Chapter 749: The Only Savior
As soon as Andrew finished speaking, he quickly answered the phone. To avoid upsetting Anna, he even moved slightly to the side. Meanwhile, Rosalind kept her eyes locked on Anna, speaking in a low voice, "Anna, Benjamin can't wait any longer. I'm begging you to save him."
Anna stood beside Adrian, turning to Rosalind. "I can go see Benjamin, but I can't promise to wake him up."
This time, Benjamin's condition was unlike any before. His coma was likely caused by the loss of a kidney.
Hearing Anna's response, Rosalind hastily replied, "You can! I know you can wake Benjamin up!"
If even Anna couldn't save Benjamin, Rosalind couldn't imagine who else could. To her, Anna was the only savior left.
"Let's go now! Right away!" Rosalind urged, stepping forward in a panicked rush to grab Anna's hand.
Will immediately stepped in front of her, blocking the way.
Adrian said, "Just lead the way."
Reluctantly, Rosalind began walking ahead. After a few steps, she noticed Andrew hadn't followed. Turning back, she called out to him.
But Andrew, clutching his phone, stood frozen by the hallway, seemingly lost in thought.
"Andrew!" Rosalind called louder this time, her voice sharp with urgency.
This time, everyone turned to look at Andrew.
"Mom, let's go." Andrew snapped out of his daze, hung up the phone, and caught up with them.
Anna immediately noticed something was off with Andrew. She exchanged a glance with Adrian, and they both seemed to arrive at the same conclusion.
Rosalind, however, was too preoccupied to notice anything unusual.
When they finally reached Benjamin's hospital room, Anna began performing acupuncture to treat him. Meanwhile, Andrew decided it was time to tell Rosalind about the news he had received from Alex.
"Mom, there's something I need to tell you," Andrew began.
Rosalind, who had been anxiously waiting outside the room, looked at him in confusion. "What is it?"
"Alex has been arrested," Andrew said, opting to start with the less devastating news.
Compared to the news about William, Alex's arrest seemed like a minor matter.
Even so, Rosalind froze at the revelation. "How is that possible? There must be some mistake! Alex didn't do anything wrong!"
She had completely forgotten about Alex's previous attempt to tamper with Anna's car. Since Anna had emerged unscathed, Rosalind had convinced herself that nothing serious had happened.
However, with the culprit who tampered with the car now in custody, Alex's involvement was undeniable.
Noticing Rosalind's shock, Andrew glanced at Will and the others standing nearby before quietly explaining the reason for Alex's arrest.
When Rosalind learned it was connected to Anna, her first instinct was to plead with Anna for mercy. She took a step forward, but Andrew quickly held her back.
"Mom, Anna is helping Benjamin right now," Andrew reminded her.
Deep down, Andrew knew that even if Rosalind begged Anna, it would be useless. Though the matter was related to Anna, it was obvious that Adrian's people were the ones pushing the investigation forward.
Adrian wasn't someone who could be easily swayed. Alex's fate was sealed.
Although Andrew managed to stop Rosalind, she wasn't ready to give up. She thought, if Anna could forgive Alex, then even if he couldn't avoid punishment, his sentence might be lighter.
She vowed to beg Anna for Alex's pardon.
While Rosalind was preoccupied with planning her plea, Andrew suddenly said, "Mom, there's something else. I don't want to hide it from you, but you need to stay calm and not act impulsively."
He wasn't sure how Rosalind would react to the news of William's death. To be safe, he decided to set some ground rules first.
Rosalind felt a wave of unease. She had a bad feeling about what Andrew was about to say.
"You…" Rosalind hesitated but eventually asked, "What is it you want to say?"
Andrew waited for her to promise.
Irritated, Rosalind snapped, "Fine, I won't act impulsively. Just tell me already!"
After a moment of silence, Andrew finally looked at Rosalind and said slowly, "There's news about Dad… but it's not good."
Rosalind immediately tensed. "What happened to him?"
She wasn't overly concerned about William himself. She was more worried that he might have caused more trouble for the family. They couldn't handle any more debts or disasters.
Lowering his head, Andrew said, "Dad… he got drunk, fell into a river, and drowned."
"What?" Rosalind thought she had misheard.
William was dead?
Though she had cursed him countless times, she had never imagined he would actually die like this.
Andrew repeated himself. This time, Rosalind shot to her feet.
"Where is he?"
She refused to believe it. She suspected this was one of William's tricks to fake his death and dodge his debts, leaving them to clean up his mess.
Her outburst drew everyone's attention.
Andrew sighed and pulled her back. "Mom, you promised not to act impulsively."
But Rosalind shook him off angrily. "How can I not be impulsive? He gets to die so easily, leaving us with all this debt to deal with? Why should he get to leave like that? He can't die!"
As she shouted, tears began streaming down her face.
For a moment, Andrew didn't know what to say.
Though Rosalind's words were harsh, he knew she must be deeply hurt inside.
Through her tears, Rosalind grabbed Andrew's arm. "Take me to see him! I need to see for myself!"
Feeling helpless, Andrew realized he couldn't leave Benjamin's side just yet.
"Mom, let's wait until Benjamin is out of danger. Then we'll go see Dad," he said, trying to calm her down.
Hearing Benjamin's name, Rosalind finally managed to compose herself.
Fortunately, they didn't have to wait long. Anna soon emerged from the room.
"He's awake," Anna announced briefly before preparing to leave with Adrian.
Rosalind rushed into the room and found Benjamin conscious. She was overjoyed.
"Andrew, go get the doctor! Benjamin is awake!" she exclaimed.
Andrew hurried off, but Rosalind hadn't forgotten about Alex's arrest. She ran after Anna's group and suddenly dropped to her knees.
"Anna, I have one last favor to ask of you."
Startled, Anna instinctively stepped behind Adrian.
Adrian gave Will a look.
Will quickly stepped forward, pulling Rosalind to her feet. "Say what you need to say while standing."
Tears streaming down her face, Rosalind looked at Anna and pleaded, "I just found out about your father's death… and about Alex being arrested. I'm begging you, please forgive Alex. Your father is gone. Our family can't lose Alex too. He's the only pillar we have left."
