Chapter 37 Thirty Seven

Chapter 37 Thirty Seven

Xavier

I jerked back, my brows furrowed together.

“Where did you hear that from?” I questioned.

She scoffed, then eye me warrily.

“That’s not what is important right now, you haven’t answer my question.”

I bit my lips then lowered my gaze and then I looked up at her again. She was now folding her arms across her chest and setting one leg forward. I know Cassie won’t let me go till I say something.

I don’t even know what I wanted to say right now. If I say a lie it will be a problem. If I say what she wanted to hear, it Also going to be a problem.

I sighed, did someone perhaps overheard me talking to Kimberly.

“See Cassie, I don’t really have time for this conversation, just let me be,” I said, and made an attempt to move past her.

But she stepped over at my front, blocking me from moving away.

I exhaled deeply, “ Cassie what do you want now?”

“For you to tell me the truth!” She snapped.

“I already told you, I never said anything, I don’t even know where you got that from,” I tried to explain.

“Gosh! You’re stressing me,” I said, shoving my hands in my hair.

“Why not just go ask your source to tell you the truth then?”

She bit her lips, her face contorted into a deep frown.

“What has even come into you Xavier?”  She shook her head, staring intently at me

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, I have something to do,” I said and made an attempt to walk away again.

She pushed me back on my chest.

I rolled my head back, my expression dazed.

“Do you seriously want to cross the line now? I questioned, my fist curling.

I know I wasn’t going to do anything to her, but she was pushing me. If it were for a guy, maybe like Andre I do have reacted since.

But I was trying to calm my nerves and not let her words get to me but she just kept pushing me.

If I wanted to go lower, I do have to use that one thing against her right now, and she will just shut up and let me walk away.  But I hate the fact that I was going to use her secret against her after I had let her confide in me.

“Do you like her?” She laughed bitterly.

“Who?” My brows squished together. I knew who she was talking about, but I pretended to act clueless.

“Don’t do this Xavier, stop acting clueless, I’m not a fool, answer me!” She snapped

“Do you like her!”

If I tell her now, I knew she is going to find a way to ruin her life.

“Cassie I have told you before, I seriously don’t know what you want to hear again,” I rolled my eyes.

“So it’s true,”she said almost quietly, her eyes starting to appear red and her shoulders stopped. Then she looked away.

“After everything,” her voice was breaking  and she was just staring, not at me, it was empty.

Now this feels like gaslighting, I know this moves, but I’m just going to play along so she does let me go.

“So it wasn’t a lie, I thought I heard wrong, you’re not even protesting against it,” she sighed.

“Cassie…” I called out, my voice calm.

It was as if she didn’t even hear me,she continued talking, her expression slack, and her eyes wet and dull.

“I should have known better, I was just stupid,” she said, her tone flat.

I walked closer to her. I raised my hand up to touch her shoulders but she shoved my hands away.

“Cassie,” I called out softly.

I’m just going to tell her what she wanted to hear.

“Okay, I’m just going to say the truth,” I said calmly, my gaze shifting away from her and staring at the floor.

“I know it’s stupid, but I think I was falling for her.”

She looked up at me and our eyes met.

She jerked her head back and an incredulous stare on her face.

“What?”

“I know, that’s why I didn’t want to tell you, I know you don’t want to hear it.”

“But you said you loved me,” she said, her voice shaky.

“I do, I never said I loved her, Cassie.”

“I was falling for her, maybe it was just  a crush, it’s normal,” I explained.

“ But why her?  all of a sudden?” She  questioned.

“I don’t know how to explain that.”

Maybe you should ask google, I said in my mind. Because how do I even explain that?

“No, I’m not taking this,” she shook her head, her mouth fell open, then she sighed.

“I’m trying to come clean, transparent, you said I shouldn’t hide anything from you,” I said firmly.

She shook her head slightly.

“It was just a crush, tell me you haven’t had a crush on other guys since we have been dating?”

She lowered her gaze and took a deep breath, closing her eyes.

I think I must have got her on that one.

“Fine,” she said, she bit her lips,“but I don’t like the way you are with her.”

“How? I don’t even move around with her.”

“I know, not that,” she looked away,“Just stop talking with her and moving close to her, it just makes me feel jealous,” she said, her voice a bit low.

“Okay, I have heard,” I said simply.

The air grew quiet for a while. With us just staring at each other. Cassie stood there, twisting her fingers and dragging the tip of her shoe slowly on the floor in a playful manner. Her gaze shifted to me, then to the floor. She bit her lips.

I stared back at her, hands in my pocket, I already knew what she wanted.

I leaned forward, my hand wrapped around her waist, I pulled her close. Her body shuddered lightly.

“What are you doing,” her cheek glowed, her gaze lowered.

“Exactly what you wanted,” I said simply, rolling my eyes.

I know her too well, that this will be the only thing that will calm her right now. Being touched.

Anytime we are caught up in an argument or a misunderstanding, I just pull up this effect and it works every damn time.

Exactly the reason why I don’t want to be with her, it feels like that's the sole of our relationship and there’s no meaning to it, just chills and vibes.

She parted her lips and tilted her head to the side. I pressed my lips against hers, kissing her slowly, and softly. And then I placed my fingers on her thighs, tracing them slowly and lifting her skirt up. She let out a soft moan.

“Oh my God…”

I heard that familiar voice behind me, and I stopped immediately, my stomach twisted. I turned slowly to look.

Kimberly

“I’m so sorry for interrupting, I didn’t mean to,” she said, her voice shaky, her eyes blinking rapidly trying to shift her gaze away.

Then she hurried away.
