Chapter 491 What Have You Hidden from Me
Chapter 491 What Have You Hidden from Me
Another gunshot rang out.
One second before the knife could pierce Alice's chest, Michael fired with precision, hitting the hospital-gowned woman's wrist.
The knife clattered to the ground as the woman groaned in pain and collapsed.
"No!" Alice screamed, rushing to help the fallen woman, but Michael yanked her into his arms.
"Look carefully at who she is!" Michael held Alice tight, preventing her from struggling.
After two gunshots, Alice had completely lost her composure, shaking her head frantically. "No, call an ambulance, call an ambulance! My mom, my mom!"
"Look carefully!" Michael gripped her chin, forcing her to look at the woman on the ground.
"Call an ambulance..." Alice's voice cut off abruptly as she stared in disbelief at the woman on the ground.
It was a young face. Aside from the hospital gown and similar hairstyle to Ivy, even her build was completely different.
Alice stood frozen, unable to process what she was seeing. She'd instinctively assumed this woman was Ivy—had she been misled?
Michael quickly pulled her back while his bodyguards immediately surrounded both the hospital-gowned woman and the car.
David's subordinate stared at the scene in disbelief. "No, this isn't right. What's going on?"
"Idiot!" Michael shot him a cold glance. "Just as stupid as your boss!"
"You... you knew all along?" Alice's eyes widened as she stared at him.
He'd known about David's betrayal from the start, so had he been guarding against her, too?
She turned to look at the woman lying motionless on the ground, panic flooding through her. After all these years with Michael, she'd never known he could use a gun!
"Michael, where's my mom? Who is this person? Where is she?" Alice clutched his shirt, her eyes filled with terror.
Michael only held her tighter, his lips pressed into a thin line.
"Michael, tell me—where's my mom? Did something happen to her?" Alice's voice cracked with tears, but Michael just looked toward the direction behind them.
More than a dozen cars came speeding toward them. His arms tightened around Alice.
The first car stopped beside them. The window rolled down, revealing Serafina's face.
She glanced at the fallen woman, then at Alice. "Looking for your mom?"
"Serafina, you know where she is, don't you?" Alice's eyes burned red as she stared at her. "What did you do to her?"
"Me? Alice, you're overthinking this. Michael's so capable—how could it be my turn to do anything?" Serafina shook her head with a smile. "But your mom definitely can't make it here."
"What are you saying?" Alice tried to step forward, but Michael held her firmly.
Serafina laughed lightly at the sight. "Michael didn't tell you? Your mom's dead. She's dead—how could she come?"
Something exploded in Alice's mind.
Was her mom dead? How was that possible?
She'd just visited her. The doctor had said Ivy could wake up at any time. How could she be dead?
Looking at Serafina's smile, Alice shook her head frantically. "No, you're lying. You have to be lying!"
Serafina was best at manipulation—she definitely had an agenda, saying this now!
Alice kept telling herself not to believe Serafina, but her body began trembling uncontrollably. Serafina never struck without a simple reason!
"Don't believe me? Then what's this?" Serafina tossed over a small bag.
The moment she saw the bag, Alice broke free from Michael's embrace.
This was the bag her mom used for her artificial heart battery!
Since Ivy had to carry the battery constantly and monitor the charge, Alice had bought her this bag so she could carry the battery without looking too strange.
With shaking hands, she opened the bag to find the artificial heart battery and charger inside!
Alice staggered, barely able to stand.
Without the battery, an artificial heart couldn't last long. Without immediate medical intervention, the heart would stop beating.
She looked up, glaring furiously at Serafina. "Why do you have my mom's battery? Serafina, answer me! Where is my mom?"
She rushed forward desperately, but Serafina simply rolled up her window and waved at her.
"Bastard! Explain yourself! Where exactly is my mom?" Alice pounded on the car window while Serafina just smiled at her, as if watching an entertaining show.
Michael stood behind her, fists clenched tight, his eyes fixed on Serafina with murderous intent.
Eric stepped out of another car and pulled Alice away. "Enough. She's right—your mom is dead. My condolences."
"No! I don't believe it!" Alice turned around, tears streaming down her face.
Michael stepped forward and pulled Alice into his arms. Leaning against his chest, Alice felt her world collapsing.
"Baby, I'll explain everything when we get back. Let's go first." Michael moved to take Alice away.
Eric raised an eyebrow. "Alice, didn't you watch the memory card I gave you?"
Alice looked at him in confusion.
She'd been looking for a chance to watch it, but Michael wouldn't let her near any electronic devices. She simply hadn't had time.
Eric nodded knowingly. "That's what I figured. Otherwise, how could you possibly leave with him?"
He clapped his hands, and immediately a vehicle equipped with LED screens drove over.
Michael's muscles tensed. "Alice, let's go."
"Mr. Johnson, go where? You're married now—shouldn't Alice know certain things?" Eric gestured behind him as the LED screen lit up. "Alice, if you haven't watched it, that's fine. I'll show you now—same difference."
The screen instantly switched to show Ivy's hospital room.
Michael stood by the bed while Ivy looked agitated.
"Johnson? Your last name is Johnson! What's your relationship to Vaughn Johnson?"
"He's my father."
"Vaughn is your dad! He... he's actually your father!"
"You bastard! This was all planned by you people. You married Alice for the ledger! You bastard!"
"What are you going to do to Alice? Where is she? Did you lock her up?"
On screen, Ivy's complexion grew worse as she gasped for breath. But Michael stood there expressionless, demanding to know where the ledger was.
Another gunshot rang out as Michael shattered the LED screen.
But only two screens went black—the others continued playing, sound blasting from speakers across the entire beach.
"I'm warning you—if you die, no one will protect her."
"She likes me so much, yet she ran off with another man?"
"Where's the ledger?"
Ivy's agitated voice formed a stark contrast with Michael's cold tone.
As Michael raised his gun again, Alice stepped directly in front of him.
"Michael!" She glared at him through gritted teeth. "I want to hear the rest! I want to see what else you've been hiding from me!"
