Chapter 588 Same Type of Dream

Chapter 588 Same Type of Dream

If I told Bob the truth about this, I wouldn't be able to explain it clearly anytime soon. Plus, I didn't want him to know that I had psychic abilities.

After all, my life goal has always been either to become a civil servant and develop a career in government, or to venture into business and eventually become a successful boss. The last thing I wanted was to end up like Byron just now, making a living by pretending to commune with spirits.

Although there are many things in this world that science can't explain, and many people encounter various supernatural events in their daily lives, it's fine to help people out when they face difficulties. But making a complete living off this stuff? I really looked down on that.

So apart from Paul, I couldn't let anyone else know that I had this particular talent.

"Vice President Smith," I explained, "I'm not really clear about the specifics either. As you know, I've practiced martial arts since I was young, and my teacher seemed to have a background as an exorcist. But he only taught me martial arts, not this spirit-catching ghost-hunting stuff. Of course, more importantly, even if he had taught me, I wouldn't have learned it, because I don't believe in ghosts and spirits at all."

Bob nodded with some skepticism.

I continued, "However, I have seen my master perform exorcism rituals. Just now when I saw Byron making those exorcism hand gestures, and after I saw what happened to him, I just copied what he was doing. I figured since I practice martial arts, I should have some energy, so I silently channeled my qi, hoping to transfer my energy to Byron. I don't know if that's what accidentally helped him?"

Bob thought this made some sense, but then asked, "How come Jasper also said he seemed to see a divine dog, and that the divine dog might have been you?"

I laughed awkwardly, "You were there the whole time just now. I really didn't do anything, and I was standing right in front of you the entire time. Do you think that divine dog was me? I'd guess that since Jasper likes hanging out with me and even sees me as a brother, being just a kid, when he saw the divine dog come to save him, his subconscious made him hope that divine beast was me."

After saying this, I couldn't help but admire myself a bit—how did I get so smooth at making up stories?

After witnessing everything that just happened, Bob probably didn't completely believe in ghosts and spirits either. After all, it didn't happen to him personally, and his education made it impossible for him to accept this superstitious stuff, so he chose to believe me.

"Thanks for your hard work!" Bob patted my shoulder. "You've been here for a day and two nights. Go home and rest. Tonight I'll..."

Before he could finish, Jasper called out from inside, "I want Nolan, I want Nolan!"

Several elderly people were trying to coax Jasper to sleep, but Jasper insisted on having me with him.

As soon as Bob and I entered the room, Jasper tried to climb out of bed. I quickly walked to his side and lay down next to him. Only then did Jasper burrow his little head into my arms and say to the elderly folks, "Stop making noise, I want to sleep."

They had originally planned to send Jasper back to the infectious disease hospital, but seeing that his condition had completely improved and that he was clinging to me...

Bob, who had wanted to send me home, had to compromise. Not only did he let Jasper stay, but he also somewhat sheepishly asked me to stay one more night to help look after Jasper and Chloe, then sent the four elderly people home.

Dane and Cordelia didn't mind much. Besides, it was too late, so after Bob spoke, they got ready to leave.

As for Noah and Sabrina, since they had already sensed the nature of my relationship with Chloe, seeing Bob agree to let me stay made them feel a bit weird.

Fortunately, both Chloe and her son were sick, and there was a caregiver sleeping on a cot nearby. Even if I had something going on with Chloe, we wouldn't do anything in a hospital room.

Once they thought this through, their expressions improved. After the elderly people said goodbye to Chloe and her son, they immediately left with Bob.

The caregiver immediately went to the bathroom, got a mop, and mopped the room clean.

The caregiver's main job was actually to take care of Chloe's IV drips and help with bathroom needs and such.

Since there were no IV drips at night, she could sleep well.

Because it got so late, by the time we went to bed it was almost 2 AM. The caregiver fell asleep quickly, and Jasper slept even more soundly.

I was planning to just fall asleep like that, but unexpectedly Chloe softly called out, "Come here, sleep with me."

Was she serious? She hadn't had surgery on her leg yet—calling me over now, was she looking for trouble?

Hospital beds are particularly small. Jasper and I could sleep in one bed together, but if Chloe's body was fine, we could sleep squeezed together.

The problem was her leg couldn't be touched. Even with the railings up on both sides, a small hospital bed couldn't fit two adults.

I didn't respond to her and didn't move.

But then Chloe said quietly again, "Stop pretending, I know you're not asleep."

Come to think of it, she was right. In the small dark room upstairs at her place, we'd slept in the same bed more than once. She knew exactly what I was like when I was sound asleep—no amount of pretending could fool her.

I had to get up, move to her side, kiss her on the cheek, then whisper, "Go to sleep. The caregiver is lying right at our feet—don't wake her up."

Chloe turned her face and kissed me. "I miss you. If you don't hold me, I can't sleep."

I could only touch her chest a bit. "Be good, listen. Go to sleep early. You just went through so much—it'll probably take days to recover."

Chloe gazed at me and suddenly asked, "Don't you think it's strange? Not just Jasper—when I passed out, what appeared before my eyes was you too."

"What?"

"That Byron and Jasper also talked about some divine talent. Although my feeling of falling into a black hole was the same as theirs, while I was falling, I saw your hand reach down from the top of the hole, grab my arm, and pull me straight up. But at that time, we weren't wearing anything. My body was pressed tight against your bronze-colored body, and it actually made me feel a bit shy."

I gently pinched her nose. "Getting turned on, are you?"

Chloe rolled her eyes at me. "I'm telling you the truth. There's something else really strange—at the time I felt like you were a king, or the king of heaven and earth. I was your woman, but not the queen. More like a concubine or something, and we had some kind of destiny together."

This was somewhat similar to the dream I had, except in my dream, all these women were a bunch of foxes, and I really was that divine dog.

I quickly asked, "What else did you dream about?"
