Chapter 490: Mom Wants to Kill Her
Glenn slammed into David's car with zero intention of braking, ramming him straight into the opposite side of the alley.
David was forced to stop. "Damn it!"
Without a word, Glenn threw open his door and stormed out, trapping David in the narrow space.
"David, you backstabbing piece of—do you have any idea what you're doing?"
Rage consumed Glenn as he drove his foot into David's stomach.
David didn't dodge, taking the brutal kick head-on. Pain exploded through his ribs and organs. He clutched his abdomen, rolling his neck a few times. "I know exactly what I'm doing."
"Did you forget who saved your sorry ass? You were like a dying stray dog when Michael found you! And now you're helping Zaid? Have you lost your goddamn mind?" Glenn's teeth ground together in fury.
All these years, he'd genuinely considered David a friend. Sure, most of their rich-boy crew looked down on people, but their group had never once treated David as lesser. Knowing David's loyalty to Michael, Glenn had always seen him as family.
That's what made this betrayal cut so deep.
David let out a bitter laugh. "Me, helping Zaid? You're the one who's lost it!"
Glenn froze, confusion flickering across his face.
David straightened up slowly. "Weren't you the one who said if I liked someone, I should go for it? That I should never let go?"
Glenn's eyes widened as understanding crashed over him like ice water.
He had feelings for Alice?
He had feelings for Michael's woman?
"David, you've completely lost it! Alice belongs to Michael—are you out of your mind?" If Glenn had known David's target was Alice, he would've bitten his tongue off before giving that advice.
"You're the one who's lost it!" Michael's sports car screeched onto the scene. He leaped out and stalked toward David with deadly purpose.
Seeing him, David dropped to his knees. "Michael, you gave me this life—you can take whatever you want from me, I won't say a word. Just please, let Alice go. She's going to die!"
David felt like he was truly going insane. But remembering the desperate resolve in Alice's eyes, he forced the words out through clenched teeth. "Keeping her caged like this—she really will die!"
Michael's hand cracked across his face with vicious force. "You're the one who's going to get her killed!"
Without another glance at David, Michael spun around and got back in his car.
David remained kneeling on the asphalt, fists clenched white-knuckle tight.
What did Michael mean? He wasn't angry about David taking Alice, but said David would be the one to kill her?
He looked toward the direction the wedding car had disappeared, dread coiling in his stomach like a living thing. Something terrible was about to happen.
As the car passed him, David caught a clear glimpse of what Michael held in his hand—a gun!
David's heart shot into his throat. Instinctively, he scrambled to his feet to follow, but Glenn blocked his path.
"David, this ends here."
Glenn signaled to his backup. Four men immediately moved in to restrain David.
The wedding car raced forward, the driver already drenched in cold sweat. Finally reaching a crossroads, the tires hit a spike strip and blew out, forcing him to stop.
The moment the car lurched to a halt, Michael's uncle and aunt began retching violently. At their age, the high-speed chase had been too much.
The driver turned to look at Alice. "Mrs. Johnson, you—"
Before he could finish, Alice was already out of the car.
A motorcycle roared up, and the young man riding it glanced at Alice before extending his hand. "Ms. Baker, I'm one of Mr. Jones's men. Quick, get on! I'll take you to the harbor!"
Alice recognized him as one of David's regular subordinates. Without hesitation, she ripped away the heavy wedding dress train and climbed onto the bike.
The driver panicked completely, frantically dialing Michael's number. "Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson—"
"I know. Thanks for your help." Michael hung up with an expressionless face. "Stefan, pursue them."
"Yes, sir!" Stefan held his breath and floored the accelerator.
He prayed silently that Alice would be safe.
Just when they thought they'd lost everyone, five or six motorcycles appeared behind them after only two blocks.
David's man cursed under his breath. "Damn! How did they get bikes, too? Ms. Baker, hold tight!"
He took a sharp turn, trying to shake their pursuers, but before they could reach the harbor, two motorcycles flanked them and sent their bike crashing.
Fortunately, seeing trouble coming, the subordinate had slowed down. Alice tumbled into some bushes—shaken but not seriously hurt.
The subordinate struggled to his feet despite his dizziness, positioning himself protectively in front of Alice. "Ms. Baker, when you get the chance, run. I'll hold them off."
"There's nowhere to run." Alice stared at the five or six men surrounding them, her expression grim.
With only one person on her side, holding them off was impossible.
The ocean stretched ahead—they were so close to the harbor.
Just a little further!
She gently touched her stomach. The fall hadn't been too bad, no pain there—the baby should be fine.
The leader stepped forward. "Mrs. Johnson, come with us."
Alice studied him, something felt off. These didn't seem like Michael's men.
So who were they?
An engine roared in the distance as a black Rolls-Royce sped toward them.
The subordinate shielding her voice filled with excitement. "Ms. Baker, that's the car sent to get your mother! They must have succeeded!"
"Alice!" Sure enough, a woman in a hospital gown waved from the car window.
She wore a baseball cap and face mask—Alice couldn't see her clearly, but she still called out, "Mom!"
Hearing her voice, the woman grew frantic. Before the car even stopped, she was running toward Alice.
Just then, a sports car came flying up from behind—Michael's car!
The window rolled down, and Michael leaned out, gun in hand, aimed at the hospital-gowned woman's back.
"Michael, don't! Don't!" By the time Alice realized what was happening and ran toward the woman, Michael had already taken aim and fired.
The bullet struck the woman in the hospital gown. She collapsed, her body tumbling down the slope directly toward Alice.
"Mom! Mommy!" Alice forgot everything else, running toward the fallen woman.
But from his car, Michael shouted urgently, "Alice, it's dangerous!"
Alice heard nothing else, seeing only the woman's blood-soaked hospital gown where the bullet had hit her back. Thinking of her mother's weak heart, tears streamed down Alice's face as she rushed over.
"Mom, are you okay? Mom!"
Alice knelt down, trying to check the woman's injuries.
"Alice, get away! Danger!"
Michael's car had stopped too, and he was sprinting toward Alice with everything he had.
The next second, the supposedly dying woman in the hospital gown suddenly produced a knife, driving it straight toward Alice's heart!
"Mom?"
Alice's eyes went wide with disbelief at what she was seeing.
Her own mother was trying to kill her!
