Chapter 58 058
Chapter 58 058
SOFIA
Ignorance.
At least I am utmost grateful that I could read and write. Perhaps, illiteracy would have the end of me.
I sighed repeatedly.
My eyes scrolled through the document once again…
A document again? After the whole stress of signing a contract and putting me through a marriage.
Perhaps, my eyes weren't seeing right so I looked again. “What is this about?” I uttered out loudly as I read through the document.
Before I could do a thing, Steven rang up my phone that very minute.
This had to be about the document in front of me, I was so damn sure of it.
“Hello…” I answered in a cold manner.
“Have you signed the documents already?” He asked in a haste. Suddenly, I do not matter but my signature.
How inhumane.
“I haven't cause I don't understand what is in there,” I answered…
“You don't what? I don't get. When do I have to explain what a document is to you before you sign it? Just look at it like one of the documents you failed to sign for the marriage deal,” he said out loud over the phone.
“One of the documents? So are you saying I am not done with every signature that has to do with the marriage contract, but I thought…..”
“Hold it right there…pffff..are you blind to see who you are talking to on the phone or what? What makes you think you can talk to me that way?”
I almost snapped.
Does he think I'm a puppet or what?
First, he is cheating on me with some girl I don't know. I refuse to talk about it and now he is still controlling me like I am his slave.
This is bullshit.
My head raged with loud voice and rude tones but I dared not speak.
“Steven….what I am seeing in those documents look so foreign to me. It says that we are both agreeing to taking premium control to over 63 estates owned by your father. Does that really include me? Cause so far, I only get an allowance,” I spoke in defense.
He cleared his throat on the call..
“Now listen to me, Sofia. If you don't want me to send you out of my home, sign those documents right away…” he threatened.
Can he really do that? Doesn't that mean the marriage will be questioned?
I paused again. What if he actually does it? Where would I go? Where do I start from?
A lot of questions came up in my head.
“So are you going to sign that document or you still want to argue with me?” He asked over the phone.
I couldn't respond. “I'm going to call you back in few minutes. Make sure you have done the needful and give it to Thomas to bring it over here…”
He ended the call immediately and I just couldn't but stare at the document sitting in front of me.
“What have I gotten myself into?” I voiced out of frustration.
“Why do I even have to worry? After all, I am only here for a while. Since Steven doesn't love me back as much as I love him, I might as well just do what he wants and act all normal till I'm out of here…
I got a pen that minute and as I placed my hands on the paper to sign…
A knock on the door distracted me, “I am already doing it,” I answered without getting up, thinking it was Steven's bodyguard coming to check in.
“We have someone downstairs waiting for you, Mrs. Gold,” the voice of a different bodyguard rented the air.
I stood up immediately, “Is it my friend, Kiki?” I said as I pop my head out slightly from the door.
“Not at all. It’s Mr. Gold's Uncle. He is requesting to see you, ma'am…”
What again does that man want? Coming here to tell me things that keeps disturbing my mind?
“I've had enough already,” I cried out.
I suspended all I was doing and went outside to meet him…I passed by Thomas who stood and signaled for the document but I ignored him, “Not done yet,” I muttered.
“Oh, look at the lovely wife of my brother's son,” the voice of Uncle Greg captured the entire living room as he greeted me.
He was indeed showing me off to the other aged man standing beside him.
“This is my childhood friend, Salem….we came to pay you a visit,” he said.
I sighed. A visit? This is sure the wrong time. I don't even think I am in the right senses to accommodate one.
“This is quite sweet of you, Sir but my husband isn't home now….” I answered.
“Oh, don't be so petty. Of course, I know that. I mean your husband is literally onto something that isn't really his place but anyways it's fine. That is not why we are here. Actually, Steven hasn't done so well after your marriage and that is what I have chosen to do as his Uncle…”
At first, everywhere became still.
“What is this again? How do I get out of what is about to happen?”
They both sat down and just within that happening, Thomas walked up to me once again and whispered to my ears, “The boss just called again…he is expecting me back at the office with the signed documents. Please do something about it now, I don't want to lose my job…”
“Did your husband ever tell you you have a right to certain things as his wife?” The voice of Uncle Greg suddenly interrupted.
“Uhn, you say?”
“Oh….marriage binds you both not only in union but also in inheritance, my dear,” he explained further.
Wait, does that mean what I think it means? But whatever it is, it can't be valid cause this marriage isn't really real but only a contract.
I pondered as those words hit me, expecting to hear more.
“My dear, you are the only wife of your husband. You should be enjoying a lot. My brother has enormous possessions and I am sure Steven might not even discover them all but I mean, marriage makes those things visible and known to him so it's a good advantage,” he said, placing his hands around his mustache.
“But why are you telling me this?” I asked, just to buy myself more time as I saw Thomas already tapping his feet and hands.
“Because…….”
He paused and looked at his friend and smiled….
“......I don't want you to be cheated and being coerced to do what you aren't supposed to do.”
My God…
How did he know that is the exact situation I'm in right now?
Should I just tell him about the document so he could help me out.
The tension in the room rose as my eyes met with Thomas and I noticed his was on Uncle Greg.
My heart skipped a beat.
