Chapter 190: Godson
Chapter 190: Godson
William sat on the bed, and his mind went blank. He quickly grabbed the pregnancy test report and stared at the results, still finding it hard to believe. At this moment, all he could hear was his own violent heartbeat.
He looked up at Ophelia in a daze.
Timothy, who was nearby and had just heard the news, also looked shocked. But he reacted faster than William, leaning over to look at the pregnancy report and exclaiming repeatedly, "William, you're pretty impressive."
Seeing William frozen there, Ophelia found it somewhat amusing. She waved her hand in front of his eyes, then leaned down and gently kissed him.
"You're going to be a dad. Are you happy?"
William was happy inside, but more than that, he felt shocked and uneasy.
"But we always..."
Ophelia nodded calmly, unable to hide a hint of mischief in her eyes.
"I was the one who prepared everything. It's too late to talk about this now. You'd better get ready to be a dad. Let me ask you - are you still getting this divorce or not?"
William finally caught on.
"So the two-month trial period you mentioned wasn't actually about helping me recover my memory, but about having a baby?"
Ophelia admitted it frankly.
"That's right."
Her complete honesty left William stunned.
William fell silent, his hands gripping the blanket tightly, as if trying hard to suppress his emotions. Seeing the veins bulging on the back of his hands, Ophelia stepped forward, wanting to hold his hand and help him relax.
The emotions he'd been holding in these past few days finally found an outlet. The moment Ophelia's hand touched his, William suddenly shook her off and shouted, losing control:
"Ophelia, are you stupid? Wouldn't it be better to just get divorced? Why do you have to have a baby? A child will only hold you back!"
William's eyes were red, his voice hoarse, and the corners of his eyes were already wet.
"You're still young. You could totally find someone who loves you more. How will this child face things in the future? Are you going to tell them this is you and your..."
At this point, William couldn't bring himself to say "ex-husband."
Timothy had been watching the drama unfold from the side, but seeing William actually get angry, he quickly shrank back onto the sofa, trying to make himself invisible. He wanted to see what William would do next.
William couldn't continue. He just felt wronged. Tears rolled down his usually stubborn face. All Ophelia could think was that he looked really good when he cried.
She suddenly felt that what people said online about making your boyfriend cry was quite an achievement was really true.
Watching William cry, Ophelia found it particularly interesting and couldn't help pulling out her phone and pressing the record button.
William was already very emotional, and seeing Ophelia actually recording and even laughing, he felt both angry and helpless, but somehow she made him want to laugh despite himself.
"Ophelia! Can you be serious! You can't keep this baby!"
Ophelia reluctantly turned off her phone.
"Can't keep it? You mean you want me to abort the baby? I didn't know you were such an irresponsible person."
"Anyway, I won't abort this baby. You have two choices now: either we stay together and raise this child together, or you find me someone else. As long as someone is willing to accept the baby in my belly, I'll divorce you. If you can't do that, then you can only choose the first option."
William had no comeback and could only argue quietly, "I'm thinking about you too."
Ophelia nodded and took the opportunity to press on, "If you really want a divorce, then find me someone willing to be a dad. After I divorce you, when the child can call someone else daddy, if you're still alive, you might even get to see it with your own eyes. If you're happy to watch that, I don't mind."
Timothy quietly gave Ophelia a thumbs-up from the side.
This move of Ophelia's was really clever. William was so angry that he almost passed out.
William had always been jealous. In the past, if any man so much as looked at Ophelia twice, he felt uncomfortable. Now asking him to let his own child call someone else daddy - even if he died, he'd probably roll over in his grave.
Ophelia stood up, smiled, and gently patted his shoulder.
"The decision is in your hands. Think it over carefully."
After Ophelia left, William finally let his guard down. He picked up the report again, his eyes full of complex emotions - joy, surprise, worry, and helplessness. Looking at him, Timothy couldn't figure out what he was thinking anymore.
Seeing William laughing one moment and crying the next, Timothy sighed and stepped forward.
"William, you're really useless. Ophelia dares to move forward, but you keep backing away?"
William ignored him, so Timothy had to try a different approach.
"Since you insist on divorcing, I can help keep an eye out for Ophelia's second condition. There are so many rich and powerful men in Empire City - there must be someone suitable. If that doesn't work, there's still Sunrise City. Hasn't Gregory always liked her? If I mention it to him, maybe Gregory can arrange some blind dates for her."
"When Ophelia gets married, I'll definitely send a big gift, yours included. When the child grows up, I'll play matchmaker again. Maybe you can even make him your godson."
William slapped Timothy's hand away and said through gritted teeth, "What godson? That's my biological son!"
Timothy was right. As long as Ophelia was willing, Gregory could find her a bunch of suitable men.
William gritted his teeth, his voice so low it was almost inaudible, "If you dare introduce men to her, I'll settle the score with you even if I have to crawl there! What divorce? I'm not getting divorced anymore!"
After leaving the hospital, Ophelia met up with Freya for dinner. Early this morning, Freya had been called away by her mother-in-law and only became free in the afternoon.
Ophelia was preparing things for Christmas. All the household matters fell on her shoulders. Eleanor was still working overtime at the hospital, so these things could only be handled by her.
Freya was the first person to know about Ophelia's pregnancy. It was her idea to buy the pregnancy test in the first place.
"Actually, if you didn't want to divorce, there were other ways. I can see that William can't bring himself to separate from you at all. Why did you have to get pregnant? You'll have to take care of the baby and William in the future. It'll be too exhausting."
Ophelia took a sip of soup and spoke slowly, "Actually, it's not just about avoiding divorce. Mainly, Mike told me that William's chances of recovery are very slim. I need to give him hope."
