Chapter 29 Twenty-Nine
Chapter 29 Twenty-Nine
Kimberly
The two weeks suspension was finally over. I sat down on my bed fully dressed on my uniform. I should be excited about resuming school, but here I was anxiety sipping through me slowly as I thought about how I was going to face everyone today.
Will I make more headlines on their blog? Probably.
Andre had texted me this morning, telling me how he was excited for me to resume school and he had planned a surprise welcome back for me.
I had told him not to create another uneccesary drama on behalf of me.
“Kimberly darling,” My mum called softly.
I lifted my eyes slowly to meet her, I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t realize she must have been in the room with me.
“Your suspension is over now, you should cheer up,” she said simply.
“Of course,” I fake a smile.
I should be happy, that’s what every normal person will do. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her I wish the school could just expel me from there. I honestly wish, but then again that will be a huge burden on my mum.
I finally stood up from the bed, taking a deep breath and decided to go to school.
I got to the entrance of the school, I took a deep breath.
“You can do it Kimberly,” I muttered.
I started walking in the hallway, holding my back pack so tight to myself like Someone will steal it away from me.
I lowered my gaze to the floor, I could feel the eyes of everyone shooting daggers at me. I decided to hasten my steps.
Just when I thought I have successfully walked the hallway, I saw Cassie walking over to where I was with a sneered on her face.
“Oh please, not today,” i whispered.
“ Hey,”
Andre?
I turned to look at my left and there was Andre standing next to me with that toothy grin on his face.
“Welcome back,” he said, still smiling tightly at me.
“Thank you,” I smiled back and when I looked to the direction Cassie was coming from, I saw her hissed and then she walked away.
I looked back at Andre, it seemed he followed my gaze, because his eyes were still on that direction.
“You have a problem with her?”
“Nah, not really,” I shrugged,“ she has just been on my neck since I started this school, I don’t know what she wants from me.”
The bell rang and everyone started rushing to class. We had Biology class. My eyes darted around the class but I couldn’t find Anaya, i haven’t even seen her since I came to school. Where could she be, she was supposed to be the first person to welcome me back today.
And then I looked around again, my eyes subconsciously met Xavier’s seat, but he wasn’t there.
What’s happening?
But he came to school this morning, I saw his driver drove him to school. He doesn’t skip class, this is so unusual.
“Miss Kimberly,” the teacher called.
I jerked up.
Everyone turned to face me. Oh no! This is the type of attention I don’t want.
“It seems your mind has travelled to another world, or aren’t you tired of your suspension holiday?” He arched his right brow suggestively.
The whole class burst into an uproar of laughter.
I lowered my gaze, intertwining my fingers, I just wish the ground will swallow me right now.
“Tell us the answer to the question,” the teacher said simply, his eyes fixed on me.
My heart thudded lightly in my chest. What question?
“Sir… Wh… what question?” I stuttered.
“ What question?” He scoffed,“ that shows you weren’t paying attention in class.”
“Hope you remember you are on scholarship and you shouldn’t take it for granted.”
Oh no! Not that again. My stomach sank, Will they ever stop reminding me on that?
He walked over to the board and I heaved a deep sigh thinking he was done.
He turned around to face the class,,“Can someone please remind her what the question is?”
My palm started to feel sweaty, I hope it is something I can answer or have even a little idea of.
A girl stood up.
“The question is what is the difference betwen mitosis and meiosis in terms of the number of daughter cells produced and their genetic make up.”
“Thank you Anna,” the teacher smiled and she sat down.
I looked away from his gaze. How am I supposed to know that? My heart started racing. Can they just ring the bell already?
“Yes miss Kimberly, that’s the question.”
“Uhmm…” I scratched the back of my ears
“Mitosis is for sex cells, meiosis is for growth.”
The class burst into laughter. I docked my head in. Not like everyone of them laughing knew the answer.
“Who can help her out?”
That girk stood up again.
“The answer is Mitosis contains 2 diploids of daughter cells and Meioisis contains 4 haploids of daughter cells.” She said simply.
“Good!” The teacher snapped his fingers
“Miss Kimberly, you better start paying attention in class or else you know what will happen.” He said simply.
I shifted my gaze to the floor, with this that information will never leave my brain and I’d make sure I do a proper research on it later.
The class was over and I couldn’t help it but to exhale deeply. After that embarrassing moment, when I thought I will soon be out of that place, the class felt like forever.
I hope these Greyhigh students hasn’t make anything about it, I don’t trust them one bit. Their next headline will probably be“Scholarship student that wasn’t smart enough to answer a simple question in class.”
I went over to my locker to drop some of my books and take another so I could study it in the library.
“Suprise!”
Boom!
The confetti spew on the air, with some landing on my hair.
And there was Andre standing with the confetti stick and holding it with both hands with that toothy grin on his face.
“Andre,” I whispered, my eyes searching around.
“Oh don’t worry about them, there aren’t even many people around and yeah this was the suprise i told you about.”
“Oh stop it Andre,” I slapped his hand playfully.
“I didn’t know you were this serious.”
“Oh yeah I was,” he chuckled.
“And again here is the other suprise,” he said, picking up a small bag from the floor. He brought out a small cake from inside the paper gift back.
My eyes widened and my mouth fell open in suprise.
“Welcome back to school,” he smiled.
I leaned forward pulling him in a tight hug.
He coughed lightly.
And then I pulled away.
“I wasn’t going to choke you,” i teased.
“Thank you so much Andre, this means a lot,” I pouted.
I never thought anyone would care this much for me.
“Uh.. I’m heading to the library right now , so we will just talk later,” I said simply and started walking away.
I was almost at the library block when I heard someone sobbing behind the walls. I wanted to walk away but curiosity took the better part of me.
I decided to see who the person was.
My mouth fell open. I never expected this person to be in this vulnerable state.
