Chapter 28 Twenty -Eight

Chapter 28 Twenty -Eight

Xavier

We heard footsteps approaching from upstairs and she pulled away from me immediately.

She lowered her head, refusing to meet my gaze. Then she started rushing upstairs. Now I’m not sure I can ever get her out of my mind.

I want her more now than ever. I don’t care what my Dad nor my mum has to say about it.

It was another school morning which means me meeting up with Cassie my Girlfriend by title, dealing with Mr martins on the drug test issue, my mind went back to the conversation in that office when my father said he was going to let them punish me without conducting a proper investigation.

Right after I had opened the office, he went completely mute, staring at me with his eyes cold and glaring, like I was some stranger he was having a rivalry with, like I wasn’t his son.

Did he hate me so much?

It made me wonder if I was truly his son.

I mirrored the same expression. Mr Martins just sat there, his gaze darting from my Father to me.Completely speechless.

“What are you doing here?” My father finally asked.

I should be asking him that question.

“I’m here to see Mr martins,” I said simply, shifting my gaze away from him.

“What for?” He asked, shifting his gaze to Mr Martins.

“Uh.. uh.. we were just going to talk about—” Mr Martins started to say, but my Father cut him off.

“Wait… were you going to let him go away with what he did?”

“No sir… but..”

“But what? Oh I see,” My father nodded slowly, tapping his jaw lightly.

“ Are you trying to get him out of it without my idea?” He tilted his head to the side.

“No sir, that’s not it, Xavier has been a good boy, like I told you we just have to investigate this issue properly.”

My gaze shifted to my father ,I was staring at him intently. I didn’t let my fear hold me back like it used to.

“So you are really going to let them punish me without doing a proper investigation?” I laughed bitterly.

There was silence, he didn’t say anything, he just continued staring at him, his expression dazed, I knew he must be wondering where I have gotten the courage from.

My father adjusted his sleeve, like we were about to discuss some business meeting.

“You heard me,” he said, tilting his head to the side.

I chuckled, not out of amusement, but really wondering why my father would want to do something like that.

“I don’t want you to be a disgrace to this family, your mum and I have done so much for you and you can’t just disappoint us like that,” he rambled.

Like he cares so much .

Were they just going to give birth to me and dump me somewhere. Why are they acting like I begged them to bring me into this world?

“I didn’t do anything, I have never even touched drugs, you know that,” I said firmly, hating the fact that I was explaining myself.

“I have been very free with you, that’s why you’re acting all so reckless,” he said simply.

Reckless?

When did that even get into the picture?

All because my name was on that list that has not been confirmed yet?

Or was it because I kissed a girl?

So that’s the word he used to describe me now?

I sucked my teeth in, raising my head up and shaking it slowly.

I stared back at him dead in the eyes.

“Do you really hate me so much?”

“Xavier…” Mr Martins called, his voice commanding like he was trying to stop me from going further.

I didn’t look his way, I continued staring at my father. He shifted on the chair and with the way he sat, tapping his leg gently on the floor I knew that word got to him, but his gaze didn’t shift away from me.

Mr Martins cleared his throat abruptly, turning to face my Father.

“Sir, I think the allegations against him may really not be true, it could be that he was framed,” he tried to explain.

My Father lifted his hand in the air in a manner of ordering him to stop.

“No,” he said, still looking at me right in the eyes, “ he seems to be proving stubborn, so he is going to bear the consequences.”

“What consequences?” Mr Martins asked.

“Suspension! Two weeks away from Athletics,” he said firmly.

My chest slammed against my ribs.

I couldn’t even miss the shock on Mr Martin's face, he was as dazed as I looked.

“What?” I snapped.

“Yes, this is about discipline,” My Father said firmly.

“No,” this isn’t discipline, this is more like control,” I said simply.

His jaw tightened.

“Yes! You aren’t mature enough to know what’s good for you.”

I swallowed hard, tightening my fist at my side.

“Sir there will be a championship training by that two weeks,” Mr Martins said simply.

“He has to be there,” he added.

“I don’t care, if that’s what it takes for him to fix his attitude, then may the suspension hold!”

My chest tightened

“ What! You can’t be serious,” I snapped.

“I’m very serious and Also you have to stay away from her,”he said firmly.

“From who?”

“Don’t be stupid, you know who exactly  I’m talking about, the girl in the picture.”

“And what if I don’t?” I asked, my eyes staring intently at him, cold and glaring.

“We will see to that,” he fired back and started to walk away.

I curled my fist so hard that I could feel my nails digging into my palm. My eyes were red and burning. With all these stupid rules and the suspension, he still wants me to perform well in athletics.

I stormed out of the office and on my way I met him.

Andre.

I didn’t even know what made me stop right on my track. His gaze was  fixed on me .

“How are you feeling now that you have let her  scholarship be on the brink of falling?”
