Chapter 193: What's the Situation
Chapter 193: What's the Situation
Freya was about to remind Timothy to drink less, but the words froze in her throat before she could speak. She stared blankly at the person behind Timothy, her face suddenly drained of color.
That person was Jessica.
Timothy's ex-girlfriend, the one who had broken up with him years ago.
Had she come back?
Jessica's cheeks were flushed red—clearly she'd been drinking. Wearing high heels, she stumbled toward Timothy.
When Timothy turned around, Jessica immediately broke into a bright smile and threw herself into his arms.
"Timothy, it really is you! They said you'd be here, but I didn't dare believe it—I was afraid they were lying to me. But I couldn't help wanting to come see, just in case you actually showed up!"
Timothy's body went stiff, but he didn't immediately push her away.
Behind Jessica were several male classmates of varying heights and builds. They'd just had a small gathering and had all been drinking. Plus, Timothy and Jessica had been a recognized couple in college, so everyone couldn't help making a few jokes.
"After all these years, Jessica still only has eyes for Timothy."
"True. When I called to invite her, she had other plans, but the moment I mentioned Timothy's name, she immediately told me to send her the address."
"And Timothy too—at first he said he wasn't coming, but as soon as I mentioned Jessica's name, he got here faster than any of us."
Everyone finally noticed Freya standing to the side and quickly shut up.
Timothy seemed to snap out of it then and tried to push Jessica away, but she used the alcohol as an excuse to cling tightly to his waist, refusing to let go.
"Timothy, I really regret it now. I was too impulsive back then. Even though Freya set you up, you still slept with another woman, and I left in anger."
"Later, I figured it out—all of this was Freya's fault, not yours. No matter how careful you are, you can't protect yourself from someone determined to harm you. After losing you, I couldn't sleep at night abroad, and I realized none of that matters. As long as you have me in your heart, you're still the one I love most."
When Jessica finished speaking, the room fell silent, the atmosphere frozen.
Timothy's hands didn't know where to go, and Freya's face was even paler, as if all the color had drained from it.
Just then, Ophelia walked in and saw Timothy with a woman in his arms while Freya stood to the side looking awful.
Ophelia's face darkened. She strode over, grabbed Jessica's shoulder, and forcibly pulled her out of Timothy's embrace.
"Hugging someone else's husband—you think that's fun?"
Ophelia showed no mercy. After pulling Jessica away, she stumbled backward several steps and would have fallen if the man behind her hadn't caught her.
Jessica looked indignant and was about to speak when Timothy quickly explained to Ophelia, "Ophelia, you've got it wrong. This is Jessica Morgan, a college classmate of William's and mine. She had a bit to drink and couldn't keep her balance, so I was just helping her."
After speaking, he secretly glanced at Freya's expression.
Freya lowered her head, no longer looking at Timothy, her face still deathly pale.
Ophelia immediately tried to figure out if Timothy was telling the truth. Jessica's cheeks were indeed flushed red, and she smelled of alcohol—what Timothy said seemed accurate.
But that woman's name was Jessica?
Ophelia immediately looked at Freya. No wonder her face looked so bad—Timothy's "first love" had returned to the country.
Ophelia turned to look at Jessica, her tone casual. "Sorry, you were holding on so tight just now, I thought some random woman was hitting on him. Are you okay?"
With Jessica's old personality, she definitely would have fired back, but now the other person clearly knew Timothy, so Jessica had to hold her tongue.
"I'm fine."
Ophelia nodded. "Good."
Ophelia's appearance also gave everyone a good excuse, and they all tactfully stopped mentioning what Jessica had just said.
Timothy took the opportunity to introduce Ophelia to everyone. "This is Ophelia Taylor, Investment Director at Synergy Innovations Group, and William's wife."
Most of Timothy's college classmates were locals and in the same major as Ophelia, so knowing her was normal.
Many had heard Ophelia's name but never had a chance to meet her—today they finally did.
After the introduction, everyone came over to say hello.
Ophelia responded to each one, and afterward, everyone invited her to join them, reasoning that since William couldn't make it today, having his family representative attend was quite appropriate.
Ophelia naturally didn't refuse. She took Freya's arm and walked together toward the private room entrance.
Freya was actually very resistant psychologically, but if she refused now, it would only embarrass Timothy, so she could only bite the bullet and follow.
After everyone arrived, the people in the private room were stunned to see Freya enter.
Back then, the situation with Timothy, Freya, and Jessica was known throughout their entire department. Timothy had been a campus celebrity, and his relationship with Jessica had spread all over school. Later, Jessica was even scouted by a talent agent, making it a huge deal.
But the storm quickly passed because Timothy's family announced the engagement.
At the time, everyone said Freya had used the arranged marriage as an excuse to forcibly break up a couple, and Freya's reputation in their circle had been terrible.
Seeing Freya now, the atmosphere immediately became awkward. Most people still sided more with Jessica—after all, Jessica was their classmate, while Freya was just Timothy's arranged marriage partner. Everyone had privately badmouthed Freya before.
Seeing Freya, no one felt comfortable.
And seeing Jessica behind Timothy, everyone felt even more awkward, wishing they could disappear.
How did these three people end up appearing together?
Fortunately, with Ophelia there, after an awkward moment, everyone quickly greeted Ophelia warmly, trying hard to look busy.
After everyone sat down, only three empty seats remained, right next to Jessica.
Jessica enthusiastically called Timothy over to sit. Ophelia sat down directly and pulled Freya to sit beside her. Timothy looked around and finally sat naturally in the remaining seat.
