’t walking with Andre I would have halted my steps just to hear more.
We finally got to the Cafeteria and sat down to eat. I was just tossing my food on the plate. My mind is still thinking about him.Replaying moments when we were in an enclosed place. The day he kissed me, the way he stroked his lips, pressing them perfectly on mine.
The way he always looked at me when he leaned in closely.
The other times, he had nearly kissed me. It was as though he cared.
I leaned forward, putting one hand on my jaw, and using the other to press the spoon on my lips.
“I will just avoid him completely, he shouldn’t be affecting my thoughts,” I muttered to myself.
“Who?” Andre questioned.
I jerked up, my eyes widened.
I forgot I wasn’t alone.
“Uh?”
“You were talking about someone…,” he arched his brow.
“Ohhh, ohh,” I chuckled nervously trying to think of something else to say instead of saying the truth.
“It’s nothing serious, it’s just a character from a book I read last night, I just can’t get over him,” I lied.
“Okay,” he shrugged.
The way he continued staring at me, it seemed he wasn’t buying that lie.
“Do you like him?”
“Who?”
“Xavier.”
I choked, spitting the water out of my mouth.
“No.. no, of course not,” I said defiantly.
“Why would I? He got many issues, I mean he is a bully, his name even came out in the drug test,” I explained.
And when I looked up, my eyes met him, he was staring intently at him, I could see the pain in his eyes.
I shouldn’t have said that last part.
