Chapter 164
Sienna's pov
When I asked Theo why I had to use the last name "Reed," he didn't give me a detailed explanation. He just said, "It rolls off the tongue," and left it at that.
Lucy.
I repeated the name a few times.
"It sounds nice. I like it."
Theo smiled without saying anything more. He then instructed Eleanor to take good care of me before leaving the room with Milo.
Before he left, he placed the pocket watch back on my pillow.
I picked it up and examined it, noticing the pattern on the back. Suddenly, everything seemed to make sense.
I had seen this pattern before at the Moretti Family's place, but I couldn't recall it at the time.
"Sienna , once you're better, I'm heading back home," Eleanor said, sitting by my bed. "The research institute needs me, and if I stay abroad too long, Harrison will get suspicious."
I wasn't surprised. "I've already caused you a lot of trouble. When you get back, please thank Dr. Moretti for me."
I should probably change how I address him, but I'm not used to it yet.
"Stay in touch after you leave. I'm sure you'll do great things."
I took her words as a kind wish.
As for how my life would be abroad, I had no idea. Everything ahead was unknown, both an end and a new beginning.
I spent the next two days in bed. Maybe because I had just woken up, I felt my body healing quickly. The pain in my chest wasn't as bad as when I first woke up.
Milo tried several times to get me to walk around, but Eleanor always stopped him.
On the third day, Milo came to my room again. Eleanor knew why he was there and stood in front of my bed to block him.
"We haven't docked yet. Why are you rushing her to get up? She's still weak. If she gets sicker, will you take responsibility?"
Milo's face was expressionless. "You say this every day. Aren't you tired of it? Because I'm tired of hearing it."
"And you come every day to push Sienna to do the same thing. If you're not tired, I am."
Since I woke up, these two had argued a few times every day.
Their conversation always veered off-topic.
Eleanor was always curious about the half of Milo's face that was covered.
"I don't get it. Everyone on the ship knows who you are. What's the point of wearing a mask? If I wanted to see your real face, I could just ask Dr. Moretti. There's no need for you to hide."
As she spoke, she suddenly lunged forward, trying to take off his mask.
Milo didn't dodge. He grabbed Eleanor's arms so quickly that I couldn't even see it happen.
"Let go! I was just joking. Why take it so seriously?"
Eleanor's arms were twisted behind her back. I thought I heard a bone crack.
I hoped her arms were okay.
"You're too noisy."
Milo, still holding her arms, dragged Eleanor out of the bedroom and unceremoniously pushed her out.
It was more like he threw her out.
"Milo! Can't you speak nicely for once..."
The door slammed shut, and the lock clicked into place. After a moment, Eleanor realized she couldn't open the door and went quiet.
I slowly moved to the edge of the bed, trying to stand up.
Milo immediately came over to support me, his voice indifferent. "See, you can get up."
He held my shoulders, steadying me so I wouldn't wobble as I walked.
"I never said I couldn't get up. Eleanor was worried and insisted I rest. I feel like I'm wasting away lying here."
After walking around the room a few times, I didn't feel any pain in my chest. In fact, I felt a bit stronger.
"She doesn't trust me. After all, I did shoot you."
Three days had passed, and Milo hadn't smiled once.
I sat by the window, enjoying the sea breeze, but after a moment, I felt dizzy.
Milo closed the window for me.
"Why do you wear a mask?"
I was curious too.
"Eleanor has a point. We all know you. Seeing your face wouldn't be hard. Why not take it off?"
What did this have to do with him not returning to the Moretti Family?
"I have my reasons. You don't need to know."
His tone was just like Harrison 's.
I instantly didn't want to talk to him anymore.
"Anyway, you need to get better quickly and get stronger. It's not just talk."
I couldn't shake the feeling that he looked down on me.
It was a deep-seated disdain.
He didn't need to show it; it was in his every move.
"From your tone, it sounds like you have a plan for me?"
I pressed on my chest. The pain was barely noticeable, but I still couldn't do any strenuous activity.
Even the simplest breathing exercises were out of the question.
Getting stronger sounded easy, but I didn't know where to start.
I was just an ordinary woman. Without my family, I was nothing.
I was so weak.
"You already have a basic plan, don't you?"
Milo stood in front of me, looking down. "But let me tell you, weak people don't belong in the Moretti Family, Sienna . Don't think everything will be fine just because you're back with them."
"Without Harrison , plan your future well. Stop making excuses for your weakness!"
He seemed to have a lot of complaints about me, and I couldn't argue with anything he said.
Making excuses for my weakness... he wasn't wrong.
And the way he said "Sienna " showed his attitude.
He didn't want to acknowledge my identity.
I chuckled softly. "I admit I'm weak and won't make excuses. I never thought everything would be fine just because I'm back with the Moretti Family. Before this, I didn't even know my identity. But Mr. Moretti, what gives you the right to lecture me? How much do you know about me?"
Milo's smirk deepened. "All you can do is talk. When real trouble comes, what good is talking? Like now..."
He grabbed my chin. "If I threw you into the sea, what could you do?"
His tone and actions were just like Harrison 's.
"So, what do you want me to do?" I didn't back down. "Just scold me without giving me any solutions? Do you enjoy humiliating people? Does humiliating someone weaker make you feel accomplished?"
Technically, he was my uncle.
I was sure he wouldn't really hurt me or do the horrible things Harrison did.
He seemed to be teaching me, or maybe guiding me.
But his method I couldn't accept it.
"You should learn your lesson." Milo pulled out a gun from his waist. "Otherwise, how could you make the stupid mistake of falling in love with your enemy?"
I heard the click of a bullet being loaded.
"Josephine wasn't as foolish as you."
