Chapter 51 Leave
Chapter 51 Leave
STORM'S P.O.V
Anders slowly turned to me. I have seen a lot of anger. From Marcus. From random people who couldn't stand a scarred omega like me. I have never seen anger like this.
Instead of his eyes flashing or any of the typical signs, his eyes met mine. He was calm. Almost too calm. Like he had expected it.
"Storm."
I closed my eyes against the sudden wave of guilt. Why did it feel like I had failed a test I didn't even know I was writing?
"Why are you doing this? Do you always have to do something like this? It's almost always some sort of blood or pain or darkness or some stupid conspiracy with wolves and evil and...." I swallowed hard, tears filling my eyes. "Can't I just be normal? Can't you just be the man from this morning?"
Anders gave a small sigh and took a step back, his gaze darting to the woman that was still on the floor, her eyes wide. He looked back up to me, then nodded once.
"This is what I am," he said simply, like he was stating the colour of the sky. "If this isn't what you want, we can always stick to the initial terms."
He turned away to an omega. "Get rid of her."
Without another word to me or any other person in the living room, he walked away upstairs. I watched his back and felt something crack inside of me. Why did it feel like this was the first step to me losing him forever?
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them back.
"Are you okay?" I asked the woman as two guards walked in, accompanied by the omega that Anders had asked to get rid of her. "Do you need anything?"
I looked up to the guards as they dragged her up. She was speechless, her brows furrowed as if she was confused by the fact that someone was being kind to her. It only made my heart ache more.
"Let go of her," I said to the guard. "I will treat her injury and..."
"Alpha Anders gave clear orders," the omega said, turning to me. "She is to be taken to the pack prison."
My brows furrowed. "Prison? What did she do?"
I heard a small snicker behind me. Two of the omegas were hurdled together, laughing... at me.
"What's funny?"
They immediately shook their heads and scampered away. The omega stayed while the guards dragged the still quiet woman away. I stood there, the glass of drink still on the floor, the woman's blood staining the floor beneath me.
I started to walk towards the stairs when I heard it. "Honestly, I expected more from Alpha Anders. He had never even looked at women, and suddenly, this ugly omega is his luna, and he is doing everything she wants?"
I stopped in place, my chest heaving.
"I mean, I wouldn't mind if she was half as intelligent as he is. But look how she came in today as if she were some moon goddess and slapped him. For literally saving her. I can't believe someone so dense is actually the luna. I actually felt so bad for Alpha Anders. He looked so done."
The other omega chuckled. "I mean, if he likes omegas, he can always get rid of her and come get me. I wouldn't mind one bit."
"Mind? I would be on top of the world, and it wouldn't even be for the luna position."
They laughed again, and I just stood there, feeling like I had half of a puzzle that would determine the rest of my life.
Before I could stop myself, I walked to the open kitchen. They were still together, laughing, and they immediately froze the minute I walked in.
"What do you mean Anders saved me?" I asked without breaking eye contact.
They both visibly paled and exchanged glances. "We were..."
"Just answer the question. What did you mean by that?"
The shorter one stepped forward. "Well, that woman seduced two guards and came in and headed straight to your room with that glass. The guards are already dismissed and well, Alpha was just... making sure she wasn't there to... I don't know. We were here throughout. That's all we know."
My eyes widened, and tears immediately filled them. Anders was... saving me?
Suddenly, it came back. The way he looked at me. The way he looked like he could have blocked the slap but did not, like he wanted to see exactly what I would do.
He hadn't been angry. He had been disappointed. He had been let down.
I gripped the edge of the door and just stood there, my chest heaving hard as I struggled to fight through the thick waves of guilt that threatened to envelop me.
What have I done?
I turned and ran upstairs like a mad woman, my chest heaving as I went straight to Anders's room. I pushed the door open, relief washing through me when it gave way under my hands.
But Anders was not inside. The bed was made, the shower was quiet, and it's almost like he never even came up here. I walked out and ran to the study instead.
It was dim. I walked in, not even bothering with the lights. Anders was sitting behind the large desk, his elbows resting on the desk, one holding a glass, the other holding a lit cigarette.
He did not look up when I walked in.
I closed the door, cutting off the hallway light, my eyes resting on his silhouette.
"Anders."
He didn't answer. He brought the cigarette to his lips but took it out again without taking a drag.
"This isn't the first time you are coming in here," he said suddenly, his voice low, almost conversational like I hadn't slapped him just now.
I nodded. There was no use denying.
"I am sorry."
He finally looked up. "The voices think I should kill you in here," he said simply. "But I will be asking you to leave."
"Anders."
"Leave."
I swallowed hard, then turned and walked back into the hallway. My eyes closed as I leaned back on the door, tears finally running down my cheeks.
