Come to Mommy, Osprey!
Come to Mommy, Osprey!
Tasha (4 months later)
Panic filled me and I struggled to rouse myself from sleep. Maddy kept clawing at me and when I couldn’t wake up fast enough, she took over. She made me leap up and scramble over the guys to grab my robe. They started grumbling as we made our way to the door.
“Where are you going?” Lee asked.
“To check on Osprey,” I said, panicking as I rushed from the room.
I raced down the hall to his room and threw the door open. I ran to his bed and pulled the covers off the bed. I began to frantically look around the room for him when he wasn’t in bed. When he was nowhere to be found in the room, I inhaled and cursed when his scent was faint. I sprinted out of the room, scenting for him.
“OSPREY!,” I yelled as I followed his scent down the stairs.
Hurried footsteps behind me told me the guys had finally gotten up to help me look for him. We all drew up short when the front door was wide open. My panic got stronger and I leaped the rest of the stairs in my rush to find our son while the guys yelled at me from behind. I stopped on the porch to sniff the air for his scent. Finding it, I took off sprinting in the direction it was coming from. It led me to Raul’s house and I ran up the stairs to pound on the door, screaming for them.
“VALERIE! VICTOR! GRANDMA! PLEASE, DO YOU HAVE OSPREY,” I sobbed as I continued to bang on the door.
“Tasha, look,” Falcon said, pointing at the bottom of the door.
I looked down to see small claw marks etched deep into the door. My eyes followed the claw marks to the side of the house. What in the hell was going on? I turned the corner again following the marks around to the back of the house. They stopped at the back door and I looked up at the guys.
“Where is he?,” I asked frantically.
“We don’t know. Fan out. He is here somewhere,” Falcon ordered, his aura flaring out.
My knees wobbled as they all started to go in different directions. Glass shattering made them come back as we all ran in the direction of the break. I turned the corner just in time to see a small furry leg get pulled into the window above the kitchen sink.
“Fuck this!” Falcon growled before going back to the back door.
He kicked it in and we all charged inside. We followed the sounds of footsteps on the stairs up to the main bedroom. I inhaled and my ears strained to hear any noise. Within moments, I knew there was nobody in the house but us. Maddy growled before making me spin around and dash out of the room with the guys behind me. The door shut seconds before I careened around the corner to the stairs. I ran down them and threw the door open.
“OSPREY!,” I screamed as I started racing down the street toward the hospital.
As we neared the hospital, his scent got stronger and I let out a long exhale as I pumped my legs faster. We raced through the hallways, following loud screams that had all of the hair on the backs of our necks up. I slowed when I saw Valerie’s mother trying to restrain a struggling Godric. Falcon ran past me to scoop him up. I bent over with my hands on my knees.
“What the hell is going on?” I asked.
“Valerie is in labor.”
Falcon gripped Godric’s arm. “Enough! Or I will ground you,” he threatened.
Godric instantly stopped struggling and shifted back. Falcon picked him up and carried him away. I glanced at the guys.
“Is she okay though?”
“Yeah. Victor is in there with her. I’m sorry. I was going to call you. He just got here. I didn’t have time. I swear we didn’t-”
I walked over to hug her. “It’s okay. We know. Where are Morgan and Jeremy?”
“In the waiting room watching a movie.”
“What movie?,” I asked curiously as I tried to relax.
“James and the Giant Peach.”
Osprey and Falcon came back to us. I eyed a newly dressed Osprey who kept throwing looks at the door that Valerie’s screams were coming from. He looked up at his father before taking a step toward the door when he saw that Falcon was talking to Raul. Falcon growled and Osprey jumped, looking around guiltily. He pointed to the waiting room where the other kids could be seen pressed against the windows watching us.
“Go sit!” he ordered.
Osprey glared at Falcon who held his gaze with his teeth bared. Osprey’s lips curled up, mirroring his father’s look. I went to step in between the two but Timothy grabbed my hand, making me stay in place. A growl rumbled in Falcon’s chest and fur erupted on his arms. My heart pounded in my chest as I watched the two of them continue their stare-down. Finally, Osprey looked away and walked towards the waiting room with his head down. I grabbed Falcon’s arm.
“What in the hell was that?” I asked furiously.
“Our son is an alpha, Tasha. If we bow to him now, he will become even more defiant and uncontrollable. The last thing we need is a bear we can’t control.” He closed his eyes. “I don’t even want to think about the consequences of an out-of-control bear.”
I studied his face. “What’s the consequences?” I asked hesitantly.
Timothy sighed. “We would have to hunt him down and eliminate him. You have to make sure that kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.”
I narrowed my eyes on him. “You would kill our son?”
Falcon pulled me into his arms. “I don’t want to have to,” he said softly. “That’s why you have to let me handle him this way.”
I jerked away from him. “Don’t threaten my son, Falcon, or you will suffer my consequences!” I warned.
I stomped off to go watch the movie with the kids. Maddy whimpered in my head and I slowed.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘Look down.’
I looked down before turning back around to face the small group gathered outside of Valerie’s door.
“Ummm, guys?” I pointed at the floor. “I think I might need some help. Elena is coming.”
