Chapter 489 Hijacking the Wedding Car
Chapter 489 Hijacking the Wedding Car
Michael nodded. "She won't wake up."
Only then did Harlan smile with satisfaction. "Good, that's what I call triple insurance."
As long as Alice shared common interests with them and the ledger could never be found, there was nothing to worry about. If anything went wrong, they weren't without solutions.
While everyone appeared to be here for the wedding, the other three families had also brought their people. No matter how capable Michael was, he couldn't take on three families at once.
Eric raised another glass of red wine. "What a shame, though. She won't get to see her daughter's wedding. She'll probably regret that."
At that moment in the ICU, hearing the door open, Ivy's eyes snapped wide. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Her voice was hoarse, and she felt dizzy.
Jared quickly stepped forward. "I'm Alice's friend. She sent me to rescue you. Do you know Zaid King? Zaid is my boss."
"Zaid King? He's back?" Ivy's eyes widened. "What about Alice? Is she okay?"
Ivy had naturally heard about Alice's high school "boyfriend" and trusted Jared somewhat.
"Mr. King went to get her. I'm taking you out now, and we'll meet up outside." As Jared spoke, he lifted her onto a wheelchair and put a large coat on her, covering her with a hood so no one could tell who she was.
Within seconds, two more people entered, dragging an unconscious nurse and placing her on the bed.
Michael's bodyguards had just gone to help a bloodied patient and were only now returning. Seeing the wheelchair being pushed by a hospital worker, the two men quickly glanced toward the ICU room.
Confirming the person was still in the room, they both breathed a sigh of relief. Earlier, a car accident victim had collapsed and stopped breathing. With insufficient staff, they'd had to help. But they'd only been gone for two minutes, and with surveillance and password locks, there shouldn't be any problems.
The two men returned to their posts by the door when one suddenly looked toward the bed.
"Wait! Where's her wristband?" He quickly entered the passcode and rushed in. "Lock down the hospital—she's escaped!"
The other bodyguard entered and was also startled to see the nurse's face. He immediately understood. "That wheelchair just now—quick, find someone to stop them. I'll contact Mr. Johnson."
The person Michael had ordered them to watch had been taken away. What would their fate be? Both men shuddered at the thought.
At the wedding venue, Michael's expression grew increasingly grim. His phone suddenly vibrated. He quickly grabbed it, and the moment he saw the message, he headed toward the exit.
"Mr. Johnson, where are you going?"
Before Eric could finish his question, something suddenly exploded in the hall. Everyone was drawn to the sound, turning to see that the LED screen had exploded!
Countless balloons throughout the venue began bursting, scattering powder everywhere.
"There's a bomb!"
Someone shouted, and the crowd instantly panicked. Several bodyguards quickly surrounded Michael while security tried to guide the crowd.
A strange smell filled the air. Michael squinted—flour! If ignited, wouldn't everyone be in danger?
He turned to see Hatty at the entrance holding a remote control.
"Grab that woman!"
At Michael's command, everyone rushed toward Hatty. She had originally blended in with the guests but was discovered faster than expected.
Just as she was about to escape in the chaos, Michael's men seized her.
"Did Zaid send you?" Michael approached, looking down at her.
Hatty turned her head away, clearly not planning to talk.
Clifton ran over. "Michael, is Zaid causing trouble? I wonder how Alice is doing."
Michael's expression paused slightly as he quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Glenn's number.
"Why are you calling him? Didn't David bring the convoy?" Clifton asked, confused. He looked around and realized he hadn't seen Glenn at all. What was going on?
Michael let out a cold laugh. David?
The moment the call connected, Glenn's cursing voice came through. "Michael, that bastard David—damn it, he betrayed us!"
Glenn was racing while shouting furiously. "That bastard hijacked the wedding car! Your uncle and aunt are in there, and Alice too! Damn it!"
The sound of tires screeching against asphalt echoed through the phone, along with numerous car horns. Glenn was tailing the wedding car closely, not daring to let up for a moment.
He initially hadn't understood why Michael insisted he follow the convoy for protection, even deploying over thirty cars. Now he understood—David, that bastard, had betrayed them!
The wedding cars had been following the planned route on a road that had been cleared, when suddenly a dozen SUVs appeared, cutting off all the cars behind them. Not only that, but people on motorcycles began smashing windows.
All the drivers in the convoy had been personally selected by Michael; none of them were David's people. The wedding car driver was especially trusted—an old driver who'd worked for the Johnson family for over twenty years, someone even Michael respected.
Seeing something was wrong, the driver immediately accelerated. That's when David's car pulled alongside. "Turn left! Into the alley!"
The driver instinctively started to turn, but saw motorcycles waiting there too. He gritted his teeth and continued straight ahead.
David's car rammed directly into the passenger side. The passenger seat was empty—Alice had worried something might happen and claimed she'd forgotten jewelry just as they got in the car, sending Mira back to get it and take another car.
Mira hadn't noticed anything suspicious, assuming Alice just didn't trust others with expensive jewelry. Meanwhile, Michael's uncle and aunt were too terrified to speak.
Someone besides Alice had just pulled out a phone when Alice accidentally knocked it away. With the car lurching back and forth, no one had time to retrieve it.
Seeing David about to ram them, the driver had no choice but to turn.
"Mrs. Johnson, hold on tight!" He gritted his teeth and charged toward several motorcycles.
As one of Michael's men, he naturally wouldn't listen to David. Having worked for the Johnson family for so many years, he understood what was happening—someone was trying to kidnap Alice!
No wonder Michael had asked him just the day before to hang in there and drive the wedding car. Michael must have known there was a mole among his people!
The driver knocked over several motorcycles, ignoring anyone who tried to approach, and floored the gas pedal.
David, chasing behind, cursed under his breath. "Damn it! No wonder Michael changed drivers!"
Originally, they'd agreed he would drive Alice for safety, but last night Michael said he was worried about others not handling arrangements well, so he'd switched to a Johnson family driver and put David in charge of the convoy.
"Let's see whose driving is better!" Just as David was about to accelerate and catch up, he was violently rammed from behind.
He looked back in disbelief to see Glenn's furious expression. David licked his lips, understanding everything—Michael had suspected him all along.
