Chapter 744: Are you trying to pull a 'Parent Trap' on us?
Chapter 744: Are you trying to pull a 'Parent Trap' on us?
I felt a chill run down my spine when I heard that. There were so many ways to grab an audience's attention, so why did this guy have to bring up flowers?
“How many flowers do you want?” the masked man asked, grinning.
Someone in the crowd spoke up, confused, “What do flowers have to do with this? Aren’t you gonna do a vanishing act?”
“You just need to answer me. Wouldn’t you like to see petals flying everywhere?” The masked man’s grin widened.
After a moment of hesitation, someone responded, “Sure.”
The masked man snapped his fingers, and the figure under the red cloth vanished instantly.
He then lifted the red cloth, and countless butterflies fluttered out, filling the room like vibrant petals.
The crowd gasped in amazement, followed by thunderous applause.
I frowned. I had been watching the red cloth intently, but I hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
The trick had worked, but where had the girl gone?
I scanned the crowd quickly but couldn’t find any trace of her.
Could it be some kind of advanced technology? Did the girl turn into those butterflies?
I quickly dismissed the absurd thought, shaking my head.
“Where’s the girl? Can she come back?” someone finally voiced the concern.
The masked man nodded with a smile, “Of course, she can come back. Just repeat after me.”
“Beautiful flower, how many stems do you have?”
This time, everyone cooperated, their emotions completely under the masked man’s control.
“Beautiful flower, how many stems do you have?”
The crowd’s chant had an eerie quality, reminiscent of a choir reciting a hymn, but without any sacredness—more like summoning a demon.
“Now, behold a miracle,” the masked man said, guiding the butterflies back to form a human shape.
He then covered it with the red cloth.
If I hadn’t seen the butterflies form the shape, I would have thought the girl was still standing there.
“Who do you think is under the cloth?” the masked man asked the crowd.
“It must be the girl from before,” someone answered.
The masked man snapped his fingers again, “Congratulations, you guessed right.”
He lifted the red cloth, revealing not one, but two identical girls.
A shiver ran down my spine as I exchanged a worried glance with Royce. Were they planning to replace someone right in front of us?
Was this what they wanted to show Royce and me?
They were blatantly challenging us, as if we didn’t matter at all.
“Why are there two? Is one of them a plant?” someone asked.
The masked man feigned exaggerated surprise, “This wasn’t how we rehearsed it!”
The crowd burst into laughter, without any hint of malice.
The masked man moved to cover the girls again, but someone stopped him.
“Hold up, are you trying to pull a 'Parent Trap' on us?” a middle-aged man asked.
He walked up to inspect the girls, checking for any differences.
There wouldn’t be any. I had been staring at them since they appeared, and they were identical down to the curve of their hair. It was like a one-to-one copy.
As expected, the middle-aged man returned to his seat, frowning.
“How did you do it? They look exactly the same, and they’re both real.”
The masked man shrugged innocently, “Honestly, I don’t know how the trick turned out this way. But you can talk to them, maybe you can tell which one is real.”
The crowd was still in good spirits, treating it as part of the act.
They started asking the girls questions, but their answers, expressions, and gestures were identical.
“Not even twins could be this identical,” I thought, feeling my brain about to explode.
How did he do it?
Royce leaned on my shoulder, looking even more serious.
“Have Savannah and the others replied to you?”
I was momentarily stunned, then remembered to check my phone.
I shook my head at Royce, but he showed me his phone.
He had messaged Simon, who had replied almost instantly.
Simon said they had already left the venue.
“How is that possible? The event is still going on,” I thought.
Joanna and Savannah had also messaged Royce, saying they couldn’t reach me.
“My phone has a signal,” I said, comparing my phone again. Still no replies.
But I could send messages and browse the internet…
“We can discuss this later. Should we leave now?” Royce asked.
I hesitated, wanting to figure out the magic trick.
Suddenly, the crowd gasped.
Royce and I looked over and saw that the masked man had doubled.
“What just happened?” I asked a nearby spectator.
“You didn’t see? The magician suspected the red cloth, so he covered himself with it. When he uncovered it, there were two of him.”
The spectator’s eyes never left the stage.
I frowned, wondering what the masked man’s goal was.
“This is pretty interesting. I’ve never seen a performance like this,” the spectator added.
I nodded absentmindedly, watching the two identical masked men, like reflections in a mirror.
“How dare you impersonate me,” they said simultaneously, shocking everyone.
The crowd was thoroughly entertained, forgetting this was a formal event.
“Fight it out! Whoever wins is the real one,” someone shouted.
Royce and I exchanged a look, thinking they wouldn’t actually fight. But we were proven wrong.
