Chapter 27 Chapter Twenty-Seven

Chapter 27 Chapter Twenty-Seven
Brad is still breathing a little heavily. "Why did you ask me if we should move then? If you think we need to move I will pack our stuff and we can leave tonight."

I laugh, unable to stop myself. I knew that's what his reaction would be. We have moved so many times that it's actually kind of sad, how easy it's become to start over. At least it was until this time. Now there is Mateo, and I just can't pack up and leave.

"I'm sorry. I don't know why I asked. I guess I just needed to hear your opinion. I don't think we need to move. We are still safe. Okay? Don't worry. I'm sorry I freaked you out." I say, trying to be reassuring.

Brad stares at me for a minute, studying my face. "If you change your mind, tell me okay babe? I want us to stay safe. If you don't feel safe anymore just tell me and I will take us somewhere you can feel safe again."

"I will let you know babe. Thank you for being so thoughtful." I lean over and pull him into a tight hug, holding him close to me.

Brad wraps his arms around me holding me just as tight. "I love you babe." He whispers in my ear and I smile.

"I love you too, more than you know. Can I ask you for a favor?" I ask.

"Of course baby. Ask me anything." He pulls out of the hug and looks at me with a soft smile.

"For the next few days can we like take shifts when we sleep? You know just make sure someone is awake at all times. I think I'm just being paranoid because I am exhausted, but it would just make me feel better to know we are watching out for each other." I ramble, something I don't do often, but I feel crazy for even asking something like this.

Which I guess being in our situation it's okay to be a little crazy. That doesn't mean I want Brad to know just how crazy I am becoming. Brad chuckles, rubbing my arms up and down in a soothing manner.

"Of course we can baby. I want you to feel comfortable again and I need you to get some sleep. If watching over you while you sleep will help then that's what we will do." He says.

"Thank you and thank you for not thinking I'm crazy."

Brad laughs. "I think we passed crazy a long, long time ago. We would probably both qualify as patients in an insane asylum."

I burst out laughing. "Yeah, you are probably right."

"Do you want to get some more sleep baby?"

I shake my head no. "I'm okay. Thank you though. Do you want some sleep?"

Brad laughs. "No baby. I'm good."

"So, what should we do?" I ask, laughing a little.

Brad shrugs. " I don't know. We can do whatever you want."

Wow. We are really bad at this. Neither of us want to sleep, neither of us know what to do. I would say we can go out and do something, but I don't think now is a good time for that. At least not until I know for sure nothing weird is going on around here with or without us at home.

"I guess we can watch some movies. Maybe we can find something new to watch."

Brad grabs the remote off the coffee table. "Maybe baby. Let's see what's on."

We scroll and scroll and scroll until we have already scrolled through everything. Nothing really looks interesting. So we try a different streaming site. Still nothing interesting. Brad finally just clicks on something. It might be good, might suck. Who knows, but we are tired of looking.

We spend the rest of the day watching movies, none of them were very good but I wasn't really paying a whole lot of attention anyway. My mind just kept wandering.

Trying to decide where we would go next if we did decide to move. What names would we use? Would I say goodbye to Mateo or just leave? Of course I wouldn't say goodbye to Mateo. Why the hell would I? He would probably forget about me in a week, if he hasn't already.

This is ridiculous. Why does he keep crossing my mind? I have never been this obsessed with a guy before. Even before I was married it didn't matter if I liked someone or not, I could forget them in a minute if I wanted to.

Around eleven o clock that night Brad yawns and looks over at me. "Are you tired baby?" He asks.

I smile sweetly at him. "No I'm okay. You should get some rest though. I will stay awake while you sleep."

Brad nods his head smiling sleepily at me. "Okay baby. Will you come in the bedroom with me? At least until I fall asleep?"

I give him a kiss. Just a soft peck on the lips. "Of course. Let me double check the door and I'll be right in there."

"Okay baby." Brad gets up and walks into the bedroom.

I stay there on the couch for a minute. Just looking around the apartment. It's weird to think this has become my home. A safe place for the two of us. I don't want to leave and start over again.

I double check to make sure the door is locked and make my way into the bedroom. Brad is already curled up on his side, it won't take long for him to fall asleep. I climb in bed next to him, laying close enough to feel him breathing.I stay in here with him. Making sure he is asleep before turning the TV off.

The next two weeks pass by almost exactly the same. We don't leave the apartment for any reason at all, taking turns sleeping. I think we have watched every movie there is and I'm honestly starting to go kind of stir crazy.

"Do you want to do something tonight? Brad asks on Friday afternoon around two, while we are snuggled up once again watching movies on the couch.

"Do something like what?" I ask, genuinely surprised by the suddenness of the question. Usually I am the one trying to get him to go out and do things. He never just volunteers.

Brad shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe we can go dancing or something. I mean I'm pretty sure it's safe for us to leave the house and I will be there with you, if you are worried about being alone."

I smile at him. "I think that sounds like a good idea. It would be nice to get out of the house for a while."

Brad smiles. "Yeah, it would be really nice. Maybe we can go get some dinner first."

My face lights up with excitement. That sounds like a great idea. "Let's get dressed up and go somewhere fancy for dinner, then we can go dancing."

Brad laughs. "Whatever you want baby. No offense but I'm tired of being stuck in this house with you."

I slap his arm playfully and frown. "Well screw you too."
