Chapter 20 Chapter Twenty
Chapter 20 Chapter Twenty
I somehow manage to fall back asleep, getting just a couple more hours of sleep before waking up again. This time when I wake up, Brad is already awake. He smiles at me. "It's okay baby, I'm here."
"Did you get anymore sleep?" I ask, rubbing my eyes with the back of my hand.
Brad shakes his head. "No, I was watching you sleep baby. I worry about you when you have bad dreams. I want to be awake in case you need me."
"Thank you. You didn't have to do that." I whisper looking up at him.
Brad places a soft kiss on my lips. "I wanted to."
"Should we get up and make some breakfast?" I ask.
Brad nods his head. "Sounds good. I am starving." He puts extra emphasis on the word starving and I roll my eyes, I can't help but laugh though.
"Me too." I say laughing as I slide out of bed.
Brad stretches across the bed and smacks my ass, making me jump. "What was that for?" I ask laughing.
Brad shrugs. "Just looked to good not too." He gets out of bed and we both laugh as we make our way into the kitchen.
"How about I make the pancakes and coffee? You can make the eggs and bacon." I say giving him my most sweet smile.
Brad nods his head. "Okay baby. Sounds good to me."
We busy ourselves with our tasks making breakfast. Once everything is done we sit down to eat. "I wonder if there is any shops near here that we can get the car towed to." I say about halfway through breakfast.
"I'm sure there probably is. We can call around and find somewhere."
"Hopefully somewhere fast." I say half jokingly, half serious.
"We can get dressed and find somewhere after breakfast."
I nod my head in agreement and we finish our food. After we clean up the kitchen I get dressed and make my way outside, I don't know much about cars, but maybe I can see something leaking or something now that it's daylight. I don't want to take it to a shop if it's just something stupid.
When we walk outside Jack is under the hood of our car, looking at something with a concerned look. "Hey Jack what are you doing?" I ask when we get closer to him.
Jack pokes his head out from under the hood. "I was just taking a look at the car. I figured since it used to be mine, maybe I could figure out what was wrong with it."
"Did you figure out what's wrong with it?" I ask, hoping if he did it's something simple and easy to fix.
He makes a face, a not very good at all face. "I figured it out alright."
I feel my heart beat speed up. Why does he look so concerned about it if he figured it out? If he knows what it is that means I can get it fixed quicker, right?
"What's wrong with it?" I ask cautiously, not sure if I even want to know judging by the look on his face.
"The coil wire came off." Jack points at something on the car.
A wire came off that doesn't sound bad, so why does he keep making that face. "Is that a bad thing? Is it easy to fix?"
Jack shakes his head back and forth like he's thinking of how he wants to respond. "It's easy to fix, but they don't usually just pop off by themselves. I mean it can happen, but it's more likely that they get chewed in two then just pop off."
Brad and I exchange the same concerned look. So someone messed with the car? Is that what he's saying? Please tell me that is not what he's saying. If he is saying someone messed with the car, there is only one person in the world that I know that would mess with my car. My husband. Did he find us?
"Are you saying someone pulled the wire off?" I ask, terrified to know the answer.
Jack shrugs. "Possibly but I don't know why anyone would want to do that. Did you piss someone off or something?" He asks laughing.
If only he knew how serious this could possibly be, he would not be laughing right now. "No, I don't think so." I say, forcing myself to laugh.
Brad forces a laugh too, but his eyes are filled with panic.
Jack gives me a soft smile. "I can go to the parts store and pick up a new coil wire, I'll have it fixed in no time for you."
"Thank you Jack." I say, sounding a little more worried than I meant to.
Jack puts his hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry about it, the coil might have popped off. It is just an old piece of junk. If someone did mess with it, it was probably one of my ex bitches and their new men coming to mess with me. I have had this car for years, they wouldn't have known I sold it to you and I have pissed off a lot of people in my life."
I laugh, this time it's a genuine laugh. I can see him pissing people off. Hopefully that's all it is. Why would my husband just now show up and only mess with the car? I am just being paranoid. I hope.
"How much do you think the part will be? I can give you some money for it." I ask Jack.
"Don't worry about it sweetheart. I will just add it to your rent." I know he thinks he's helping me out, but I have plenty of money. I don't bother telling him that though.
"Thank you Jack and thanks for working on the car." I give him a quick hug catching him off guard.
I pull away and he smiles. "No problem sweetheart. I will get it fixed up for you and let you know when I'm done."
Jack isn't to bad when he's not being a creepy old pervert. I guess everyone has a good side, sometimes you just have to dig a little deeper to find it.
