Memories
Alana's POV
“I'm assuming Ryan is now the owner of everything, right? The mansion, the company?”
“Yes.”
“And he hasn't cleared it out yet?”
“Can you just go straight to the point?”
“There's something in my study. I'm not sure it's still there if it's been cleared, but I kept it there for malicious reasons. Now I'd like you to fetch it because I have a feeling it will heal his soul.”
“And what's that?”
“You know his mother. The only human he's ever loved aside from you. He only speaks highly of her and he's hurting everyday. A recording of her voice on tape. I have it in a flash drive, so I'm sure he'll love to listen.”
“You're serious?” My eyes lit up. I was actually getting a little happy. She nodded.
“He'll love it. It's a gift from me. I've been the worst mom. I don't know how to be sorry but I'm willing to try. His father is the most fucked up man I've ever met, of course after his brother, Sean.”
Oh I remember Sean. Made out with him and all. Disgusting memory, but I was well pleased, knowing fully well my eyes were getting puffy and a few tears were very interested in slipping past my eyelids at this news.
“And it's in your study?”
“Yes. My desk. Please let it be a surprise. I know it can't atone for my sins but I'm willing to keep trying.”
Lucinda was definitely a terrible person, but I was the most grateful for this.
I stood up to leave but just before weaving past the door, I turned back to ask her a question.
“I just want to know, if you weren't like this, would you have given him the recording?”
She smiled then shook her head. At least she was honest.
“Probably not. I'm a bitch, remember? It wouldn't even occur to me ever, but there's more to life.”
“Yeah you are.” I nodded in agreement, a smile dragging my lips upwards.
“Yeah, he locked me up in prison so I'm mad but I did a lot of thinking. I deserve to be a better person.”
“I don't know about that, Lucinda.” With that I headed out, thinking about all the fun times I had with Lucinda before everything.
I walked past an anxious looking Ryan, with every intention to head to the car, straight for the mansion.
He followed closely behind me, and apparently, he had been boiling but I was too in my head to notice. He grabbed me by my arm, made me turn around to face him, then he stood so overpoweringly in front of me, breathing hard.
“What did she say to you? I'm in no mood for your teasing.”
“Hey! I'm pregnant, be kind. You'll see. Just let me lead the way.”
“I don't trust her.”
“Well I do, so you should trust me. Even if it ends up being a bad decision, you still should.”
He took a deep breath then followed me as I told him our next stop was the mansion. When we arrived, I told him to show me to her office and when we reached, in that pile of rubbish, I found the flash drive.
“Here. For you.” I handed it over to him and he just looked at me, but he still took it.
“What's this?” He was deeply curious, a tad bit suspicious. He did not like this situation at all.
“You might want to open it when we get home. Come on, let's go.”
The drive home was rather long, the atmosphere a bit strange. Ryan was lackadaisical about the drive but I eventually got him to check out the contents after dinner and a nice shower together.
Yup, I barely eat without him feeding me and he doesn't even let me shower without his help. I'm not sure I like those rules that much, but I'm accommodating because I believe I'll change him slowly, just like I've always done.
He pulled out his laptop, and we curled up in bed together as per my demands just because I knew what to expect.
When it finally came on, it was an audio, and I felt his body shake upon hearing her voice.
His whole attention was now focused on the laptop, and he seemed like he couldn't believe his ears. His mother's voice, the most buttery I had ever heard, she was laughing in the audio, talking about a business she wanted to start, clearly this empire today.
She seemed really happy, and I watched my husband shed a tear as we replayed it over and over again just for him.
“How?” His voice shook badly, like he wanted to cry some more.
“What do you mean how?” I couldn't understand his question.
Then he faced me, his eyes red but beautiful, so beautiful to get lost in.
“How do you have this? Who gave you this? Just, how?” He couldn't believe what was happening, and I understood.
“Lucinda. She asked me to give it to you, as a gift.” I told him truthfully.
“I feel like I can't breathe well, like my heart is–” I patted him on his chest softly, hoping it would calm his heart down.
“Oh, you're alright. You're alright, I promise. Do you love it?” Clearly he did but what's the fun in not asking?
“Are you kidding me? I almost forgot what she sounded like. This is the most thoughtful gift I've ever gotten. How did you make her give it up?”
Give it up? Please.
“I didn't. She just told me where it was and asked me to give it to you.” He didn't seem entirely convinced.
“What else does she want? My wife is not available for a bisexual woman in exchange.” I hit his chest as I heard the absurdity that spilled from his mouth. I will never accept her, but at least I had the same thoughts too, so we are both traumatized.
“You're overreacting. No, nothing like that. Clearly she wasn't remorseful, but she said she was willing to try, and I believe her.”
“Then I'm glad we saw her for once. Thank you, Wifey. I'll cherish this forever.”
“I know you will, you're welcome.”
