Chapter 5 - The Truth
(Ace’s Pov).
When I was still arguing with Diane, suddenly my body responded to something I had felt when Diane was my mate. My heart ached so much that I clutched my left breast.
"Damn it!" I cursed while growling.
I went running from Diane's presence when I smelled Lauren's body scent moving away from the house.
As I ran, I heard Diane yelling my name, but I didn't care because somehow Lauren was the most important thing to me right now.
I didn't know why I was so intent on making Lauren become my mate when I had promised Diane this marriage was happening to cover up the fact that my real mate was my enemy.
Was it fate that I didn't need to have a relationship with Diane anymore because her pack was my family's enemy?
Damn! I couldn’t think with a cool head right now.
"Lauren!" I yelled out to her when I had completely entered the forest.
I looked to my right and left as I mobilized my pack with my wolf telepathy to look for her.
I could smell her scent around here. She wasn't too far away and I didn't think Lauren would get far from here.
Did she hear me and Diane's conversation? Because Diane was talking loudly.
My breath hitched and I was quiet for a moment because I knew Lauren was hiding. It seemed like she heard me and Diane's conversation.
I was still holding my chest because often the throbbing caused pain. I could feel the pain Lauren was feeling and I didn't like being weak because it became my weakness.
"Please, come out Lauren. I can feel you here. I can feel your heartache as well, and it hurts me," I said, trying to get her to appear before me.
I wasn't lying when I said that, because even though I didn't hear her sobs, I knew she was hurting inside, I knew she was starting to love me in the end.
If she didn’t want to come out, then I wouldn't force her but I would wait for her. Because it felt like I had to explain to her and suddenly I was really afraid of losing her.
This wasn't what I had planned. It was completely unexpected when it turned out that two weeks of intense time with her made me feel different about her.
"If you don't want to come out, then I'll wait here," I said, calmly.
I sat back under the tree with one leg bent while the other was stretched out.
She was still near me and it was enough for me to feel a little calm because at least she couldn't leave here. After all, if so, I would catch her.
"You're already my mate, my wife, Lauren. So you can't leave me," I said, emphasizing.
I waited for Lauren to respond to my answer but she didn't give any response. Until I heard her footsteps start to move and reflexively, I looked towards the source of the sound.
Now I was facing Lauren, my wife and also my mate who I didn't expect in the end. Her eyes were red and wet, and so was her nose. She was crying and I was sorry that I had made her cry for the first time.
"Lauren," I said when she didn't say anything but chose to keep walking.
"Stay the hell away from me!" she said, turning around and walking backward.
"I'll explain to you."
"No! You've betrayed me! You—aw!"
I reflexively caught her when she was about to fall and for a moment she looked into my eyes. Her beautiful eyes showed the deep hurt I had caused her.
"Let go!" she screamed but I held her body and brought her back home.
For a moment I didn't care that she was screaming and also rebelling to let go. I only cared that she was in my house and not running away from me. After all, it happened and I had to give her an explanation.
When I got home, I saw Diane was still there but I ignored her and chose to bring Lauren into the room.
"I don't want to be with you," she said. Her voice sounded shaky and I was suddenly afraid of her leaving me. "I want us to separate."
"No!" I shouted loudly. "No separation, no such thing!"
Suddenly Lauren slapped me which I took without getting angry at her. Her slap was well deserved because I had hurt her, but that didn't mean I wanted her to break up with me.
"You hurt my feelings, Ace! You lied to me! I was just a toy for you! You gave me all the things I felt for the first time! How could you be that mean to me, Ace?! How could you?!
She pounded on my chest and I stayed silent letting her vent her frustration and disappointment on me in her way. This problem had to be solved immediately because I didn't want to make her uncomfortable with what had happened. After all, I promised her parents to take care of her.
"No, you're not a toy! I can explain everything but you have to give me a chance."
Her shoulders seemed to weaken and she turned her body around, facing the window, ignoring me. She cried again but this time silently. I wasn't surprised that I could feel what my mate was feeling because when I was with Diane, things like this happened. It was just that I felt like Lauren mattered more than Diane.
"Leave me. If you don't want to separate, leave me now. Give me some time alone without you in my presence," she said, coldly.
It hurt, but not as much as when she wanted to separate from me. At least I knew she would still be here, being my wife.
"I'll explain when you're completely calm," I said. "Lauren, I'm sorry. I did wrong to you."
No more words came out of her mouth until I finally walked out of the room and exhaled heavily. Today I was going to end my problem with Diane. I've made up my mind to choose Lauren as my wife and my mate even though it happened by accident. And Diane ... our relationship must end right now.
